The method I found successful in creating my Thunderbird profile on a new PC was different from the posted method. I hope this method helps others. Both Ubuntu 24.04.4 Mate and Thunderbird 155.0/ On the source PC I copied the .thunderbird folder to a USB drive. On the destination PC I opened the thunderbird folder (not hidden). Copied 123xyz.default and 456pqr.default-esr to this folder. Replaced profiles.ini with profiles.ini from the source PC. Opened Thunderbird and found my familiar experience.

I wish to back-up my Thunderbird profile, but apparently, I am to find an "export tool" under the "tools" menu. Unfortunately the option to 'export' does not appear in the list [but "import" does...!]

I want to copy my windows Thunderbird profile to Linux but my Profile Directory will not open when I press open directory. I downloaded Thunderbird from the Zorin app store, and it may be a flatpak or something – it won’t tell me now because I have already installed it – but I believe that could be a reason for the directory not opening. Is there a non-PC-literate way of finding out and fixing this?

My old Widows 10 computer died. All I have left of it is the last full Acronis 2020 backup. I have installed Thunderbird on my new Windows 11 computer and want to restore my Profile data from the backup. How do I find them? Have been searching for days and can't find anything like in your profiles help article.

If I can't recover the data can you at least send me my current license key?

Hi, Need help with maps that cannot be removed. Thunderbird downloaded my map configuration, after a new Thunderbird installation, from my online account/my internet provider which was OK. After that I removed all maps on my online account but the maps in Thunderbird is still there but out grayed and I cannot delete them?

I uninstalled Thunderbird and also removed Thunderbird associated maps under %AppData% and %LocalAppData% but when I do a new clean installation same maps shows up in Thunderbird again? I waited some days and did a new installation again, but same issue. I have also deleted everything in W11 cash memory.

Attached picture shows the out grayed "NyMapp and subfolders" I cannot delete. How do I get rid of those folders?

Any help is appreciated.

The summary says it all. My T-bird acc't combines both outlook and gmail and now I wish to transfer the data into a new T-Bird (account?) on a new computer. I'm going from an ASUS Zenbook to a HP Omnibook AI.

With a new Thunderbird installation on Windows 10 Pro, I attempted to import my profile data from a Postbox on another machine. The process failed, citing two errors (see attached screen shot), EmptyDatabase Error: "blocklists/addons-bloomfilters" has not been synced yet Uncaught NS_ERROR_FILE_NO_DEVICE_SPACE: Component returned failure code: 0X805200010

The profile being imported is pretty large -- around 20Gb, so I wonder whether I have surpassed some capacity limit. I was doing this via the Import Tool on the Tools menu.

Porting my legacy mail folders is crucial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a new Thunderbird profile, fixing the many problems with the old one, ably assisted on the MozillaZine Tb forum. One matter not really helped, and there is, of course, too much wrong information on-line.

My question: How do I properly copy the filters from the old profile to the new one? I did a search here before posting, but found no answers.

Having tried more than a dozen sets of downloaded instructions, including those from Mozilla Thunderbird and Apple, I have become increasingly frustrated and convinced that Thunderbird doesn't work on a MAC. Can you offer any "official" instructions? Thank you!

Hello, is it possible that a developer has thought of a way to save accounts set up in Thunderbird? And don't even get me started on the profile folder, because from one version to the next it doesn't work (I've just had to pay the price!).

I downloaded Thunderbird to my new machine, followed instructions to copy the Profile Folder from the old machine and pasted to the new machine. I didn't get a message asking whether I wanted to replace the data on the new machine. When I started Thunderbird, I am not seeing all the data I expected - no address book, only 200+ emails, no sent emails. What did I do wrong?

I have followed the instructions for transferring the Thunderbird profile from my old computer to my new computer. However, the updates do not come across. I don’t get all of the folders that I created on the old computer. The email works fine.

I transferred content via a Time machine backup of my old macBookPro (Ventura 13.6) to my new macBookPro (Sequoia 15.6.1). The Thunderbird folder is identical on both computers and contains two profiles: a newer 9389qbc0.defalut-release and an older r13n4n5e.default. The former presumably is active on my old computer and is the one I want to view/use on the new computer. However, the older version appears on my new computer. How do I get Thunderbird on the new computer to recognize and load the newer profile? Thanks much for any assistance!

I just deleted the folder C:\Users\alan\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird and replaced it with a backup I made a few days ago. To my surprise, when I opened Thunderbird, I could see messages that I'd downloaded today. What is going on?

The import function does not work. I exported a Thunderbird profile in its entirety into a zip file that is only 127 megabytes when extracted. When I go to import the Thunderbird profile, I select the ZIP file, import, and it restarts, and nothing happens.

I have tried the method of going to the profile folder, manually copying the files from the extracted profile, and pasting them into the profile folder and overwriting all of the existing files, which will work for a few seconds- it briefly shows all the emails, and then they disappear. The top of the inbox indicates the correct number of emails, but no emails show up in the inbox, and when I restart Thunderbird, everything disappears.

My Thunderbird Desktop Version 140.9.0esr 64 bit. Help please. Installed Mobile T'bird on android mobile. On Desktop (MS Win11) T'Bird followed Settings - Export to Mobile - included all email accounts and Passwords - Export resulting in pop up box requesting Pin number. Don’t know a Pin nor can find a Pin nor find Settings - Accounts - Sign in options to change it.

Hi, Not sure where to begin. Had issues w/mouse and decided to reimage. Copied all files from C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird. Now have no msgfilteres, folders in Local Folders, or an Address Book.

I used info from https://windowsloop.com/backup-restore-thunderbird/. Was this wrong? Where did I mess up?

In order to upgrade to Win 11, unfortunately I must do a clean install.

I very much need to know what I need to do pre disk wipe to preserve my settings, do the right kind of backup of my various accounts, and be able to access my previous settings and account data once I install Tbird on my new system. It is very important for me to be able to access my old account data for legal reasons.
