In the menu of mailboxes, I want Local Folders to be first, before the individual mailboxes.

I can move it there in Account Settings - just drag it up there. When I do that, then go to the menu tab (mailboxes), it's where I want it in the mailbox menu, at the top.

But when I close the program and reopen, it's back at the bottom. How do I get it to stay at the top?

Is there an add-on that will do that?

Thunderbird 115.5.1 (64-bit) on Windows 10.

Thank you.

Thunderbird mark message as read on delay marks it as read immediately upon opening

Anyway: Ever since I've used Thunderbird (starting at version 68 or 78, don't remember), the "mark messages read after delay" setting has never been respected. All messages are marked as read immediately after opening, thus not respecting my setting of 10 seconds.

Hi,

I've been using Thunderbird on Windows and Linux for years, and I'm very happy there.

I just bought a nice Chromebook with an i5, 16 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD.

Chomeos installs a container of Debian Linux 11 and supports flatpak apps too.

I've tried using the debian apt install thunderbird and the Flatpak version too. Mostly 115.*.

I can't get any extensions to install directly, or after downloading the .xpi file. Thunderbird never lets you click on the last button to get the extension to install. Thunderbird must be force closed.

So, my success has been to choose debug extensions, and install the file as temporary. THIS WORKS! The extensions load and operate perfectly.

The downer is I'm having to re-install the temporary addons every time I run Thunderbird.

I'm willing to do some extended troubleshooting, debugging, upload logs, pics, whatever you folks need to provide a solution for this.

I'll install whatever beta/daily versions there are in order to get this resolved for everyone with a Chromebook. It seems there are lots of other folks with Chrome OS Linux that can't load extensions.

It is "technically" I think a Linux virtual machine or as they call it a container.

I have lots of other Linux apps running happily. Libre Office runs great, as do video editors, etc...

I'm even willing to do a screencast video reproducing the problem. I'll do that later on. I'll post a link to the video so experts can watch exactly what happens. A 2 minute video is often better than text.

If anyone wants to do remote debugging, or connect, or have me set up adb debugging I will do that also.

Anyway, let me know exactly what additional information is needed.

I'll post a short video in a bit.

Thanks.

I ran Thunderbird - p to get the list of Profiles and renamed my Profile SuperNova to DA.

However, when I checked the Profile name in C:\Users\david\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles, the name is not DA but is still SuperNova so can someone tell me why it has not renamed the profile?

Thanks.

I have created sub-folders under the inbox and then created filters to "move" incoming emails from the inbox to one of the appropriate sub-folders. However, while that worked in the past, now while it does take the incoming email and transfers it to the sub-folder, it is leaving emails in the inbox, in effect doing a copy and not a move. As no indicator or the email number appeared next to the inbox, it wasn't until I actually clicking on the inbox where I found almost 1,000 emails there that I had already managed from the sub-folders. I have double checked the message filters, and it definitely indicates to move the emails, not copy.

I read my email by using the "n" (for next) shortcut in the message list pane. When the current message is at the bottom of the message list pane, I see the subject previous messages that I already read on top. The messages that will be next do not show. As a result, I have no way to anticipate what will come next, cannot quickly move to messages in the same thread.

Is there a way to make it so the current message is always in the middle of the message pane instead of being always at the bottom when "n" is used or always at the top when "p" is used, which hides the messages that are next to be displayed in both cases?

In the attached screenshots to illustrate what I want, the good one is where the current message is in the middle. The bad one is where the current message is at the bottom of the message list pane.

I am using version 115.5.1 of Thunderbird, all my folders are set to unthreaded view but Thunderbird will regularly turn one or several folders back to threaded view. When I say regularly I mean almost one time or more per 8 hours work day. I tried to identify a pattern, an action, a keyboard combination, anything really but I can't seem to find it. Today I literally just stepped away from my screen, came back 20 minutes later and found my folder in threaded view. It is driving me crazy.

How can I stop Thunderbird from forcing me to use this threaded view I do not want?

Every time I create a new local folder in Thunderbird the columns shown default to this:

Thread, Starred, Attachments, Read status, Correspondents, Spam, Date

I want all my new folders to show just these columns:

I realise I can change the columns shown but is there any way to make the settings applicable to all new local folders?

When I try to paste quicktext, instead, a line is deleted from where I wanted to paste the text, the text cursor disappears and the focus moves out of the email message box. This has been happening since updating to TB 115 from TB 102, so it is version independent after v115. I use HTML in my quicktext, but apart from that, they are rather non-complex quicktext.

I have a (now probably unsupported) user.js file and recently upgraded.

Realized that the only thing that reset between versions was "view > layout", I like the "classic view".

I manually changed it, but to make it permanent, could you point which config option I can set for that?

Thanks!

For years I've been searching for a field "Date/time deleted" as a column header for the "Deleted" folder. I've seen this in other email clients and find it absolutely necessary. If you accidentally deleted an email that is perhaps days or weeks old, it is extremely difficult to find in the delete folder: when sorting by date, it will be buried amongst hundreds of other trashed emails received around the same time, and after an accidental deletion you may not even know the date and time, the sender, or the Subject of the deleted email! Today I accidentally came across a possible solution: there is a field called "Order received", and it seems that this field contains a number which indicates the order in which emails were moved between mailboxes. Sorting by that, the latest deleted email is at the top (or bottom). Is this true, or does that field indicate something else?

Win 10 Pro, Thunderbird 115.5.0, Mail Merge 10.3.0

smtp.comcast.net, Port 465, Normal password, SSL/TLS

Have been using Mail Merge for several years. Comcast e-mail send quota is 1000 messages/day. Mail Merge had been working well with occasional batches of 900+ messages.

Since updating to Thunderbird 115, Thunderbird stops sending e-mails after approximately 11 e-mails. Messages 5-9 kb each, no attachments. Screen shot of error message attached.

Thunderbird will resume sending if I exit Thunderbird, wait for cache to empty, restart Thunderbird WITHOUT the "ask to send unsent e-mails" activated, then use the "Send Unsent E-mails" menu item.

Do you have any idea what may be happening?
