I don't mind having a chat feature in Thunderbird, but due to my deeply ingrained hatred towards Google, I want Gtalk completely gone from my Linux PC. It's obsolete anyway. How do I remove it from Chat on Thunderbird? Is it integrated into the Thunderbird deb package, or some sort of plugin or separate package? I don't mind losing the entire chat feature, since I don't use it anyway.

I have had my own domain for a couple of decades. Never had any problems with people receiving emails from me until recently.

Through a number of tests, I discovered my domain was not black listed but instead the SPAM filters on certain providers would put my emails into SPAM until the recipient explicitly went into the mail browser and selected not SPAM for my account. See attached from https://glockapps.com/

One of those providers is Rogers here in Canada which is using Yahoo for email. The users addresses are in @rogers.com. I happen to have a Rogers account as well as my private domain which is my default in Thunderbird.

What I would like to do is have a plug-in that would look at all the email addresses I'm sending to. If a particular domain match is found, Thunderbird would change to use a different outbound account. For example, if I was sending from paul@mydomain.net, and a @Rogers destination was found, TB would change to send from my paul@rogers.com account.

At this moment, I doubt if there is a plug-in to do this. I have never explored writing a TB plug-in so wanted to ask if there are events hook onto when SEND is pressed to do what I want?

Thanks

This question is a followup to Thunderbird 78.2.2 Calendar "TODAY" highlight

That question provides details on how to edit userChrome.css to (differently) highlight "today" and/or the selected day.

Unfortunately, while it works in the month and multiweek Lightning views, it does not work in the week view.

Does someone know which selector must be used to target that view to similarly change the highlight color?

I have tried things like:

    .calendar-week-day-box-current-week[selected="true"] {
       background-color: Gold !important;
    }

But this (and other similar selectors) does not work.

For some reason I can not get the developer tools (inspector) to show me the selector name, so I am flying blind!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this!

Greetings! Since the latest update (78.10.1) I only get one single reminder in the reminder-window per "session". Only after closing TB and starting it again I get the next reminder. So for today I had to restart it 6 times to see them all. Closing the window or setting the reminder to snooze does not make the others appear. I really have to close TB in order to see another reminder.

Interestingly, after I set a coupe of them to snooze for 5 minutes, I could hear the notification sounds multiple times yet the window still displays only a single reminder per session.

Using 32bit TB portable on Win10. Local calendar, reminders for both tasks and events. The problem also happened in safe mode.

I have sucessfully migreated from TB68+Eigmail to TB78.8.1 (64-Bit) running under Xubuntu 18.04.

Except for one counterpart, all keys could be migrated through the transitionla Enigmail plugin.

However, there is one public key, which TB refuses to use for encryption. Of course I don't know the intricacies if this particular key and how it was made. I can export it to a file *.public.asc and this file is 7,1kB big. When I want to write an email to a recipient, the first thing that happens on sending: "The message cannot be sent with end-to-end encryption because there are problems with the keys of the following recipients: ...".

The recipient has to deal with many others and of course has little inclination to distribute new public keys just because of me and fears decrypting problems with his other correspondence partners who continue to use his old key during the transition period which he fears to be quite long. I understand that. Unfortunately, the error message does not give the slightest hint as to what is wrong with the key in question in Thunderbird's sense. In any case, the key is still valid for years to come.

It is not offered for selection in the menu "Security OpenPGP message". However, if I click on one of the two buttons below it, TB knows the key related to the email address in question.

With the second option 'Search for new or updated key' TB also finds the key and I can also say that I have checked it and that the fingerprint is correct. But then I am returned to the "Security OpenPGP message", two dialogue windows before and with no key to select. I am caught in an endless loop of questions that do not help me.

Where can I see what condition this public key violates? Is there a URL where I can enter the text form of the key and it will tell mri why TB cannot cope with exactly this key. If I want to convince my correspondence partner to generate a new key pair, I must at least be able to tell him what is wrong with the one which he has given me before and which we used for quite some time!

BTW: If I have to send an unencrypted mail because I don't have no working public key I have to switch off encryption. But then I switch it off for all subsequent Emails. If I want to re-enable it, I have to send myself or someone else an encrypted email. That's not a very smart design decision in the UI! At least I expect a setting Always encrypt which possibly lets me change my mind for one particular email, but not for all subsequent ones!

Have newest version of TB. But the problem has existed for several months.

