I tried using Thunderbird to check my Office 365 email, with the following settings

IMAP: outlook.office365.com Port: 143 SSL: STARTTLS

SMTP: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 SSL: STARTTLS

Normal Password

All the settings are retried by Thunderbird once I enter the IMAP and SMTP details.

However upon clicking done, there will be a message saying "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

I have verified the username and password is correct, and also IMAP enabled for this account, but keep getting password wrong message.

I was connected to O365 with my work email but cannot send any message. IMAP works just fine, all folders synced regularly, but sending not work for some unknown reason.

SMTP setting is as follow: smtp.office365.com port 587 STARTTLS OAuth (this is correct setting, all others shows errors, including outlook.partner.cn & smtp.office365.cn, which is completely normal since I'm not in China).

The first thing that jump out is that my password is not OK, which is not correct. Password is OK. Click on "Retry" or "Enter new password" do nothing, just return the same pop up. If "Cancel", then receiving message with "unknown error 80004005" and all other blablabla about unknown reasons, with instruction to check my SMTP settings.

I've tried all variations available, but nothing works. Sometimes, at some moment after click on Cancel, it said "Message sent" and I can see it in my Sent Items folder, but it's fake because I never receive that test message to my personal Gmail address.

I have already tried all suggestions I could find (deleting passwords, resetting all, restarting, deleting and adding account again, changes in Config editor related to security.tls), but nothing worked for me.

My OS: Win 10 Pro, build 2004, TB version 78.3.2

Any advise is very welcome. Thank you all in advance.

It seems that Thunderbird follows the Windows 10 settings and installs Dark mode, making the emails/messages unreadable. From what I've read, the only way to correct that is to set Windows in Light mode, which is not always suitable.

It would be nice if Thunderbird had it's own Light/Dark mode feature, allowing the users to select which mode they prefer.

Any thoughts/suggestions on the matter?

This message pops up: Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sent It is a problem occurring only with our company's mail provider. The thing is it work just fine know it seems i can't even get any messages.

This is kind of urgent because i cannot work like this.

Please if you could help with any suggestions. Thanks a lot.

For over a year, I've been successfully using Thunderbird to access 5 different gmail accounts in the form XXX@gmail.com, all with the following settings: Incoming: Server=IMAP.gmail.com, Port=993, User=XXX@gmail.com, Security=SSL/TLS, Authentication=OAuth2 Outgoing: Server=SMTP.gmail.com, Port=465, User=XXX@gmail.com, Security=SSL/TLS, Authentication=OAuth2

Three weels ago, ONE of those accounts—the most critical—began getting an authentication failure error. The gmail account still exists and I can still can read, send, and receive emails through Gmail itself.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird. I've tried removing and reinstalling the account, which it shows being installed with these specs: Incoming: IMAP imap.gmail.com SSL Outgoing: SMTP smpt.gmail.com SSL Username: xxx.gmail.com ... and then the message "Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password"

I tried all the suggested fixes on the forum, including changing Port, Security, and Authentication settings, changing Authentication to normal password—but always get the same login failure message.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

How to copy or import old e-mails?

I got a new desktop box and installed Kubuntu on it. On my old box (Mint) I used Thunderbrid and I want to preserve my years of e-mails I stored on mail folders on my PC. On the new box I created my e-mail account making sure that it was not using the default mbox (all e-mail in 1 file) but maildir (each e-mail in its own file) as on the old box. But when I copy the "Local Folders" from my old to my new Mail directory, Thunderbird does list the directories (with subdirs " cur" and "tmp"), but does not appear to recognise the e-mail files.

In Thunderbird under menu there is "Tools" that has a wizard " Import". However when I select to import Mail, I only get a message "No application or file to import data from was found."

So how can I import my old mail files in the new Thunderbird instance?

I just started using two apps to connect with vulnerable people in my local area with a view to supporting them during this pandemic.

One is WhatsApp downloaded to PC and phoene and the other is NextDoor used through the Firefox browser. I have used my gmail email address for contacts on NextDoor and when I checked if I had received any messages this message pop: imap.gmail/Thunderbird Authentication failure. I had to change or reset my email address password a couple of times in a short period so that could explain the security problem. I can access the email direct but I prefer to use Thunderbird because I can easier manage my five email accounts in one place.

