Yesterday got the thunderbird update (did not really liked it by the way). Closed everything off for the day. Started up the pc today and just decided to open thunderbird. And I get this message --Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window. With 2 possibilities. -Close thunderbird- and -Cancel-. So I click Close thunderbird and then the message keeps coming up. -- so I cannot start up thunderbird, have not tried shutting down the pc and restarting.

My Thunderbird email software was automatically upgraded to version 115.3.1 yesterday and since then I am not able to send email. I am receiving emails without any problem and all other aspects of the software seem to be working okay. I use Windows 11 on a Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop. My email is with Yahoo Mail. My antivirus software is Norton and Thunderbird seems to be set up with the correct version and supported within Norton.

When I try to send emails I get the error message: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to the Outbound server (SMTP) smtp.mail.yahoo.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.

I have attached an image of the error message.

I have checked the Outbound SMTP settings and they all look correct and haven't changed since before the upgrade.

Since today I cannot send emails. Keep getting the following message:

I have tried again many times. As far as I know I have not changed any settings. I can send emails from my phone on yahoo

My TB has been running for years with 2 gmails, 1 outlook and 2 aliyun.com emails mbox.

Days ago the TB upgrade to 115 via auto responding to update check.

however, after upgrade, i cannot connect to gmails ( while outlook and aliyun still ok )

it keeps complaining 'authentication failed'

i check the setting is SSL with Oauth2 that should be correct.

i tried add a new gmail account ( 3rd gmail other than the existing 2 ), i click auto configure in the email setup wizard, it also stuck at checking password. i double check the password is correct.

do you have any idea? how i should approach to fix this issue.

I noticed that the upgrade probably triggered a re-indexation of all emails. This is causing high CPU usage AND disk activity. The process is trashing the disk with small IOs. (As seen with procmon. Lots of writes to global-message-db-sqlite and global-message-db-sqlite-journal)

This is a problem for VDI environnement and shared storage. Not everyone has its own 8 cores, 1TB superfast NVMe SSD disk.

There is room for improvement here. I think.

'Cos the folder pane is gigantic and can't be made any smaller, and the message header list is also gigantic and contains the Subject and From lines which are redundant IMO, there's little room for the message pane - thus on my Dell XPS13 I get four lines of message unless I make the text so small it's difficult to read. On my Dell XPS15, there's more screen room so it's useable, but barely. This, not so much. I don't like the vertical arrangement. I see others are whining about this - please tell me you're working on a fix, or I'll have have to revert to an earlier version or maybe Windows Live Mail lol

the nova update was really bad so i installed 102.50 - tried to copy the profile over same as you would before - and got the newer version so wont work error

reisntaleld nova to try to get my accounts back but it ate the passwords and some of the mail files and all the addons .

currently cant get email and it will take days if not weeks to reset all the passwords ( yes i know i should have exportedd them but nova was so bad a hurried ) and some are tokens anyway ...

is there any way to recover the profile so that 102 will be able to use it or even cruddy nova if i have to

I'm using version 102 of Thunderbird with Ubuntu 22.04 and over the last several weeks, almost daily crashes - force quit. I'm doing general things like read, delete or write emails. Also, I put my computer in suspend mode, when not in use and startup results in Thunderbird failing, which I have to get email for each account. I would say that having a force quit when writing an email is the worst, but some is saved in draft. I've used this email client for many years now, I'm not ready to switch. So, what's up?

Since installing Supernova, I find a huge (multiple minute) delay whenever I open a folder to a new tab or window. There was zero delay on the prior version to open a folder, so it appears to be specific to Supernova. I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned it on the forums yet, so it seems it might just be something about my particular setup. Can anyone help me diagnose what I might be doing wrong?

I have now 4 folders corresponding to one profile each and with tenths of GB of inbox and other emails. I suppose Thunderbird created them when I created a new profile by trying to move the local folder to a different place than the default location. I have multiple email accounts. As a result Thunderbird folder is large (90 gb). I suspect those are duplication. I tried the import feature but it gave me an error message as the profile wasn't found. Can I just cut and paste the content of those three folders into the fourth one? Or simply delete them? Thank you for your help.

Since the new version of Thunderbird after nearly every email I make I got a popup that the message I sent cannot be placed in the Sent folder. After several minutes it still hangs and if I then close the popup screen I'm told that the message was sent, but that the copy was placed in Sent of my local folder and not in Sent of my IMAP account. I had that earlier with earlier versions of Thunderbird but then only a few times in a months. With this "new" version it happens every time. It seems that something is broken in this "new"version.

Have a nice day, congratulations on the Thunderbird update, which seems to offer many practical innovations. But I see a major flaw in the fact that you now have to press the Tab key twice from the Inbox folder, for example, to get to the incoming mail. The line "Subject, Involved..." I usually need only once. So I ask to remove this tab stop again. It is a completely unnecessary additional step.

This is a screen shot of the new 115.1 Thunderbird.

You will notice the rows are jammed together to make it illegible. I tried changing the font size, it didn't improve or make worse the jammed together rows.

The settings page has nice rows, the calendar has nice rows.

However the inbox and the list of accounts is gross.

First I will need to downgrade to the previous version without losing my data...then tell me how to adjust the row spacing?

Ever since the newest update, Whenever I have a new email/click on "Get Messages" it shows that I have new emails on the left column, however in order for me to see them, I have to manually click on the first email of the inbox, where it refreshes the old email into the new email, then I have to highlight all of them (Basically run through the list of email with the down key, manually selecting them all) in order for them to update to the new emails.

It's weird and I don't like it. How can I fix this issue?

I've been noticing a rendering issue on my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS machine running the i3wm. The integrated message display will sometimes get into a state where the control buttons and message headers are positioned incorrectly. See the attached screenshot. Standalone messages (i.e. displayed in their own window) are not impacted. The only way to resolve this behavior that I've found is to restart Thunderbird.

I have been having this issue on and off over several major versions of Thunderbird up to 102. I am still monitoring if this issue still exists in 115 but I suspect it will as the engine hasn't changed?

It appears more regularly if I start up Thunderbird for the first time and while it is still downloading emails over IMAP. During the IMAP synchronisation, if I click on an email that is yet to be downloaded, sometimes, Thunderbird will fail to load the email body entirely.

This "empty" email stays in the inbox.

If I load my email provider's webmail interface via a browser, the email shows up fine. If I move this email to another folder and then move it back into the inbox, I force Thunderbird to perform an IMAP sync for the folder content change and the email is then properly shown in Thunderbird.

Outlook and Mailbird on Windows does not have this issue. Nor does iOS Mail, Gmail, FairEmail and TypeApp on Android. There are no VPNs in use. AntiVirus software is active but its also active for Outlook and Mailbird. Extensions for Thunderbird which are active are Identity Chooser, quickFilters and Remove Duplicate Messages.

Repairing and Compacting the folder in the past does nothing to fix the issue. I will monitor for the issue on 115 and try it again but thought I should put this out here in case anyone else has experienced similar issues and worked out what was causing it. It seems to be very specific to the way Thunderbird handles email loading especially under load (while its performing other actions like folder synchronisation).

Hi all,

Just upgraded to Thunderbird 115(from the last Non beta version).

I have multiple email accounts.

When I click to the inbox off one of my gmail accounts it does not display to the last message received. Thunderbird opens to a message about 1/4 up into my inbox.

I have a second gmail account and this behavior does not occur.

I'm sure its a easy fix, I just can't figure it out .
