I upgraded to Thunderbird 115.10.0 (x64) earlier today and now the program is no longer closing completely (I've tried using the X at the top right of the window, and I've also tried File menu -> Exit). I first discovered this when I was using CCleaner to clean my temporary items and it asked me if I wanted to close Thunderbird after I had already closed it. I then checked my running processes and there are three Thunderbird processes that remain after the program has supposedy closed (Task Manager screenshot attached).

Any help with this seemingly new bug is greatly appreciated!

Much thanks, -Snipe

Cox.net is transitioning from in-house e-mail to e-mail handled by Yahoo.com. Our cox.net addresses are supposed to (and apparently have) transitioned so that they still work, but are processed through pop.mail.yahoo.com.

It is my turn to be transitioned and I have been successful in doing so to the extent that I can send and receive using my address(es) ...@cox.net through Yahoo web mail and on my Samsung phone. I have not, however, been successful in either sending or receiving mail using Thunderbird on my desktop.

I have been successfully using Thunderbird with POP settings for years with four different cox.net addresses. [I'm currently just trying to get two of them working -- unsuccessfully.]

I am using Windows 10 on a Dell desktop. I am using Thunderbird 115.9.0 (32 bit). I have reset the POP and SMTP settings as directed by Yahoo. One of the errors I receive is: "Error with Account .... Sending of password for ...@cox.net did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded (SYS/TEMP) Server Error - Please try again later." It then asks me to retry or enter a new password. I have checked the passwords saved by Thunderbird and they are correct.

I suspect, that with all the Cox accounts being newly routed through Yahoo servers that I am not the only Thunderbird user experiencing this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it likely to help if I uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird? Would I loose all my mail, etc. if I did that? [I did the delete and add account in my phone and that was successful, but I wasn't concerned about losing mail there as it is all on my desktop.]

Thanks in advance. billb1111

Hi. I have used Thunderbird for a long time. I have never had a problem accessing my hotmail account for emails. Overnight Thunderbird now posts error message boxes when trying to login to the hotmail server. It reports incorrect username or password. Neither has been changed by me and comparison with Eset Password Manager shows them to be correct. I can login to Outlook online using the same login credentials an get my emails that way. I have also changed my Outlook hotmail password while logged in in my browser and updated everything on the PC to match of course.

I have massaged the server Settings for hotmail and have had the system working again, for a while. Twice I have reset the settings to a different server and back again and that seems to clear the problem for a while. Then the error messages switch on again consistently. At this moment using "File" -> "Get New Messages For:" -> "Hotmail" works without any problem and the automatic scheduled checking reports "No messages to download" so it appears to be working. But that is after just coming back to my PC to find a string of failed attempts, each with its own error box, which have appeared since I last "fixed" the problem and assumed it was now fine.

My server settings are Type: POP; Name: pop-mail.outlook.com; Port: 995; Username: same as for browser access (which works); Password: As in Thunderbird's stored passwords matching Password Manager and working browser access.

In my paranoia I have even wondered if I am being locked out by Microsoft somehow. Can anyone suggest what is going on here?

I've been plagued with incoming messages that use a foreground/background color combination too dark to read without forwarding the message and then applying white to the swept text. The uploaded image shows the progression of reading the message, sweeping the text in the message (still uncomfortably dark with low contrast), forwarding the message (still unreadable), then select the text and apply white as the text color. I've googled this problem to no avail as most hits are for color contrast in the inbox format for color.

One solution is to switch themes from "dark" or "system theme - auto" to "light" then Thunderbird switches to black text on a white background and the incoming message is readable.

Is there a setting I'm missing to automatically solve this without having to swap theme's to read a message then swap back to preferred dark mode?

I have a hotmail.com address. Until recently, it worked well as webmail, plus also from TB on laptop, via IMAP and SMTP.

A few days ago, the sending function via SMTP stopped working (not IMAP); and webmail is still fine. I've tried a lot to solve it, but to no avail.

My guess is that MS is to blame, but don't know how to reach someone better-than-hotline there.

Details see annex; OS is Win10, TB is 115.9

Would someone be familiar with this kind of problem? According to my traditional european quality idea, best should be to get in touch with an MS technician with access to the syslog, to hear what the system's response to connection attempts is - but this seems to be precluded? I wonder what alternatives there might be?

How can i get gmail to work again please.

When composing a new message (in other words, not replying to a message) I want them to always show the default email address, the one corresponding to the top account. The field "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" shows (Default), and ordinarily it works fine, but occasionally it will use one of the other email addresses. In reading your responses to other questions I've seen that the default address is only used when TB can't figure out which address to use. Is there some way I can tell TB to ALWAYS use the default address when composing a new message?

Hi all

After upgrading to 115 (Linux amd64), messages are no longer marked as read when I delete them before they are marked as read (either automatically or manually). I have (and have had for many years) set "When I delete a message" to "Move it to this folder" -> Trash on (Name of my IMAP account). Before the upgrade, messages were moved to the Trash AND automatically marked as read when I deleted them. Now, they are moved to the selected Trash folder, but left unread, and the Trash folder gets displayed in bold, together with a number counting unread messages in it.

Is there a way to get the old behaviour back?

Thanks and best regards /m

I installed Thunderbird on Windows 11 and moved my old profile over from my old computer.

Everything is fine except that HTTP: links will not open. It recognizes them because the cursor changes when I hover over them, but clicking on the link results in nothing happening.

Chrome is my default browser.

I have followed all the suggestions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working including checking that a default browser is set, using the config editor to check that network.protocol-handler.external-default preferences are set to true, and trying it in Troubleshoot mode.

Incidentally, mailto: links work just fine.

"Enter Password" box no longer comes up when I start up Thunderbird. One account has password saved but the other doesn't so I cannot access emails on this account now as they won't download without either a saved password or (as I usually do) entering a password. This affects my husband also so not just something on my account. This happened around the 20th December. I've searched through Thunderbird settings but I can't find any way of adding a password directly into Password Manager - only edit or delete. So I can't fix the problem we now both have with accessing new emails. So - any suggestions please or is there a fix coming?, kind regards
