I live in Peoria, Il USA. our service provider is Comcast. I use Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 ver 6.0.4. Just about a month ago, I found I was not able to send emails. I can receive emails easy, but not send on either of the 2 email accounts on my desktop computer. When I tried to send a message I received an error telling me I didn't have permission, so I took pictures of the error messages to the local Comcast office. They told me I needed to change my password.

After changing my passwords, I tried to send an email to my alternate account and received a "sending message" notice. I left it in sending message for over an hour. I closed the sending message. Then checked all of the account settings and preferences, and changed one setting to "normal password", and repeated the test, I receive the same results. Using "Software Manager" I uninstalled "ThunderBird" then re-installed "ThunderBird" via the gui. I tried the same test, and again received the same results.
I again went back to the Comcast office and reported my results, I was told that there were 2 other complaints about the same situation, I asked what their solution was and was told to just log into my Comcast Account online to send emails. I asked them what did Comcast do that caused this problem, I was informed that they are just a sales office, I asked for a phone number for tech support and was told that they don't have a phone number to tech support.
So, it seems I am on my own to fins a solution to the situation they caused, can you help?
If there is any further information you need feel free to ask.

Thank you, Evan James

I Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information

Under 'Application Basics' - Profile Folder - click on 'Open Folder'

This opens a new window showing the contents of your current in use profile name folder.

Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.

Look for the following files and delete them.

   cert8.db - obselete file
   cert9.db - currently used file
   key3.db - obselete file
   key4.db - current used file
   logins.json - current used file
pkcs11.txt (some people report this file missing)
   secmod.db - obselete file
   session.json
   xulstore.json

See next comment before you start Thunderbird as you need to empty cache files.

Start Thunderbird

Add yahoo and make sure all the settings are correct. Make sure Authentication Method is Oauth and user name is full yahoo email address.

Report on results.

ADDITIONAL Whilst Thunderbird is closed - after you have deleted the files mentioned previously.

access : C:/Users/ User Account/Appdata/Local/Thunderbird/Profiles/ Please note this is the Appdata 'Local' location which the computer uses as a cache. Be sure you are in the 'Local' and not the 'Roaming' Delete the contents of the 'Profiles' folder.

then start Thunderbird. keep having to reset my secure key password and tried this in "Roaming" instead of "Local" Help!

I use Mozilla Thunderbird for emails. Somehow I have clicked something and lost the actual email, unless I double click on it and then it appears as though I am replying to said email. I have the columns subject/correspondence/date and that is all. I've tried many ways to get the emails back on screen, but can't see how. I'm not overly computer literate. Many thanks for any help.

I once bought an item from a company by the name of Autumnook Since then everyday I get an email for some bunch of products they want to sell, of no interest to me. There is an Unsubscribe on the bottom of each mail, but it has no effect.

The only email is the 'reply' address support@autumnook.com I have emailed many times - you get an automated 'we will respond within 2 working days' .. and nothing else. On their website the only contact listed is the same support@autumnook.com

Any suggestions how I can get these mails stopped  ?

This is something I've never encountered, since I hardly ever go to the Sent folder except to look at something I sent. But this was a different task.

I've had a series of emails from a friend, that my wife wanted me to forward to her so she could see them. So I went to the Sent folder, and forwarded 3 of those emails to my wife. Then she told me she only got one so I went back to Sent and thought they would be at the top of the list, 1-2-3, but that was not what I found. Since those emails were each part of several different threads in the back and forth with my friend, it took me a long time to figure out which email to pick off and resend. I made sure I was sorting them by date, descending, but was bewildered that the listing had the ones I wanted embedded (see screenshot, with the ones I just sent highlighted in red)

So my question is, is there a setting where I could tell Tbird to sort strictly by send date?

I manage currently six mail accounts with TB. The sixth account created today is at the end of the list, oddly after the "Local Folders". When I try to create a Folder in this new account using the option in drop down menu it accepts the name but the folder is not created. on all other accounts there is no problem in creating a folder this way. Other than this problem the new account works as intended. I have restarted several times TB but this did not help. Thank you for the attention.

Hi there. First, thanks for your time. Next, I'm a newbie with Thunderbird (and a bit of an IT weakling). Have gradually been setting it up to work for me. I have multiple email addresses, folders and subfolders. About half my emails have attachments. I've managed to backup the Profile info by exporting a copy of the folder onto an external HDD. Now I want to backup all my emails including folders, subfolders and attachments. I have managed to download ImportExportToolsNG as an add-on. 1. I've read somewhere that ImportExport doesn't export attachments? 2. Which is the best ImportExport option for me to use? I don't understand the difference between the different options in the menu (eg, Export All Folders, vs Export All Folders with Structure, vs Backup). I've read somewhere that some of these options don't link attachments to their emails or don't copy the full email message - as you can see I don't really understand what I'm reading. I would like to be able to double check what I have in the exported copied folders. And I want to be able to restore all emails, their attachments and settings if my Thunderbird crashes. 3. I do use Acronis True Image 2016 to backup my PC onto external HDD but I don't know how to check and see if my emails are on there. If they are, will I be able to restore my Thunderbird emails and settings if for some reason they crash? TIA.

Hello,

I am using the latest stable release of Thunderbird client on Windows 11 and just today it's been asking me multiple times for a password to my Outlook account. I have kept adding a one time app password through the official Microsoft website under account management but it's been asking a few times that it needs a password.

Do you know if there's been any outages to the Microsoft servers or what this issue could be related to? Is there a way I can send any logs directly to you that might help find the issue?

Thank you for your time.

I just completed changing the storage location for Thunderbird email messages, from AppData/Roaming to a new Thunderbird folder under Documents. This was to ensure that my computer quick-backup utility would save emails. I followed Mozilla instructions and all went well, everything seems still to work just fine, except that one POP email account shows nothing in the appropriate Thunderbird Inbox now. Sent messages show up, and new incoming messages to that account go into the Inbox and show, but all the old ones from before the location change just don't populate the Inbox listing area. The Inbox file at the new location has messages in it, I can see and read them with Notepad, but there's no corresponding Inbox message list for that one account. What could have gone wrong, and is it possible to somehow 'activate' the old messages so they show, or move them again from the original AppData/Roaming location to the new one? Thanks!

Lately I'm having trouble with my connection with outlook. I use a free outlook email address. Sometimes (not always) when starting Thunderbird, I get the "user authenticated but not connected" warning. After a while it's working again.

I have tried several settings but can't figure out what solves this issue.

I'm using port 993 / SSL/TLS and authentication method is set to normal password.

Most of the times this works.

When I switch to OAuth2, I get the Microsoft screen to login to my work / school account which I do not have.

I've search the web to find a solution for this but I can't find it. Hopefully someone can help me out because it drives me "nuts" ;)
