My Thunderbird has just developed a major problem. When I send an email with no attachemnt, it goes out fine. When I send an email with an attachment it is not sent even though it is listed in the "sent" folder. Does anyone know what's going on? Should I remove the program and reinstall it? Help!

Hi, there

I've been using the thunderbird as my email client for years. I've been using the same email settings for a few private email accounts, with SSL support, for a few years without any issue. Last week, I updated my email server's ssl certificate with a different CA. The update was successful, and all the email accounts are still active and working properly.

However, as I was trying to set up the same email accounts, using thunderbird, for a new PC, the thunderbird can't completed the setup. I even tried to setup the email accounts offline first, and it still failed. I am 100% sure that the email server settings are exactly the same as the currently working ones used in the old PCs. This frustrates me a lot. The failed thunderbird email setup does not provide any error messages. When I pressed "Get Messages" button, it simply shows "Connected to xxx.xx.com...", and never downloaded any messages.

I strongly suspect that it has to do with the new SSL CA.

Does anyone have similar experience ?

my name is Chris and it would be great if there is someone out there who maybe knows a solution for my problem with the E-Mail-Program Thunderbird. This is what happened and I really don't know why:

I have createt a new subfolder in the sent-folder. The idea behind this was, I will safe my sent e-mails in an extra folder and so the sent-folder stays empty. After I had created the subfolder and named it "Safety Folder Sent E-Mails" I have selected all E-Mails in the sent folder and moved them in the new subfolder. It took a moment and then I checked the two folders with this result: the sent-folder is empty and the new subfolder is ... what?? It's also empty?? How is that possible?? And why?? ... What?? - Now all Sent-E-Mails are gone. I can do what I want, they are gone. Even the click on the "Repair"-Button in the properties has no effect in both folders. If you take a look at the properties of the original sent-folder then there appears "0 E-Mails - File Size: 386 MB". The properties from the new folder are "0 E-Mails - File Size: 0 MB". So I opened the Windows-File-Explorer and checked the original sent-file on the computer. Ok, it's there and the size is the same as in the folders properties. And if I open it with the Windows Editor, then you can read only the first and the last E-Mail. The text between them both looks like this: "kwjgflkjwgjkrwguhqwukjgkj23gnvirorghnefoihrflo ..... ".

Does anybody know what has happened and how I could solve this matter? Because I don't understand it ... I was sitting there and I couldn't believe my eyes. All my sent-e-mails are really gone ... all ... I almost freaked out ...

The version from Thunderbird I use is the newes 78.12.0 Plattform is Windows 10 with newest Updates

It would be really great if somebody knows what to do.

Newest version already. For no apparent reason, all emails in Trash duplicated and some of those emails became "bolded". My unopened emails lose their "bold" when deleted. I ran Repair on both folders. Now the issues have stopped but I have thousands of duplicate emails and deleting any email in Inbox takes about 20 seconds each.

Can I fix this without having to manually delete the dupes, or by deleting them all???

I would like to use a filter to forward emails to a list that I have created, allowing me to add to or remove addresses from the list for maintenance purposes.

I have tried the same syntax that works in the To, CC or BCC fields, but I always am told to enter a valid email address in the "Forward Message To" option.

Just took out 2 letters and added a 2 to new amai address with google. I have installed it somehow on my smartphone which I use a lot. I just checked for message of the new email address on lap top. The email address does not show as listed. But I found messages in old email address, Guess if I can add new email address to those I already have- perhaps problem will be solved for new emi address. Last night I opened Thunderbird and had a forced request to sign in to the caldev calendar. I don't know why it suddenly popped up, but I cannot get past the screen to make and settings adjustments. I tried my Thunderbird credentials to login, but they don't work.

Note that I use Yahoo mail and I am able to signin to yahoo directly and use my email account.

How to I resolve this error? The attachment shows the error.

Address book name is wrong in search

I have an email I send to regularly. The persons name at that email changed. I changed the contact (address) form to reflect this.

Under the inbox, the email name is listed in the from column. In my sent folder the recipient name is the new name!

When I do a search the To: under the Subject lists the old persons name! Not a big deal, although she cost me a lot of $$$ and every time I see the old name it makes me grumpy!!

I have the new first, Last and display name listed for the contact.

Any ideas on where TB is grabbing the old name from?

In a Windows 10 PC, it is impossible to use the address books with Thunderbird (78.12.0 / 64 bits) --> nothing is displayed when I try to manage the address books. It seems that they still exist because I get a warning saying the address book already exists when I try to create a new address book with the name of one existing. If I change the name of the 2 Thunderbird folders in the users folder, when I start Thunderbird new profile folders are created, then I can create an email account and everything is OK. What are the adress book files corrupted in the profile ? How can I get them OK again ?

I don’t want to create a completely new profile for not loosing all data ...

If I create a new profile, what are the files to copy from the old profile to the new one to get all emails and address books ?

In a Windows 10 PC, it is impossible to send emails with Thunderbird (78.12.0 / 64 bits) --> nothing occurs when I try to do it. If I change the name of the 2 Thunderbird folders in the users folder, when I start Thunderbird new profile folders are created, then I can create an email account and everything is OK. What are the files corrupted in the profile ? How can I get them OK again ?

Restarting the system has not fixed this, and I am using the latest versions (automatically updated). Please advise.

tabs blank along with email

I open several emails. I use Ctrl-1 and Ctrl-9 to go back and forth.

I deleted C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\9azxazfvuzfa.default-release\session.json as I couldn't remove the last session when I closed TB.

Now I sometimes get blank tabs along with blank emails.

Delete the file again? Did I mess myself up somehow?

Hello, All of my three email accounts have disappeared after updating to Mozilla 78.12.0. It was working fine but after switching the computer off last night and on this morning, I was presented with a new screen "Welcome to Mozilla Thunderbird" and "What to Set up", after all my messages and folders have gone. I have a back up and can restore from a profile that is over a month old, so I would be missing dozens of important messages I had saved, so why has this happened and what can I do about it? Also, while I am here, why does it take over 3 minutes from "first" switch on to open Mozilla? Help/advice would be much appreciated.

I have tried setting up Gmail within Thunderbird 78.x.y. After entering credentials, and going again through login to the Gmail popup window I reach a state which is shown in the attached image.

Google security options: 2 factor off, less secure apps on, Captcha refreshed but nothing helps.
