Hi,

since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 Thunderbird (V. 128.1.0 as snap app) changes the path of the local directory each time I restart Thunderbird. My original path to the local directory points to a mounted drive e.g. /media/username/disk... Thunderbird changes it to /run/usr/1000/doc/.... How can I avoid this? The same thing happens also to the path of the signature file.

Thank you for your help! Ubuntu

so I am working through downloading python and chromedriver and dealing with PATH issues re: selenium, pip, etc when I start getting first an email error message:

Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window.

I do not have thunderbird open. i confirm in task manager. don't think anything of it. then firefox starts doing the same thing.

at this point, I am already uninstalling the other software above to try a new, clean install and I am required to restart.

after restart, weird stuff. half my desktop icons and explore files are now faded. neither TB or FF will work. I use chrome, see a bunch of the messages on here to first look at uninstalling and reinstall. Do it. Doesn't work. Next step - run down through appdata, roaming, etc to get to the profiles folders and delete the "profile.lock" file

Yes. This works for FF but WTH!!! I open TB and every email is gone. I go thru the process to zip my profile and import. Nope. Doesn't work. So i unzip the file into a thumbdrive and import using eml method.

TB does not keep my original format, duplicates all folders, and anything older than early 2023 is there but there is no longer a subject, sender, etc

I take a break. Today I am back at it. I cannot access new emails at all. I cannot delete the folders so I make a backup folder, uninstall and reinstall TB and the same thing.

How can I reset TB, import the old emails?

What is the importance if anything of profile.lock?

Any thoughts if working through issues on python, etc caused this?

My Thunderbird upgraded to 128.1.1esr this morning and now I'm unable to delete sub-folders and folders under various email accounts. I've tried unsubscribing to the folder/sub-folder and still unable to delete. The folders also show an email count but the folders are actually empty.

Edited to add: also cannot rename folders. Edited to add: cannot create new folders or subfolders.

I just sent a message in community forum (I think it was) about how some of my messages were loaded as raw html code, tonight. Well, I just found an interesting temporary fix: I send the offending message to "junk", then say it isn't junk, and send it back to my inbox: then it displays as it should. I tried to edit my original message here on Thunderbird with this new "fix", but was unable to. And it still doesn't solve why messages in my inbox load this way to begin with; but I thought it was interesting as a diagnostic feature.

I am still wondering whether to reinstall Thunderbird...

This has nothing to do with virus scans, because I don't have any going 24/7, that I'm aware of. Maybe Windows, though-- I'm never quite sure what it is doing. But no other 3rd party virus scans. Thanks.

I have used Thunderbird as my preferred mail client for many years. Recent upgrade to Kubuntu 24.04 from 22.04.4 seems to have changed storage options. Thunderbird 128.1.0esr(64bit)

I store my mail on my local server so that I can access it from a number of different computers on the same network. If I set the Local Directory to that network folder it is changed to /run/user/1000/doc/5f5f8977/mail.xxxxxx.com and the mail is imported to my local disk in that folder.

However, when I restart the computer I have to set up the network folder again each time.

I have never had this problem before. How do I set the Local Directory permanently to the network server address? Thanks Bob

Is there some way that I can nullify the format changes in the v128.x message list, compared to v115.x, so that my UserChrome.css tweaks that are functioning well in v115.x are not broken? Perhaps there are some new Config flags that might be set? I hate to have to redo a bunch of carefully calibrated work.

Sample of v115.15.0 message list included; I uninstalled v128, so I can't easily show a sample of that.

I have had a few emails that did not show up in the inbox listing, so the message count at the top indicated more messages than were listed. Doing a search showed them, and by moving them from the search results to another folder, and then re-searching and moving them back, caused most of them to appear. But not all - I still have a message count of 20, but only 19 listed, see photo 1. Photo 2 shows the hidden email (from Barry Chandler). So the email is there, it's just not visible!

How do I reverse the change I made? I don't see anything in the settings, I'm guessing it's probably buried in the config editor somewhere though.

Hi Guys, I wonder if you can help . I have had Monzilla Thunderbird App for some while , primarily used for email, and access to my email account with Microsoft and has always been a bit of a pain to say the least. That I fear is because it was never set up properly by myself in the first place.

However, at the moment I can't receive any email from my PC ......."bards@btconnect.com " unless I sign in via a webpage. However, access via my smartphone using supplied Outlook email app, no problem.

So I am hopeful that you guys can help me sort out my PC access once and for all.

The current problem has arisen after receiving a forced donation / subscription page from Mozilla having made my donation I still do not have access to my email and folders.

