I just migrated my old Thunderbird 3.1 on an old Mac to Windows 10. Everything is good, but I can't find how to see my old Local Folders. I have years of business projects sorted on these folders. I've copied them to my new Profile (Mail>Local Folders) but I still don't see them. How do I get them to appear on my new Windows version?

bold textWhen I finally installed the most recent Thunderbird update, to 78.7.0, it crashed and I lost everything, including specialized mail folders and settings.

Is it possible to go back to a date just before that crash, to retrieve and reinstall those folders and settings/prefs via Time Machine on my Mac desktop? It's certainly not the easiest way to do this, but I don't know how else to get all of that back.

Whenever I move an e-mail message in Thunderbird from my Inbox (which is IMAP) to a local folder, the Firefox Web browser immediately opens up with the next message from my Inbox loaded in it. I've been using Thunderbird and Firefox for many years, but this problem just started recently. (In case it helps: If I move an e-mail from the Inbox to another IMAP folder, there's no problem. It's only when I move it to a local folder.)

I have set up an account with S/MIME and OpenPGP encryption enabled in Thunderbird (78.7.0). So far so good, but I don't have keys for all my contacts (who has?). How can I disable the default encryption mode, so that I stop getting error messages when sending or saving mails? It's always reporting errors because it can't find encryption certificates. I can disable this by clicking "Security -> Don't Encrypt", but on every new message I have to disable encryption again if I don't have public keys for that person. This is annoying, especially if I have set the default options in the account settings to "not activated by default".

So, how can I prevent Thunderbird from setting this encryption to a default, when I don't want it to?

Well let me begin by saying I 'LOVE MOZILLA AND THUNDERBIRD!'! Next I need help. I am not the brightest star in the computer sky. A kind phrase would be "Computer Challenged Olde Pharte". I want to escape Snoopy g-mail/Google & all the others including Facebook. But I have FOUR gmail addresses 1. church groups & the like; 2. E-pals Jokes & Stories; 3. JUnk Mail - all the stores that want your e-dress; & 4. e-Bay. I have Charter.net as my ISP. So they are where I get my T-bird emails. HOW can I or CAN I??? Get rid of gmail (I use Duck Duck Go for search engine) ??? Bless you all for what you do Being altruistic in this day & age is NOT easy!

More Explanation: My internet is provided by Charter/Spectrum. When I look at Thunderbird, it is on my charter email address. I have 4 gmail email addresses & 1 gmail Facebook address. Is there some way I can get e-mail accounts without having to use gmail, or hotmail, or the other big boyz? I guess I am okay with having to pay my widow's mite to an email provider who does not use all my communications to sell & otherwise profit from them. But how do I do that if it is possible? The settings will only allow me to set it so that messages won't be automatically marked as read, or that they will be after a set amount of seconds. This applies even if I don't fully open the message. Is there a way to have the message be marked as read only if I fully open it, while still having it set so that the preview pane visible?

Sometimes when I respond to an incoming email the sender does not receive my reply. I also tested cc'ing myself (to another Gmail email account I own), and the email was not delivered to that email address either.

However, if I create a BRAND NEW email entirely (from scratch) with EXACTLY the same subject line and body as the original (I copy and paste from the original email to the new one to ensure its exactly the same) and send that to the SAME person who sent it to me, they receive it every time.

I don't understand the following:

(1) Why sometimes when I respond to an email the sender does receive it, while other times not... Appears to be completely random.

(2) Why the brand new email I create with exactly the same subject line and body works every time when responding to the same sender.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Lately I've been repeatedly asked for my SMTP password on the first email I send of the day (until closing TB) from certain accounts of those I have.

There appears to be nowhere where I can just ADD an SMTP account and it's respective password.

The particular accou8nt does not appear in the SMTP list of about ten accounts I have. Thus I can't edit it.

Believe me, for the two accounts in which this has been happening, they were once in that list.

Now the account is there but the smtp usage data is not on a line.

And when I do enter the respective password, TB does not ask me to remember it nor make an addition to the SMTP list.

I have invested a substantial amount of time in creating filters, and I have several email profiles setup in Thunderbird.

  1. Is there a way to run filters created under one profile on multiple profiles?
  2. If there is no way to run one set of filters on multiple profiles, is there a short cut to re-creating those filters for another profile?

I have looked through the help articles (55) but none address this issue. I am currently running Thunderbird 78.4.0 32b. I have been reluctant to upgrade T'bird due to its ruining my email when the jump to v78 was made, but if upgrading to 78.7.1 would cure this issue I am willing to do so.

Hello TBird people,

I honestly can't tell if this is an off-shoot of the recent update(s) but I have had a remarkably bad time with font handling in the program, which I had not before.

