I report all spam emails that I receive at my Yahoo email addresses. As it stands, I have to manually check for spam on Yahoo, restore it to the inbox, and then do a separate, manual download to get those messages onto Thunderbird to process and email (my preferred way of doing things). Is there a way/setting that allows Thunderbird to go into the Yahoo spam folder and retrieve those messages as well, in one retrieval operation along with the rest of my mail? Thanks- :)

As I compose outgoing messages, I want to change text colors to attract attention or add emphasis.

The format text color and background controls are no longer working as they used to - they're not working at all for me. No matter what I do, text remains black, using either the pallets or the Format->Text color menu command - which leads to the pallets.

In addition, my message background is locked on gray. Using the Format->Page Colors and Background selection reach the Page Colors pallet, then selecting Use Custom Colors, clicking in the Background sub-pallet, then selecting a color, nothing I do will confirm a selection and make it take effect.

Sorry to ask two questions in one message, but they seem related to each other: my colors are locked.

I have not been able to update Thunderbird on my PC in over a year without my display preferences changing and then I cannot correct them to my preferences. The background of some areas are now black and text is white or colored. I hate that. My preferred theme does not display at all. My PC is a Windows 10 Pro (64 bit). I have kept it fully up-to-date and I run the system file checker regularly to keep it working properly. I have tried to reset the preferences after downloading and installing updated Thunderbird versions but that has little effect. I have no extensions enabled. I have tried downloading Thunderbird and installing from that file as well as updating to the newest version from within the program. If anyone can help me, please bear in mind that I am NOT a techie and I'm old (77), so complicated routines are hard for me to follow. I will attach some screenshots that may be helpful to you. Thanks very much for any help! Harley

I have been storing my Thunderbird local folders in Dropbox for several months. Everything was working fine where I could access my local folders from multiple machines, all Windows machines. About a week ago, I am geting an error message when I try to add an emailk to a local folder. I get the message: messagew there, no problem There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again.

I know there is pleany of space both in my Dropbox and on my hard drive. I can create another local folder and store the message there, no problem. I have done all the recommended steps: empty trash, compacting folders, etc.

Has anyone come across this issue and, if so, what is the work around?

Thanks in advance, Keith Johnson

I have two email accounts and have them both together in a unified inbox. However, under the Inbox, each email account is listed, with its messages inside, and Local Folders is listed. I don't want that. I just want to see the Inbox with its subfolders and nothing else.

I understand that this may be a feature of unified view. However, I have another machine with the same setup, that doesn't use Unified Inboxes, but all the mail still falls into the one inbox, and there are no individual inboxes under it. That's what I want. On that machine "All Folders" is checked and disabled.

So I don't know what I did on that machine to get all the mail in a single inbox without the individual inboxes under it, nor what caused the All Folders option to be disabled; but I'd like to replicate it on this other machine.

Thanks!

Hi! I'm exploring going back to using a standalone email client rather than a web based client, and have always had a soft spot for Thunderbird.

I view my email on a portrait oriented monitor, so horizontal real estate can be a real asset - My folder pane on the left side only takes up about 25-33% of the vertical space, and the remaining space would be ideal for me to pop my events/calendar panel into, and then have the rest of the screen for the actual email list and content of emails.

Is it somehow possible to move these panels? Most other applications would let me drag and drop things like that, but I can't seem to do it with Thunderbird. Not "complaining" - just noting.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

I often have to change screen resolution because of multiple monitors and or attaching/detaching laptops to docking stations etc. I use Thunderbird in maximized window state. So each time the resolution changes all columns containing text are resized, sometimes to the point where I cannot see the content anymore. So I constantly end up manually resizing the columns.

Now I am looking for a way to specify a fixed or minimum size for the "date" and "from" column and only have the subject column auto shrink/expand.

Spammers have developed a technique lately whereby they set the date of their messages as 12 December 2040, or somesuch. Thunderbird recognizes the spam content, and moves the message to Trash automatically, but the post-dated spam evades my Delete setting, which instructs TB to automatically delete messages older than 30 days. So the spam messages stay in my Trash forever. Does anyone know a way to tell TB to detect and delete post-dated messages?

Lucky me that effect take place only in folders but not in the main inbox folder...

Does someone else have that problem?

Just reposting rudytheelder's 2021 post as it was not selected as the solution to another User's performance issue. It solved a long-standing problem for me - slow to load, download, change folders - basically all Thunderbird actions took 5-30 seconds to execute. Shout out to rudytheelder!!!

"My Thunderbird was very slow --- this problem has come and gone many times. Lately is was very slow in moving files between directories. Today I did these two things and it works great so far: (1) Go to Tools | Clear Recent History and select Everything. (2) Increase the cache size. Go to Tools | Options | General | Disk Space and Check "Overide automatic cashe mangement" and change the number in "Use up to --- MB of space for the cache" to 1024.