When I click on the Task tab, it will only display today's tasks, not any future tasks, even when I click on a future date on the calendar. It always used to display future tasks for the last several versions of TB. On a rare occasion it works, but most of the time it doesn't. No rhyme or reason as to why it doesn't work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

when forwarding an html-formatted msg, i usually prefer to convert to Plain so i have the Send Options set to 'send as plaintext when possible' and, on rare occasions when i want it to go in HTML i use Shift-(click on ForwardButton) to override the plaintext conversion. lately this has resulted in a message that displays as obviously html, as desired, but when i hit Send and then go look in Sent folder to see result, it is in plaintext and recipient reports that it came out Plaintext. further, sometimes pursuant to no observable provocation, when i hit Send i get error message: <Sending of the message failed. Unable to open the temporary file C:\Users\SIDCOW~1\AppData\Local\Temp\nsmail.tmp. Check your 'Temporary Directory' setting.>

however, sometimes, and sometimes not, when i click Send again, the message sends without further backtalk, but again arrives in Plaintext. the SIDCOW reference in the filename presumably refers to a folder i have unwittingly established in Users when i gave myself the fanciful name SidCowznofski at the time i originally set up this computer. i have searched using File Explorer and cannot find a file in Users which contains the text string SIDCOWZNOFSKI1 or SidCowznofski1 in its name. (many subfolders labeled with a version of SidCowznofski, but none having the <1> after S...nofski) maybe i am not using the Search function correctly? i am new to this. oddly, when i right-click my account name at top of (folder pane?) then settings>composition & addressing and check 'compose messages in html format', then try to forward an html message in html format by Shift-clicking Forward, the draft forwarded message immediately displays in Plaintext. it doesn't seem to make any difference whether i have the addressee in my address book set to <prefers to receive messages in html format> or <prefers to receive messages in plaintext format>. i am accustomed to getting the alert when sending html to the latter, which asks me to choose the format for this particular message. even temporarily changing the addressee's setting in the address book, to html, does not seem to ameliorate this problem. i can click the Menu icon at upper right of display, Options>Composition>forward messages as attachment, and then forwarding the html message apparently yields the attached msg in html at the recipient end, but i don't really want to forward ALL my messages as attachments by default, and it's kind of fiddly to go back and forth into the menu>options>composition thing every time i want to just forward the occasional msg in its original html format. is there any way around this? i doubt if it matters but i just noticed when looking up the TB version in my files that it's the 32-bit and i think this machine is 64. not sure how that happened. TIA for taking the time to read this.

I updated to Thunderbird 78.10.0 and inserted my profile file into the appropriate folder. Thunderbird found all of the mailboxes, but I can only manage access to two out of six. Four of them don't have any subfolders, and have no features available to me. When I click on the mailbox name, it will not expand, so it appears to have no contents even though all of the settings seem to have transferred okay. I'd like to get the new version all squared away, but am having trouble figuring it out.

When my Thunderbird (78.10.1 - 64 bit / Windows 10) is in the online mode the CPU usage for the TB process gets very high and TB hangs (not responding). When starting in online mode it connects to email servers and download some emails but very quickly hangs.

I have only few seconds after starting the program to change it to offline mode - then nothing bad happens and all functionalities (e.g. searching emails) work properly (similarly when starting TB in offline mode from the beginning).

I tried restarting Windows, reinstalling Thunderbird (installing on existing version and in other step uninstalling and installing TB again), deleting msf files in profile folder (they where recreated but it didn't help), setting all accounts not to download emails from servers on start (doesn't help, after few seconds cpu goes crazy), running TB in safe mode and running Windows and TB in safe modes (with addons shut down), uninstalling Avast.

If I choose "all," process times out after some thousands (usually about 10,000). If I choose a lower number (say 500), the process sometimes completes, but when I come back into thunderbird, the header download was triggered again.

I have two CalDAV calendars - one for tasks and one for a regular calendar. The task calendar is assigend to no email address and the regular calendar is assigned to the email address, where I'm receiving calendar invites (I did that in calendar settings).

The issue is, that I'm getting error 80004005 when I try to accept or decline a calendar invitation.

When I look at details in the error window, it seems that for some reason Thunderbird tries to accept the invite with my task calendar, which is not possible (the server refuses that). This is happening despite the fact the task calendar is not assigned to be used with my email. Based on my calendar settings, Thunderbird should be accepting the invite with the regular calendar.

I tried removing all calendars and then adding them in various orders, but always with the same result. I tried this on two devices with the same result. After deleting the task calendar, invite accepting works fine again (but I don't find that to be a solution).

I'm running version 78.10.0

Thanks for any help!

I have Thunderbird 78.10.0 and have used Thunderbird for many years. Nothing like this ever has happened. After looking through a bunch of "help" articles and not finding a solution, I am asking for help here. (I did find one article from years ago where the answer given was to right-click in an empty part of the header, whereupon a menu would come up that would permit restoring the default set. I right-clicked all over the place in empty spots in the header, and nothing came up. This must not be applicable to newer Thunderbird versions.)

The "View" drop-down menu has nothing relevant, and I can't find anything in the upper-right three-line menu, including "Options" or "Customize Toolbar..." that offers anything. "Toolbar Layout..." in "Customize Toolbar..." has the buttons displayed, along with other items for toolbars, but they will not "pull" to the email header area and can be dropped only in the area between the Menu Bar and the Mail Toolbar. This is moderately inconvenient, but if the functions worked from that location, it would be tolerable---but they don't: They are greyed out.

There must be a straightforward solution to this if only I could discover it. I would very much appreciate an answer.