Can anyone gelp me return to using T/bird & Gmail as I did previously and still be able to use WhatsApp and NextDoor.

Three days ago, Thunderbird started to give me a "Sending of password for user xxx.xxx@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

I checked that it was accurate in the Saved Passwords panel and it is. I've entered it manually and still get the error message.

When I log onto Google from any browser with this account, it accepts the password. I can then access my gmail account with no trouble. My Firefox password manager shows the same password that is rejected by TB. My Gmail Android app on my smartphone and tablet also accept my logons with the same password. Only Thunderbird doesn't. I've tried deleting my pop.gmail.com login entry and re-creating it under the xxx.xxx@gmail.com account.

I had a Google Security warning 3 days ago, so suspect somebody might have hacked the account, changed the password, but didn't save his new password anywhere, so I have no idea what new password he might have changed it to. I am going to try changing my entire Google password and see if this will allow me to reset the TB password, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have several other gmail accounts on Thunderbird and all of my accounts use the same passwords set for their accounts.google.com under the separate gmail addresses. How do I find out what to do to fix it?

Hello guys, I'm a thunderbird fanatic and use it even at work managing 10+ accounts. Up to Thunderbird 68, all was super fine:

The massive profile with 60+ folder was well organized with a handful of incredible add-ons to: - color folders - customize color account background - manage folder sorting The workflow was smooth and very productive: the folder colored to my like, the new email received were visible at a glance in the related folder by simply browsing and detecting the different accent in the folder name, and so on.

I always loved updates and kept the auto update on... until yesterday when my 68 has been migrated automatically to 78 !

No one of the necessary add-ons works anymore! No one of those fantastic the developer is anymore interested in upgrading them (changes are too frequent, and need to invest too much time to upgrade them) The interface is to uniform, I cannot customize colors in the same efficient way.... If I want the same 60+ nested folder sorting, I need to rename all of them... When a folder receives a new email the accent color (sort of bold blue) is nearly same as that of a folder with unread email (bold black)... Oh my god, what a mess !

Since no add-ons are available to re arrange the profile like it was with Thunderbird 68, my only option is to roll-back to 68... and stay there until the necessary add-on will get back to 78 (if any).

Do you know how I can convert back my profile just upgraded to 78 back to 68 ???

Please Please Please, help me ! Pietro

How do I change the IMAP connection timeout?

System Info: Thunderbird Version 68.6.0 (32 bit) running on Windows 10 Pro Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.719). 48GB of RAM 561GB of disk space remaining on system partition where Thunderbird and data files are installed.

I'm trying to move 5000+ email messages from a local folder to an IMAP service. Managing the potential risk of losing messages, I decided I would copy the emails from the local folder to a new folder on the destination IMAP email account.

At first, I tried Apple iCloud. Based on my second experience (see below), it appears Apple iCloud server side has a very very short timeout value. I get to around 10-11 messages and then Thunderbird reports back that the connection timed out.

Next, I tried Microsoft Outlook Live (or hotmail.com). I always get to around 227 email messages before the copy operation also times out. Researching the issue a little more, I find that timeouts normally occur when copying large messages. Microsoft's IMAP migration tips also indicate that the largest email message they will happily accept is 35Mb. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mailbox-migration/migrating-imap-mailboxes/migrating-imap-mailboxes

So I sort my local folder by size and noticing that Thunderbird is reporting the largest email message I have is 27Mb, I started experimenting by copying a single large email message first. This single email message copy operation timed out.

Once upon a time in a very early iteration of Thunderbird, the IMAP connection timeout was configurable. See https://www.ecenica.com/support/answer/how-to-fix-connection-to-server-timeout-error-in-thunderbird/

After a few minutes, I also notice that the single large email message eventually makes its way to Outlook Live because I can eventually see the email message and even download the large attachments from it. This would suggest that Outlook Live is not timing me out as the server is still taking in the large email message. Instead, Thunderbird is timing me out.

Is there a way for me to get to this setting in the current version of Thunderbird?
