After decades of using Thunderbird it has amassed contacts. Even for my own contact it saves a contact like "lynn@szetosolutions". incomplete email addresses, or associated with DMV...just for my own email it has saved 7 versions and or affiliations. I want to clean up and remove the excess, inaccurate email addresses that keep auto filling my emails and reduce the constant annoyance. Can someone help me? I'm so grateful for any help.

System is win 11, latest TB, personal gmail account of long standing. I want to use TB as my email program for gmail. After installing TB, it asks for my gmail login and password, and recognizes the account, defaulting to IMAP, Oauth2, etc. When I press "done", I get a google screen saying that TB want authorization to access gmail files. But when I press "allow", the TB page shows an error message under the password field reading "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password." I understand it is looking for my gmail username and password, and these are correct. I have tried this many times, including with variations: removing and reinstalling TB, creating a pw just for TB in gmail (subsequently deleted). I have read all of the gmail installation help notes at Mozilla. Most relate to a 2022 change in gmail re Oauth2. Nothing helps. Any advice?

up until a few months ago, Thunderbird opened jpg/jpeg images inline, that is in the message window. Instead I get an empty white box where the image SHOULD have displayed. The only option now available appears to open the attached image with PHOTOS which takes longer as Thunderbird has to call photos to load the image. Also it takes longer to actually display the image. So what happened?

My current work-around to this issue is to drag/drop the attached image to my photo editor which loads rather quickly. Much faster than photos.

I've got a long-standing email account that will be closing in a month and I need to keep all the emails on it... I'm not technical! Are they kept on my laptop, or just on the server? If the latter how does someone who's not technical go about getting them local, and also able to access them again through Thunderbird ideally? I've tried to look at old posts but they are quite technical generally so I'm looking for a bit of hand-holding/easy instructions :)

I cannot send emails. I've been using Thinderbird for probably 20 years, this is a new one. I'm just using the Reply function. I checked the SMTP settings and they are still the same.

Mozilla has done it again. They seem to be on a mission to ruin their programs. I have already switched away from FireFox, and now I will have to switch away from Thunderbird if I can't downgrade.

I foolishly upgraded to 115.5.1. The new interface is more cluttered and takes up about 30% more space than the old interface. The bar at the top is wider, the bar between the email list and the email contents is wider. The side bar on the left which lists the folders is wider. And all this is happening even though I have "density" set to maximum. Furthermore, my favorite add-on is suddenly no longer working and I can't find a way to restart it.

What I need is this:

  • Please tell me which version prior to 115.5.1 is the most stable and doesn't have any of the interface changes that 115.5.1 has. (How do I find out the number of the last version I was using?)
  • Please give me detailed instructions on how to download such version and downgrade. I am NOT a computer person and I need clear instructions.

Thank you.

Hello, I'm having various problems with Win 11 and, before anyone says it, I can't run setup from the iso as a repair (this is one of the problem). So am finally thinking of biting the bullet and doing a clean instal. What I always find to be the biggest bedbug is setting up Thunderbird again, since I have about 6 accounts. Is there an easy way of making a copy of al the account settings to restore? Alternatively, do I simply copy back the profile(s)?

Hello!

I added all my office emails to my home computer. At home they all work perfectly to receive but not to send. The server configurations are the same as at my office and they work perfectly there.

The name of the outgoing server is smtp.oedim.com and I have already used ports 25, 587, 465 and 2525 to test. The message I receive is the following:

"Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Unable to relay to egon@oedim.com. Please check the message recipient "egon@oedim.com" and try again."

I used the email I was sending from as the recipient, but this error happens for any existing valid email. I've tried many of them.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Thank you very much, Egon

First thanks for helping. I'm an old man with computer knowledge that ended with a computer science degree in 1984 which I haven't used since. So I have a general idea but it's forty years old... I'm using Thunderbird 115.7.0 (64-bit) on a 2021 Dell Alienware computer with the 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz processor and 64 GB of RAM using Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 OS Build 22621.3007... I also have McAfee LiveSafe Virus Protection software installed: Version 114.212 Release Name 16.0 R114 Affid 20327 Antivirus Build 1.1.2569.0 Content Creation Date 01/25/2024 Content Version 1665.0 Secure VPN Build 9 Version 1.14... Here's the problem... When I try to download my emails the computer goes into super duper slow motion. I also have a wired wifi connection that's the fastest Spectrum offers and almost nothing else shares it so it's usually very fast. I also get Thunderbird error messages (i should have screen shots sorry) about not being able to read something or other or write to some folders and perhaps needing permission. As an aside, I'm the only user of the computer so no permissions are ever needed. Also, this only happens when I first turn on the computer and there are a number of emails to download. Once I've downloaded the bulk email and I later check or it automatically checks, it will download the one or two messages slowly but without errors... Thanks again, I hope someone can help... Take care...

I switched my email host and am trying to change the account settings in Thunderbird. When I change the server name a popup appears and asks me to restart or cancel. It doesn't let me continue to change any of the other server settings. Selecting either option changes the server name back to the original.

So I delete the email account and its smtp server. When I restart they both reappear. When I add a new email account and smtp server, it disappears when I restart.

When I select Help/Troubleshooting Information the deleted accounts are gone from under Mail And News Accounts. When I restart Thunderbird, the deleted accounts and server returns.

I changed the settings for a different email account that is on a different host last summer with no problems. Thanks

I have finally achieved a good font size for email written in plain text. But a good third of my emails are from newsletter subscriptions that are written in html format. In settings/composition, I have changed the setting to HUGE after trying all the other options in the drop-down list.

Nothing works. Couldn't we go back to the old standby - Cntl +? It's simple/stupid, and you don't have to go hunting throughout all the menus (that aren't coordinated in any way)?

I may be missing something, but how can I remove threading completely from Thunderbird or how can I download an older version. I"ve searched for 102.15, but cannot find a way to download it. I really prefer NOT to use another email client. I've always used Thunderbird, but I cannot tolerate this threading thing and I can't seem to disable it.

I've used Tbird for 20 years. I keep my email files & such on a separate partition/drive from where Windows is. I recently had to reinstall Windows 11, which effectively uninstalled Tbird. I reinstalled and tried to get my profiles.ini to point to that previous profile so Tbird could see the 20 years' worth of saved emails as well as the ones from this year. I've tried several times and all failed. I've put the exact name & path of the profile I want in each location of profiles.ini with IsRelative=0, and told Tbird to use the name when it starts, but that has failed repeatedly. I had to uninstall/reinstall Tbird bc I'd managed to FUBAR profiles.ini Help?

The profile I want to use is E:\TbirdMail\ko07yqoy.slt

Current profile.ini: [InstallB8CB05495C44C742] Default=C:\Users\pixda\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird Locked=1

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=0 Path=C:\Users\pixda\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird Default=0

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/pteabyby.default

I would like to keep the size of my email folder from getting too big as the years go by. My plan is to have different folders for different groups of years. I created a new profile and deleted the emails from other years to just keep one group of years in the profile. Then I compacted folders, closed the profile, closed Thunderbird and looked at the size of the profiles in Windows 10. It showed very little difference in the size of the profile with a large number of emails deleted. I tried compacting each folder separately and still the size is not near proportional to the number of emails. Is it possible to compact the profile properly?
