Hi there, I wonder if you can help.

I have tried everything that has been advised on the community chat, but still can't receive any emails to Thunderbird. It was working and then it suddenly stopped... I can send on Thunderbird. I can send and receive on my phone and on the web.

I have done the following:

  • Made sure "allow less secure... is on" CHECK
  • Updated Thunderbird CHECK
  • Got rid of large emails CHECK
  • Changed from pop to Imac (?) COULDN'T DO
  • Changed to OAuth2 password DIDN'T WORK
  • Restarted CHECK

It's been a couple of days now and still not working, any advise would be greatly appreciated!

After realizing that I was not receiving emails that had been sent to me (over a period of 24 hours), my ISP tech support and I traced the likely cause to what may be a bug in the Thunderbird 78.2.2 update, that had installed itself on my computer exactly 24 hours earlier: the update had somehow rendered the ISP's email account Security Settings invalid, which prevented reception of incoming emails. The tech support had been receiving similar email malfunction reports from other users since September 10, 2020 -- which was when this update was first released -- and we tested the hypothesis by changing my Security Settings for this ISP email account to "none", which fixed the problem.

A security setting of "none" isn't ideal, so I would like to bring this issue forward to the Tbird tech team, to see if they are aware of it.

Sending & Receiving may work fine numerous time but then this error pops up when checking for messages.

I've reentered the password (which is always correct anyway) each time & then it works, until the next time!

There's no pattern to this error, & nothing is changing in the meantime.

It's very annoying!! So why does it happen?

I have been attempting to copy my Thunderbird profile from my old computer to my new computer. I have copied my old profile from Documents on my new computer and then followed the instructions to paste this profile 3 levels up on my new computers Thunderbird profile. Each time I open the e mail program it shows current mail I have received but there are no e mail folders from my old computer. How do I access my old profile and or make my old profile the default profile.

They had me remove the gmail account and create a new one.

But I can't.

Thunderbird keeps giving me the error message who's image I've added to this query.

I'd like to create a filter that runs at regular intervals to move all messages in one folder (not the Inbox) to another folder -- but don't see a way to do it.

The interval can be most anything, such as once a day, every few minutes, or when getting new messages. The key requirements are that it run regularly and act on a specific folder only.

I found some add-ons that might work, but didn't find one that works with Thunderbird 68.12.0.

A. A few days ago, a Glary Utilities scan told me that there was an update/upgrade for Thunderbird. It had been two years (v52.7.0, I think) since I last upgraded, so I decided to go ahead. The new version downloaded and installed just fine, but it opened into what I would call a blank slate. None of my email address books were there and all my file folders with saved emails were not there. There did not appear to be a way to import this info.

B. Since the earlier version was still there and working fine, I decided to wait until I had more time to figure out how to work this out. Today when I started my computer and opened what I thought was the older version of Thunderbird, the new version came up. All of the Thunderbird icons now only open the new version.

C. There are two Thunderbird icons on the start menu, which had been opening the two different versions of Thunderbird; now, they both open the new version. I connected my main email account so I could check my emails, so that works, but only emails from late August on were downloaded (I assume the provider server only goes back that far, but that is not an issue).

D. It seems that, without my explicit permission, the new Thunderbird version is unilaterally taking over the email client functions that the older version provided. Had I known this would happen, I would not have downloaded the new version. I am reluctant to uninstall the new version for fear of losing everything.

E. Anyway, I would like to recover the email file folders and their contents. It doesn't matter to me if they are imported into the new version (preferable) or recovered via reinstating the old version. It would be nice to get back the old address books with the associated mail lists, but it would not be a big job to reconstruct them as they are stored in Excel files. I have not been able to find anything pertaining to my problem.

F. I tried calling one of the help numbers I found online (800-308-1474), but the rep said, in a nice way, this was how the new version works and live with it. However, he did indicate he could refer me to a third-party provider who might be able to recover my files for a fee ($129). I was reluctant to do that. It just seems that there should be a way to import these files from the older version, but I can't find it.

Using Thunderbird 68.11.0 (64-bit) on CentOS linux 7.8

I'm trying to send a file of about 460MB via the thunderbird filelink utility. Although smaller (about 70MB) files work well, this one does not upload. I already tried to remove space from the file name, change the extension to .jpg (in case there is a policy against .avi's of which I am not aware: the file in question is a record of a flight simulation run) but to no avail.

I also check that there was ample disk space to make a temporary copy of the file if it was so required (file ~460MB ; disc space ~4.5GB).

Although I not often transfer such large files, it does happen and therefore it would be nice to be able to do it directly without having to open a web browser.

I have already contacted WeTransfer support but they have no support for Thunderbird.

I cannot find the add-on settings either... Not under general settings, not in the add-on manager, not in "customize", not in tools...

After following the accepted answer in this question I tried changing the boolean values of the two variables:

  1. network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http [From False to True]
  2. network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https [From False to True]

And then when trying to open a link I selected the browser that I wished and the link opened normally.

But afterwards no link was opening in no browser. I tried resetting those variables to the initial state but still nothing happens.

How can I reset the editor or what should I do to fix this problem?
