I'm using profiles, multiple profiles after getting new PCs . Each profile has multiple accounts ( same accounts) but different date ranges. I'm trying to organize emails by which pc was most in use during a particular timeframe. so I have 3 profiles and they seem to be working OK. But I only started the old ones up and saw that it was working but getting new mail - I don't want new mail in the old accounts/profiles. They're just there to give some historical help if I need old info. My new profile is getting new mail OK.

can I block the old thunderbird profiles from getting new mail? How? I would like to block them without having to "use"/open them so the mail collection process doesn't clutter them up with new mail.

I am helping a friend who uses T-Bird on a Windows 7 PC that had a hard drive crash. Installed T-Bird 24 on another PC that works on Vista and it initially worked fine. In attempting to drop files from old to new, after a reboot, I try to open T-Bird and get a message that t could not open as another version of T-bird was in use (nothing visible). After several attempts to delete and re-install, here I am.

I bought a new desktop PC with Win 8.1 and installed Firefox and Thunderbird. Then, I tried to configure the e-mail account manually (as IMAP) following the instructions provided here: https://support-en.upc-cablecom.ch/app/answers/detail/a_id/22 , but failed to configure the smtp outgoing mail server correctly (I could receive mail, but not send them). Subsequently, I deleted that account. Then, I launched the automatic mail setting tool provided by UPC Cablecom under the link http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/dam/www-upc-cablecom-ch/Support/executables/upc-cablecom-email-assistent.exe and it did successfully setup the account, however as a POP3 account. As I was not happy with it, I deleted the POP3 incoming mail server (and lost the received e-mails, of course...) and retried a manual setup. Doing so, I obtained an incoming IMAP mail account plus two outgoing SMTP server (comparing them, I also understood the configuration mistake I had done the first time). I then deleted the manual SMTP server as the automatically setup server worked properly. In this context, both receiving and sending e-mail worked OK. However, the next time I started the computer, the e-mail account disappeared and Thunderbird asked me to setup a new account again. I successfully set it up manually one more time, but the same problem surfaced again at the next boot, the e-mail account was gone...!

Thanks in advance for your help! Maxonce

I download Thunderbird from the Mozilla site, version 24 for mac os x but when I tried to install it I got the error message - Cannot use this version on this copy of OS X.

I managed to download and install Thunderbird 3.1 and have set it up but I get a message about that version becoming obsolete soon.

I need an alternative to Mac Mail as it is hanging when trying to send e-mails. Thunderbird appears to have cured this but if I cannot update it I wll be no better off.

Also I would like Thunderbird to import settings, messages, etc from mac mail, would this happen with a newer version?

Thanks

Just trying to log in to Thunderbird. It does'nt recognize my login or password. I try to change them, Thunderbird says it sent new one to my email. Go to my email and its not there. What i am eventually trying to do is to find a tutorial of how to use my newly installed pgp program. I need something simple that I c an write down and follow so I don't make a mistake. I am NOT "computer literate" in any way. EVERYTHING is a struggle for me so having a "cheat sheet" for pgp protocol is the only way I can think of to commit it to memory. Sorry for the long winded message, don't know any other way to get my point accross. Thanks, Charles

Hello, I migrated from Outlook Express to Thunderbird on XP, then moved the files to Windows 8. I had one "group" in my OE address book. Nothing after that group name (which began with an H) was migrated into the new address book. In other words, I lost everything after H.

I also have these contacts on Gmail. Is there an easy way to retrieve them from OE (I guess I could delete the group and start over, but that's a long process and I fear losing the mail I've already sent on TB), or is there an easy way to get them from gmail?

Thanks.

What is the easiest method to import the outlook 2003 contacts (adresbook) to Thunderbird which is installed on Ubuntu. (Windows XP + Ubuntu 14.04 installed on same computer)

I'm a bit surprised that even today, this somehow seems to remain kind of a problem. Articles are pointing to complicated procedures, implicating various other programs which should helping in resolving what should be a simple import of the oulook.pst files.

Outlook can export to various type of files. Which format could Thunderbird itself use to import "directly" with some chance of succes ?

I trust that Mozilla is aware of it that it still is a point of concern to users. Focussing on migration is the first priority after installation.

I found a very good Dutch article about installation http://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/thunderbird-installeren-linux.

But about importing from Oulook (2003 or other) , I wasn't able to find some straigthforward guidance for a "easy" and simple import operation, probably because there still isn't one yet.

Thank you.

My wife uses her laptop for business. Her battery died and she is needing to access her email from my machine until her new battery arrives. I've seen the threads about separate profiles but don't like that option. We want two completely separate instances, separate profiles, separate everything. She needs to be able to get to any emails from her machine (once it's back up and running) that were received and sent from her instance of Thunderbird my machine.
