I've done a fresh install of Thunderbird 102 on macOS 12.4 (Monterey). On this system, Thunderbird does not see any of the contacts stored in the OS Contacts application.
Within Thunderbird settings -> Composition -> Addressing there is no option to use the OS Contacts list.
The OS System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Contacts screen does not list Thunderbird as a program that has ever requested access to the OS Contacts, and there is no way to enable/disable this access from this screen unless the program has actually requested access.

I am a long time (10+ yrs) user of Thunderbird. I recently deployed v104 on Ubuntu and find using the address book at less than half screen width difficult. Once a contact pane has been opened it covers most (all but 2+ entries) of the existing address list (see attached.) For me, this could be improved if a widget to close the contact window, otherwise I have to close and reopen the address book to clear the contact pane/window.
Is there a solution I am missing?
Thanks for your time, Andy

I use Thunderbird v102.5.1 with my gmail addy to manage my mail, contacts and calendar. I've got Thunderbird setup the way I want it and when I imported my mail - it didn't properly import the folders (labels?) and it's a MESS! I want to use Thunderbird to organize my mail and have already spent hours doing so - only to realize gmail on the web is not reflecting the folder creations or sorting that I'm doing in Thunderbird.
Is there any way I can force the webmail to grab the folders/sorting I've done in Thunderbird so they're both the same?
Thank you!

I am using Thunderbird Version 102.5.1 but the problem started when I upgraded to Thunderbird Version 102. I was waiting to see if it would go away but it has not. My machine is a Mac using Big Sur(11.7) and my email is POP. The problem is that Thunderbird DOES NOT retrieve messages from the server which were "undeleted". In other words if you select "undo delete message" and had retrieved only the message header the "undo etc." works but Thunderbird does not then retrieve the message from the server. You have to login directly to the server to view the message. Does anyone know of a Thunderbird solution to this problem?

I just contributed to Thunderbird and and will contribute more if I can change the fonts used in the interface menus and toolbars. I am visually impaired and am unlikely to be able to see Thunderbird's menus at all a year from now. I tried creating a userChrome.css file but it has no effect so there must be something wrong with it. This is what I have:
@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); /*
* * change font for ALL UI elements does not affect content */
font-size: 14pt !important;
font-family: "Arial Nova" !important; font-weight: bold !important; }
/*
* Threads and folder panes
.tree-rows {
font-size: 14px !important;
}
/*
* Menu Bar font
menubar > menu {
font-size: 14pt !important; font-weight: bold !important;
}
font-size: 14pt !important; font-weight: bold !important; }
I got this code from a few examples I found. Any help getting this to work would be appreciated a great deal.

When downloading messages if there is a trojan in an email Bitdefender quarantines my entire inbox and subsequent emails in the same download have no inbox to write to so give an error. There is a work around but it is a pain. I have to do the following.
1 Log in to webmail 2 Delete suspect emails manually 3 Delete the popstate.dat file 4 Rerun the download.
This is a pain and I run the risk of losing older emails. I have switched off antispam in Bitdefender to no avail. Running 64 bit Windows 11 with the latest versions of Thunderbird and Bitdefender.
Hope someone can help.

Hi, I have been receiving constant messages form my e-mail provider saying I am out of space. I figured out that the inbox is located on the e-mail service's server. I need to free up space but want to keep my e-mail, on my local computer. I tried copying from the inbox to a folder in the local folders by selecting e-mails and then right-clicking and selecting copy, then LocalFolders, and then Inbox. After this, there was nothing in the local inbox folder. I tried moving one e-mail by right-clicking and selecting move, then local, then Inbox. The original message disappeared from the InBox, but is not in my local inbox folder. What is happening ?
Also, how can I set Thunderbird to always put my mail onto my local computer, and delete it from the server ?
I am using Thunderbird on a Ubuntu Linux computer.
Thank you for your help.

All of a sudden I can't send emails from Thunderbird. Even though the email is just a bit of text, I get a message saying that the size of the email exceeds the space available on the server. Our internet provider is Frontier, and I can send messages from Frontiermail. I call Frontier tech support, and got told that I didn't have space on my server, which makes no sense. Have any suggestions? I can get emails.

Every other app that I use daily has that option, only thunderbird feels like doing it differently and complicated.

I have just "ugraded" to Tbird 102 and found it has completely wrecked my address book. I am self-employed and Tbird's address book is central to my work. Now it is almost entirely dysfunctional as several of the fields I use daily have been merged (e.g. phone numbers) and others (such as Nicknames or Pager which I used to store key data) have vanished and cannot be displayed in the column diplay of contacts in an address book as was the case in version 91. I am just about in tears over what Mozilla has done to make my business effectively unmanageable. I have used Tbird for a very, very long time with minimal problems but this update, for me, is simply a nightmare. I am really uncertain how to to revert to an earlier version which does not have these horrendous problems and where contact data can be shown in adjustable columns and I can select the fields I want - need - to display to allow me to do my job. Please would some kind soul from the support community direct me to an "idiots guide" to reverting to an earlier version because I am in a bit of a blind panic right now. Thank you.

Dear all,
On my version of Thunderbird I have three accounts. From one of them the e-mails which I send do not appear in the Sent folder. What can I do to get all e-mails which I send from that account to appear there? Thanks for your help.
Regards, George
(A detail: this is the only of my three accounts from which I can send to Gmail accounts. E-mail from other accounts bounces. I realise that this one is a Gmail and not Thundeerbird issue.)
I got hacked and now all of my incoming emails go directly to the trash folder

I have the "Leave messages on the server" set to "Until I delete them". Since this is a POP account - moving a message from my Inbox to a local folder should be considered equivalent to "deleting a message from my Inbox". However TB does not remove the message from the Inbox on the server. This results in accumulation of messages on the server that should not be there. They've been deleted from the client Inbox so they should be deleted from the servers Inbox, as the setting has requested.
Is there a way to correct this behaviour or does there need to be a new setting to make it do the right thing?

My laptop was broken and they wiped all of my apps. I am trying to re-load Thunderbird. When I get to the "Set Up Your Existing Email Address" screen I enter my name, email and password. (The same ATT password I entered to access this forum). It then says that it found my configuration and I click "Done." It then waits about a minute and says "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name, or password." But I am using the same username and password that I checked using my browser to access my email account.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get past this and set up my email? I can't get past this screen to even see the Thunderbird "home page."
Thanks in advance. Ted Steele

I downloaded DASH a few days ago, but I didn't care for it and uninstalled it. The uninstall generated many errors, and; after it, I could not read or write to my terminal. This never happened to me before. When I rebooted, the system would not come up and I had to use the (Ubuntu Inspiron 3847) system emergency reboot.
I have had to reinstall everything for two days and regret using DASH.
I'm asking your help because I still haven't recovered use of thunderbird email. A message I get keeps telling me to enter a password, but none of my old passwords works. Either there is no password, or there is only a secret Admin password. I am using Google for temporary email access.
The login error message I get is: " Login to account jwill1000000@gmail.com failed" "Login to server pop.gmail.com with username jwill1000000@gmail.com failed. Enter new password".
Deleting and reinstalling thunderbird just gives the same error message, no matter how I change the login user name. Can you help me to log in to my email account?
