I found the option Tools > ImportExportTools > Import MBOX file as the answer of my inquiry but I have just installed Thunderbird on my computer and I don't have this options in my Tools panel. The attached image is what I see in my Tools panel.

I was connected to O365 with my work email but cannot send any message. IMAP works just fine, all folders synced regularly, but sending not work for some unknown reason.

SMTP setting is as follow: smtp.office365.com port 587 STARTTLS OAuth (this is correct setting, all others shows errors, including outlook.partner.cn & smtp.office365.cn, which is completely normal since I'm not in China).

The first thing that jump out is that my password is not OK, which is not correct. Password is OK. Click on "Retry" or "Enter new password" do nothing, just return the same pop up. If "Cancel", then receiving message with "unknown error 80004005" and all other blablabla about unknown reasons, with instruction to check my SMTP settings.

I've tried all variations available, but nothing works. Sometimes, at some moment after click on Cancel, it said "Message sent" and I can see it in my Sent Items folder, but it's fake because I never receive that test message to my personal Gmail address.

I have already tried all suggestions I could find (deleting passwords, resetting all, restarting, deleting and adding account again, changes in Config editor related to security.tls), but nothing worked for me.

My OS: Win 10 Pro, build 2004, TB version 78.3.2

Any advise is very welcome. Thank you all in advance.

I tried using Thunderbird to check my Office 365 email, with the following settings

IMAP: outlook.office365.com Port: 143 SSL: STARTTLS

SMTP: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 SSL: STARTTLS

Normal Password

All the settings are retried by Thunderbird once I enter the IMAP and SMTP details.

However upon clicking done, there will be a message saying "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

I have verified the username and password is correct, and also IMAP enabled for this account, but keep getting password wrong message.

I'm trying with utter lack of success to configure a Thunderbird install to link to a Gmail account via IMAP.

System Basics: Windows 10 Home, 64bit, fully patched. Antivirus by MalwareBytes 4.30 Premium, fully updated. No fancy firewall, just a regular router.

This account had been installed and working fine until a family member "helpfully" changed the Gmail password, but reauthentication fails. I enter the account details, including password, into the Thunderbird Accounts settings for the account; it pings Google and correctly retrieves all the IMAP settings, and when I click "Done" Thunderbird opens a browser window to Google's two-step authentication with the email address prepopulated. However, when I click the blue "Next" button on that authentication page, rather than advancing to a password screen, the browser simply deletes the email address from the text box and stays on the same screen (see attached image for what I'm talking about).

Things I've tried:

  • Uninstall, reboot, reinstall Thunderbird.
  • Turn off MalwareBytes protection.
  • Uninstall, delete every registry key related to Thunderbird, reboot, reinstall Thunderbird.
  • Clear cache on every browser on the system
  • Change Windows default browser settings to either Chrome (see below) or IE/Edge
  • Install new browser (Chrome wasn't yet on this PC), then change Thunderbird's file handler for https to Chrome (this is MUCH harder than it used to be as T-Bird v. 78.anything doesn't have the old "Preferences" menus)

Incidentally, changing browsers doesn't seem to make a difference in that pop-up browser window, so I suspect Thunderbird is using its own internal browser and not the system browser.

I have, and can send, the support info extract from T-bird to a support technician but am unsure of uploading it here. Nevertheless, I welcome suggestions ... this is driving me nuts!

It seems that Thunderbird follows the Windows 10 settings and installs Dark mode, making the emails/messages unreadable. From what I've read, the only way to correct that is to set Windows in Light mode, which is not always suitable.

It would be nice if Thunderbird had it's own Light/Dark mode feature, allowing the users to select which mode they prefer.

Any thoughts/suggestions on the matter?

This message pops up: Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sent It is a problem occurring only with our company's mail provider. The thing is it work just fine know it seems i can't even get any messages.

This is kind of urgent because i cannot work like this.

Please if you could help with any suggestions. Thanks a lot.

I got a new desktop box and installed Kubuntu on it. On my old box (Mint) I used Thunderbrid and I want to preserve my years of e-mails I stored on mail folders on my PC. On the new box I created my e-mail account making sure that it was not using the default mbox (all e-mail in 1 file) but maildir (each e-mail in its own file) as on the old box. But when I copy the "Local Folders" from my old to my new Mail directory, Thunderbird does list the directories (with subdirs " cur" and "tmp"), but does not appear to recognise the e-mail files.

In Thunderbird under menu there is "Tools" that has a wizard " Import". However when I select to import Mail, I only get a message "No application or file to import data from was found."

So how can I import my old mail files in the new Thunderbird instance?

I keep getting this error message when trying to send emails through one of my Gmail accounts in Thunderbird: "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again." I tried the steps online in the support article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages. All my settings are correct, but my emails will not send all of a sudden. I tried switching the port to 587, but still got the same message.

I'm sending a screenshot of my server settings. My email provider: Gmail ISP: Spectrum Firewall Version: Windows Defender Firewall Antivirus Software: Windows Defender Virus & Threat Protection Operating System & Version: Windows 10 Home, Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362 Thunderbird Version: 68.5.0 (32-bit)

Three days ago, Thunderbird started to give me a "Sending of password for user xxx.xxx@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

I checked that it was accurate in the Saved Passwords panel and it is. I've entered it manually and still get the error message.

When I log onto Google from any browser with this account, it accepts the password. I can then access my gmail account with no trouble. My Firefox password manager shows the same password that is rejected by TB. My Gmail Android app on my smartphone and tablet also accept my logons with the same password. Only Thunderbird doesn't. I've tried deleting my pop.gmail.com login entry and re-creating it under the xxx.xxx@gmail.com account.

I had a Google Security warning 3 days ago, so suspect somebody might have hacked the account, changed the password, but didn't save his new password anywhere, so I have no idea what new password he might have changed it to. I am going to try changing my entire Google password and see if this will allow me to reset the TB password, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have several other gmail accounts on Thunderbird and all of my accounts use the same passwords set for their accounts.google.com under the separate gmail addresses. How do I find out what to do to fix it?

I have been using Thunderbird for several years for my GMail accounts, and have always preferred to download my messages using the POP and SMTP protocols, rather than use the IMAP protocol which leaves them all on the web. Google now inform me that "To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0. What do you need to do? Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google." These changes are due to take effect from May 30th. How can I prepare for them and still use the POP and SMTP protocols after that date? Is OAuth 2.0 appropriate?

Thunderbird was working fine for a number of years, and then out of the blue I get this error message when I try to send e-mail: The Mail Server responded 554 5.7.1 (P4) Message Blocked due to Spam Content in the Message.

Nothing has changed...no additions or changes to my Thunderbird e-mail. These are one on one e-mails I'm trying to send...no group mailings. My carrier is RCN and I can send e-mail from my RCN webmail address. I can receive mail with no trouble. RCN claims it's not their issue. BUT.....I also have a Samsung Galaxy 7 phone with an ANDROID OS. I get a similar error message on my RCN e-mail account on the phone. Two totally separate devices....different OS....but same problem. I have changed nothing on the phone...heck I can hardly figure out how to answer an incoming call let alone mess around with e-mail settings. I have two other e-mail accounts on the same desk top computer and phone that both work fine...one is a Yahoo account, and one is a Verizon account. I'm not a high level tech with these devices...please make suggested remedies as simple as possible. Thanks very much....Bob

I tried different solutions to set thunderbird as default mapi clint like changing registry key and reacreating mapi32.dll but without success. INFO: thunderbird 32 bit (last release), win 10 64bit
