I used to be able to turn off my laptop for weeks at a time and when I turned it back on, it would download only the email messages that came in after it was turned on. Now it downloads every message that came during the time it was off even when I have received, opened, responded, deleted them on my desktop PC. This results in thousands of messages on my laptop that have to be deleted. How can I reset this?

Running TB 91.7.0 on Win10 Home Dell laptop. Between the wife and I, we have several IMAP email accounts on our separate computers. The laptop is mine and it is the one that we take when travelling, so it has ALL of the email accounts setup in Thunderbird. When the accounts were POP, I could configure her accounts to not normally download on the laptop except on demand. Is there a way to setup the IMAP accounts so that only my accounts download based on the timeframe settings on the Server Settings tab and that the wife's accounts would only be downloaded/synced when Get All New Messages is clicked? Or any other way would be fine also, I'm not too picky, just don't need to see her emails when not travelling. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would attach a screenshot but my issue is on another computer. When I right click any email the option to convert to task is missing. I'm on a new install of thunderbird. Is it disabled and is there a way to enable it again? I found the option above the email when you open it in the dropdown menu. But when I click it nothing happens.

I use Thunderbird with 3 different email accounts. It's not rare for me to mistakenly send out emails from the wrong one because I was reading an email in that account before writing it.

Now I'm trying to have Thunderbird automatically select the sender account according to the recipient, i.e. whenever a recipient's address is in a selected domain (*@hello.com), I want Thunderbird to automatically send that message from the associated account. Apple Mail does this, does Thunderbird have a similar function?

I tried to tick a function that sounds like that (screenshot attached), but it doesn't do the trick.

Any help will be appreciated.

The thread pane for ONE sub-folder is all white, including the column headers. All the other folders and sub folders, including the inbox, display correctly in the thread pane, displaying black text on a white background. I can click on each message and the message displays in the preview pane below correctly. The folder pane itself is fine.

I'm running TB 91.7.0 on Windows 10 21H2.

I have tried Safe mode (troubleshooting mode) include resetting headers and controls - same issue. I have attached a screen shot of what that one folder looks like.

Any suggestions on how to get this one sub-folder to display correctly?

Thank you.

Hi all you clever folk out there, My operating system crashed and it's been re-installed. All the data in the User folder was lost but I had copied some to an external drive so I have this folder called qkuldafn.default. Does that contain my old emails and contacts? (I hope so!) and if so how where should I put it to get access to it? I found the folder User/appdata/roaming/Thunderbird/profiles which has two similar named folders (a38mbl8mj.default-release and t2xhdv20.default) so maybe I put it there? But would Thunderbird 'see' it if it's already created a new folder that does the job of the old one? As you can tell I'm not very savvy on this so any help appreciated and the simpler the explanation the better :) Andy

How do I choose a default sort column (e.g., received) AND sort order (e.g., descending), for all folders/their children, for all Gmail IMAP accounts (four), at once, for Thunderbird 91.7.0 and above?

      • Previous solutions on this site no longer work, or only work partially. ***

The chosen solution on this Superuser thread (cited in multiple older threads on this Mozilla support forum), no longer works:

https://superuser.com/questions/13518/change-the-default-sorting-order-in-thunderbird

Changing values through the Config Editor and restarting doesn't change anything.

Right (or secondary) clicking on the column headers and applying settings to various other folders, children, et al, also interesting does not change any values in the Config Editor if you go back later to look out of curiosity.

Moreover, the method of clicking on the column headers does indeed mirror the visible/hidden columns selection, but does not mirror the chosen sort column, or the sort order on that sort column.

I used to use the SortPref addon for this I believe, but I haven't used Thunderbird in a long time. Now it seems like that addon is no longer compatible with TB 91.

Honestly, this shouldn't be this hard to accomplish in TB after literally decades. This should be a basic, global configurable, easily discoverable (not requiring Google searches), and accessible from the menus, not buried in the Config Editor (which doesn't work now anyway), and not relying on an addon. This is core email client functionality, especially for people who have dozens or hundreds of folders across multiple IMAP accounts. Moreover, it should always continue to work after upgrades, the UI and/or API shouldn't change to make it stop working as expected. The user should even be prompted to set it up during the initial IMAP account setup wizard and/or first run of Thunderbird before any IMAP accounts have even been added.

Hi,

When sending Email to Outlook recipient the Outlook recipient sees the images very small, that's due to Outlook waiting for the image width and height... to be sent with the email.

The Pictures details aren't sent with the EMail when using drag and drop, only when the Image is sent as an Attachment or when we move it to force it to send the width/height.

is there anyway to force Thunderbird to send the image width and height every time even if we use drag and drop?

Thanks in advance

Hi and thanks in advance for your help.

I am using two different profiles for 2 different users.

The first user has account A and the other user has account A and also a personal account B (I will simplify because there are more than 2 accounts for each profile).

The problem is that the shared account A has and important size and this disk space is being duplicated with the same content.

It would be great if both profiles could share the same INBOX folder or even the full email account but keeping their separate profiles.

If my memory serves me right, time ago you could right click in the folder and change the path/location, but this is not possible now.

Any idea ?

Thanks for your help

I work for an MSP in vulnerabilities. I have an issue with a client computer where Thunderbird 52.8.0 is installed and version 91.7.0 is also installed on the same machine. I need to delete the older version without affecting the newer version. I also need to do this silently in the command prompt. I know that I can use "%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Thunderbird\uninstall\helper.exe" /S but that will uninstall everything. Is there a way to specifically uninstall version 52.8.0 only with the command prompt?

I get yellow messages saying "Thunderbird thinks this message is junk mail," then we have two options: "Not Junk" and "Learn More" which tells us to train Thunderbird to recognize junk. What? It doesn't offer the choice to say "Yes, it is junk, so please delete (and learn)" or just plain "Junk" but only the choice to disagree with your message and say "Nope it is not junk." Therefore, our problem is further complicated. And finding a way to tell you your effort to deal with junk mail is only more frustrated by your chosen efforts. You could fix it by simply providing a button for "Yes, It is junk," or simply "Junk," but you need to do something because now I am receiving more junk mail than ever because there is no easy way to get rid of junk.

Please do something. Ignoring an obvious big problem encourages me to return to microsoft mail or gmail or... some other commercial program which I didn't like, which drove me to Thunderbird.