This issue is that the display font of a Compose window (as in if I'm replying to a msg or composing a new one) is remarkably small. Too small to comfortably read. I thought I found the solution by adjusting the font size, but then found out from copied replies back to me, and comments from correspondents, that the font that was going out in my emails was gigantic ("old-man fonts"). At one point I looked on my screen at a reply back to me and a compose window layered on top and there were three totally different font sizes displayed, when all I want is ONE readable font. (Image attached)

Making matters worse is the confusing set of options, including one area with sizes in pixel and another in "small, medium", etc.

My current fix for this is that when I write something new, I magnify the window with Crtl-+ (Ctrl-mouse-wheel-up, actually) and have a good size to read, and then it appears to send normally. What a dumb thing to have to do every time. The issue seems to be, simply, that the compose windows *display* smaller than the rest of the program.

Any fixes that don't create other problems? Thanks

I can no longer send emails from one specific account to one specific mailbox after they migrated to a new email host. Details:

  • From one email account, I get an error trying to email name1@domain.co.uk
  • From the same email account, I can send emails to anyothername@domain.co.uk
  • From a different email account (using a different SMPT server), I can email name1@domain.co.uk

Error Message: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.4.6 <name1@domain.co.uk>: Recipient address rejected: An email sent to this address has been rejected with the reason Mailbox does not exist within the last 7 days. Check for typos in the email, or ensure that this subscriber is not a part of your mailing list. To send an email to this address, contact the support team once you are sure the mailbox has been created..

Hello. First of all, I was already searching an found this question (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1285465). It seems to be exactly my problem, but it is archived, so I had to open a new one.

I am using Sieve Filter, this is why some new mails are sorted into direcotries via the server, before I even start Thunderbird.

I read in the other questions, that this has to be an issue regarding the VPN, Anti-Virus Software. This is why I have set up the same account in Apple Mail, with the same Settings. In Apple Mail I don't have this issue. New mails show up in their directory without clicking the directory.

Does anyone have an idea, how to find the problem? For me it seems to be a bug on showing new mail. Maybe the new mails are there, but Thunderbird has a problem in showing them?

It turned out that there is a time problem during the processing of the calendar participants and the synchronization. If an invitation is sent with participants and synchronized immediately with TBsync AddOn Provider for exchange ActiveSync, the participant's response can no longer be processed. A message: The entry is not in the calendar. The status cannot be updated. However, if you wait until the confirmation / rejection mail has been processed after the invitation has been sent, the participant will also appear in the appointment with the correct status. Only when the appointment response of the invited person has been processed in Thunderbird can TBSync and the provider for exchange ativesync be synchronized. Furthermore, the invited participants are not transferred to the server via TBsync (active sync account at Ionos) but only stored in Thunderbird. As a result, the appointment is incompletely transferred to the smartphone. If the invitation is created directly on the Ionos server (WebMailer), all participants are entered correctly. Has there been a problem with appointment invitations under TBSync with the Exchange Provider for activesync since the update to 78.7.1? The calendar entry via Thunderbird is created, but no participants are transmitted to the server.

I have been using Thunderbird client for my company emails. Recently, I have upgraded the client to the latest version 78.7.1 (32-bit) and my company also migrated their mail servers to O365. I stored all my old emails in a local folder (D:\Mails). I gather there should be 3 files with the same name; one with .sbd, 2nd with .msf and 3rd with no extension (may be mbox).

After the above 2 upgrades/migrations, I can't find any of my old emails on the client and the local folder location still points to D:\Mails. When I go to D:\Mails, I don't see any files without the extension (mbox files) but can see .sbd and .msf files.

Please advise if there is a way to get my emails back. Thanks much in advance !!

The reminder window keeps "blinking" to remind an alert (new or not new calendar event). How can I have this window remain in the background excepted when there is a new event ? My problem is that I automatically hide Windows the program bar and when the alarm pops up the bar remain visible until I select the reminder window.

I monitor 4 work email accounts with Thunderbird. I have recently moved my email server to office365. I can receive and view all accounts on Thunderbird platform but I can only send from one, which is the first one I set up after the change of servers. My work emails "bounce" of my website domain name and I am assured that all dns settings are correct. All securtiy, server and encryption settings are identical in every account (apart from the "name"@...). I can send from all accounts within office 365. I have tried a friends hotmail account in thunderbird and it works. I downloaded a free trial of "Mailbird" and it worked for the 365 accounts but I had to give it permission to to get the information from outlook. Do I maybe have to do the same with Thunderbird and if so HOW? I am using windows10 Pro and Thunderbird 78.7.1 (32bit). Any help appreciated, even the so called experts haven't yet been able to work this one out and I reckon it's quite possibly just a silly little setting somewhere or maybe a permission not granted.
