I have installed Thunderbird on Linux on a chromebook. When I try to add my (gmail) email account in the Thunderbird account setup screen, it hangs up trying to authenticate the Google password for the gmail account. I have scrupulously checked and rechecked the password and the server details, and they are all correct. Why won't Thunderbird accept the password for my gmail account? Or is something else not right?

My setup is Windows 11 Home 24H2 on HP ENVY core i7 Thunderbird 64 bit ver 157.0 updated from 156.?? while chasing this issue. Some time after 08:00 EDT 9/28/26 Spectrum/Charter altered sign-in process, their tech support has been able to fix most customers by changing password on individual accounts. This does not seem to work for Thunderbird accounts. Any attempt to download from my roadrunner inbox attempts for over 60 seconds then fails. Attempts to send from my Thunderbird fails with SMTP server error 10060. Attempts to download from my roadrunner inbox fails with same error 10060 from POP server 47.43.26.4 on port 110 and port 995.
