Address book empty after update to v91 - mab -> sqlite problem?

Hi,

I had to update from an older version of TB to the latest due to the gmail security changes. I had an security/authentication issue that was brilliantly solved by a contributor here.

I have now realised that the update caused another problem ... my address book is empty. I have been doing much searching and reading about this and it seems that the problem is that there was a failure to convert the old .mab address file to the new .sqlite address file that the newer TB version uses. What I could not really find is the definitive answer.

I do not have any .mab.bak files in my profile folder. I have:

  • abook.mab(44KB and filled with addresses)
  • abook.sqlite (256KB and filled with zeros)
  • history.mab (77KB and filled with addresses)
  • history.sqlite (256KB and filled with zeros)

From what I read, the option open to me is to downgrade TB (all the others appear to rely on the .mab.bak files), export the address book, upgrade TB again and then import the exported address book. What I'm hoping is that someone here know a simpler way in which I can get the new TB to convert or "see" the old .mab file.

Many thanks.

My Profile Folder is on D drive and contains my mail accounts (and their storage) and my Local Folders. I think (some time ago) I must have copied it there and changed all the account settings to point to the new location. All works well. But I read an answer to the question: - "Thunderbird local profile relocation resulted in two profiles in use" Very much like my problem. I have a profile on C taking up space AND the (recently discovered) Profile Manager confirms it to be in the default C folder. Can I just use Profile Manager to point to the currently in use, D folder ? Or should I do as was suggested in the similar question/answer, and copy the C folder to a new folder on D, etc... ? Thank you in anticipation. Pete Smith, UK.

Hi Team,

Normally, I use 2 computers and Web version to check my email. However, since this morning, only 1 device is able to receive email. Another computer and Web can sending email only (no new email came in), even inbox is empty on Web version.

I guess it's synchronization issue.

Would you please look into this issue and provide solutions. Thanks so much.

TB just upgraded itself to 102.3.3 and I can no longer send email. I appear to be able to receive it, but if I compose a msg, when I hit the Send button, nothing happens. Then, when I close that message, it asks if I want to save it in Drafts. Sometimes, right after I hit Send, a small window pops open for a fraction of a second. It looks like a progress bar but I can't be sure.

I had sent an email an hour or so prior, and everything was working fine. When I opened TB again to check for mail, a new msg appeared and Firefox opened telling me about the upgrade. When I tried to reply to that msg, that's when the send failed. I tried rebooting and resending (to other addresses), but no luck. For the record, it appears that the rest of TB is OK, in that I still see my old msgs, address book, etc.

Ever since the last update to version 102.3.3 a few days ago, the font in every email is displaying so small that it is unreadable. The font on the folder names, the list of email titles, and when composing an email are all fine - it is only the text in existing emails that is displaying this way, and it is all emails - even those that are years old.

In Settings under General, it shows my default font as Calibri 17. The About section says Thunderbird is up to date. I'm using a Windows 10 PC. Not sure what else you need to know.

Using Macbook Air M1 with Monterey.

I've spent most of the night trying to find a solution to the blank, unresponsive screen since TB updated. No folders, accounts, messages, etc. *(see attached image). I'm not the only one with this problem, but in all the "solved" discussions of this problem, none of the solutions have worked for me.

I've toggled between themes, uninstalled/reinstalled TB, checked all settings and configs, run in troubleshoot mode, cleared the caches... Nothing has worked.

I'm able to create and send new messages from this blank page, and I receive them on my other devices. So, it would seem my configs are fine. Kind of lost at this point. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