Brief history: i. Originally PC access to account via Monzilla working fine, (donations made at intervals to Monzilla). ii. Microsoft then changed security systems and servers and with current setup at the time I couldn't get access to email incoming or outgoing ( problem with Imap / PoP3 servers). iii. Fix provided by Monzilla with new account denoted as .... bards@btconnect.com (OWL) whatever OWL stands for I do not know, (annual subscription required). iv. Even with the use of this get around , I still had problems sending mail this I believe was a problem down to default passwords and old server settings. (confliction between default settings and original account settings and use of OWL ? ). v. As mentioned above the current problem has arisen after receiving a forced donation / subscription page from Mozilla having made my donation I still do not have access to my email. problem with server settings again. Don't know what's going on ? and I am thoroughly confused and would appreciate some help getting things back on track. Just in case I have some difficulty accessing this platform and this forum / help page it would be much appreciated if any help could also be sent to the following email addresses bards@btonnect.com and grahambardo@hotmail.co.uk Many thanks

Hello,

I've recently begun using Thunderbird to manage all of my disparate email accounts. Going into each account separately was a bit slower than ideal so I found out about Unified folders. However, I run into an issue with the main Inbox where clicking on it will freeze Thunderbird for up to several minutes. I know there are other posts about this, however, nothing has been able to fix the issues I have so far (also a lot of them are on windows).

Issue: Clicking on "Inbox" in the "Unified Folders" section results in a freezing of the software for period of time (it does eventually unfreeze). The freeze is preceded by a noticeable albeit reasonably short pause as Thunderbird switches to the inbox. After this is when the freeze happens and it shows as not responding in Activity Monitor.

Things that don't cause the issue: - Clicking on any of the account specific inbox folders within the "Unified Folders" menu. - Clicking on an account's inbox.

Current setup: Accounts: - My proton mail account ( - My google mail account (only downloads the last year of mail for offline access) (total mail in the 10s of thousands range)

Things I have tried: - Launching in trouble shooting mode - Launching in trouble shooting mode while disabling plugins and such - Delete global sqlite db - Delete imap msr files - Fully re install and re-setup accounts

Hi, after searching the help topics and consulting the german speaking forum (https://www.thunderbird-mail.de/forum/user-thread-list/94649-kakeck/), re-installing the update to v 128.1.1 for windows 10 (which in the help tab > About Thunderbird permanently seems to try and update again), I don't have a clou how to go on to solve the following problem: The connection with my E-mail provider's addressbook server address always fails, there is no connection to the server address: https://carddav.a1.net. Username and password are correct. If I use https://carddav.a1.net/.well-known/carddav in Firefox, there is an error, too. I have also deinstalled the antivirus software and tried again. I am attaching some sreenshots for illustration.

Can somebody give advise ? Thanks a lot, Karin

About once a week, Thunderbird displays the message "23,000 e-mails deleted from inbox" and starts downloading all the e-mail headers again for the IMAP account. It takes a while to do that, during which Thunderbird's response becomes sluggish. How can I stop it from doing that? It seems to me that once email headers have been downloaded, they should stay downloaded, and there should be no need to download them again.

Hi, I've been using Thunderbird since it's inception in 2003 and so far have been delighted with all the innovations and changes which have occurred since that time. However, I have only recently come across a very unusual ocurrence:

MY PC specs: Device name DESKTOP-EK6DE3O Processor AMD A8-9600 RADEON R7, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G 3.10 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.0 GB usable) Device ID 1BEB8A9E-543E-458C-A36D-83606B41F757 Product ID 00326-00828-84284-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Mozilla Thunderbird version: Version 128.1.1esr Build ID 20240820161839 Distribution ID Update Folder C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a864-e594e8d1fb38\updates\D78BF5DD33499EC2 .

So, my problem is that I have a 50 odd list of email addresses which I send BCC. This list is called "Playlist" (nicknamed "BCC mail out") and in the past I have been able to click on that name, in the BCC field and then send after writing in body of email. Very recently, last week in fact, when I click on that BCC list "Playlist" and then try to send, the following message appears: "BCC Mail out < > is not a valid email address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email". I adopted this method years ago and found it really fast and very convenient, yet now I have to go into address book; highlight all the addresses in "playlist"; change from To to BCC, then add To (and aslo CC)(for different addresses). Sending this way still works, but seems a very round-about way of doing it! What has happened in this version of Thunderbird compared to previous versions? Can it be resolved, please? Any chance of making it 'backwards' compatible? You all do a great job. Regards Dave

Hi,

The uploaded image shows the problem. When I first open Tbird and the Reminder popup opens, all reminders look normal - black text on a white background. As soon as I do anything, in Tbird or another application, the top reminder gets a very dark blue background, making it unreadable.

This has been going on since the release before 128 (124?). I waited until the next release in case it was just 124. Clearly, it isn't. I have opened Tbird in Troubleshoot mode but the issue remains.

The only possibility I can think of is that I have too many emails. That's a very long, unrealistic guess so any others would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, sivarik
