Hi. I have used Thunderbird for a long time. I have never had a problem accessing my hotmail account for emails. Overnight Thunderbird now posts error message boxes when trying to login to the hotmail server. It reports incorrect username or password. Neither has been changed by me and comparison with Eset Password Manager shows them to be correct. I can login to Outlook online using the same login credentials an get my emails that way. I have also changed my Outlook hotmail password while logged in in my browser and updated everything on the PC to match of course.

I have massaged the server Settings for hotmail and have had the system working again, for a while. Twice I have reset the settings to a different server and back again and that seems to clear the problem for a while. Then the error messages switch on again consistently. At this moment using "File" -> "Get New Messages For:" -> "Hotmail" works without any problem and the automatic scheduled checking reports "No messages to download" so it appears to be working. But that is after just coming back to my PC to find a string of failed attempts, each with its own error box, which have appeared since I last "fixed" the problem and assumed it was now fine.

My server settings are Type: POP; Name: pop-mail.outlook.com; Port: 995; Username: same as for browser access (which works); Password: As in Thunderbird's stored passwords matching Password Manager and working browser access.

In my paranoia I have even wondered if I am being locked out by Microsoft somehow. Can anyone suggest what is going on here?

For months I was experiencing the problem of "Thunderbird not responding" occasionally. It was a short duration issue (a few seconds to a minute). I reinstalled Thunderbird several times without success. I read almost every comment available online about this problem and I tried many ideas and recommendations I found without success. Most recently the problem became so serious that it was not a nuisance any longer. It was nearly impossble to work waiting for minutes to open an email or to continue typing while preparing a message and being interrupted by the problem I am describing. I ran Thunderbird in safe mode and determined that none of the add-ons is causing the problem. I turned the firewall OFF and determined that firewall was not causing the problem. I then decided to run Thunderbird in Offline mode and found that the program works normally. Then while in Offline mode I decided to download more messages and the program asked me if I wanted to switch to the Online mode. I said yes. New emails were downloaded and without going back to the Offline mode I was able to work normally without any occurrence of the "Thunderbird not responding" problem. I have been using this workaround for several days now. I download a number of eamails. I try working in Online mode and I cannot do it. I switch to Offline and work fine. I switch back to Online mode and I don't see the problem any longer for the whole day. Do you have any idea as to the origin of my proble? I am running Thunderbird 115.10.2 64 bit on Windows 11. I had the problem originally using Lenovo T490s and more recenlt Lenovo X1 Yoga

Thunderbird 102.15.1 had been working perfectly for years until today. Popup message "login to server imap-mail.outlook.com with username XXXXXX@hotmail.com failed". Hit Retry, no good, selected "Enter New Password" and entered the original password but that also failed with same message. Login to Outlook on web with original password still works. I don't want to change the password, as it is also for my Microsoft Account. Settings follow: Server Type: IMAP Mail Server Server Name: imap-mail.outlook.com, Port 993 Outgoing Server (SMTP): Microsoft Live Hotmail - smtp-mail.outlook.com The other email account, xxxxx@charter.net works properly I have been monitoring problem reports and dissatisfaction with formatting on new version 115, and do not want to upgrade from 102.15.1 until users seem happier with 115. Please advise how to get Thunderbird to accept/use my Hotmail password.

Now getting msg - "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."

Have more than 70 Gb free on my drive. Have tried: -deleting messages and compacting the inbox. -using TB's built-in repair folder utility. -deleting and re-creating the global-messages-db.sqlite file in my profile

Have logged into my email with my browser and can't find anything wrong with the account itself. Everything seems ok on that end.

Nothing has worked. Any other suggestions?

I'm wondering if they are sent like that, what the receiver will see and if there is a way to prevent it.

The email account is using IMAP and as far as I know it happen just to that specific email account. The emails are sent using Thunderbird. I'm using the latest version of Windows on a laptop. I'm using the following Thunderbird extensions (latest versions): - Compact Headers - Send Later - Mailmindr - Quicktext

So here are my system specifications -

  1. Hardware - Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3
  2. Firmware version - R23ET65W (1.35 )
  3. Memory (RAM) - 32.0 GiB (DDR5 6400Mhz)
  4. Processor - AMD Ryzen™ 7 PRO 6850U with Radeon™ Graphics × 16
  5. Disk capacity - 256.1 GB (I don't remember the I/O rate right now but as far as I remember it's sufficiently modern)
  6. OS - Fedora Linux 38.20230828.0 (Silverblue)
  7. GNOME version - Fedora Linux 38.20230828.0 (Silverblue)
  8. Window System - Wayland
  9. Kernel - Linux 6.4.12-200.fc38.x86_64

These are like the basic config of my laptop.

Question - How to stop Thunderbird from downloading every email that I have from my gmail account on the first setup?

Concern - Last time I synced, it might have messed up even my boot loader (which should not be possible. Not I am not blaming Thunderbird here, but the timing was uncanny.) and I had to completely wipe the drive and start from scratch. Back then I did not have any data on my drive so it wasn't a big deal. But I don't want to take any chances this time.

Since Thunderbird supernova has a completely different UI, I would like to know if there's any way to disable the downloading of the whole mail box locally. Or am I going to get a prompt asking me specifically for that after logging in into my Gmail account from Thunderbird?

Note - I do not want to mess with about:config at all. And I have looked for a solution but all the answers are at least 3 to 4 years old.

I've been using TB since the beginning, so like 20 years now, congrats! (to me 😜) Now I have at least 10 accounts and hundreds of folders and everything was fine until I started archiving some old messages in one account, and TB began creating new archive folders like YYYY/YYYY-MM which were being included in the Global Search/indexer by default. So I went to the properties of each folder and unchecked the option to include it in the Global Search results. I could see in the Activity Monitor the indexing of that folder would stop and go on to the next one, until I disabled all 12. Now TB is indexing over 100,000 messages but it doesn't say what folder these are in, I can't seem to find it.

What I did find is the global-messages-db.sqlite database which, after closing TB, I made a backup of, then I found the folderLocations table with hundreds of rows and the IndexingPriority column which had various values of: -1, 20, 40, 50, and 60. I set them all to -1 and TB is still trying to index over 100,000 messages somewhere. Where? and how to stop its madness?!

Create it directly in Thunderbird, it's also impossible. In the case of this message to another sender who has Thunderbird 102.15.1, it opens without any problems, forward it to the recipient who has access to the 115.4.2 version, it already opens ten files and saves it to disk in a size that has ten files. Strange thing, it works, but it can't be like that. Please let me know what could be the solution to the problem.

I can no longer send outgoing email using Thunderbird on any of my Spectrum email accounts.

I have no problem receiving incoming email on any of these accounts. I also don't have a problem sending email from my iPhone or iPad.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Hi Community, i wanted to ask wether it normal that Thunderbird 115 needs 60 seconds to load the interface? When it starts it shows my personalised theme and an empty space for a whole minute. (i measured it)

Directly after installation everything was fine. But now i have set up my acconts and rearranged some buttons. Is there maybe a problem with Exchange synchronisation on startup? Both of my accounts are provided by Exchange servers.

Good morning. I need help with sending emails in Thunderbird. The problem has existed for a couple of days now and is confusing as some emails are sent and others fail. I am receiving mail OK. Details of my setup are :- I am using a HP All-in-one desktop running Windows 11 with Norton 360. My Thunderbird account settings: Server type: IMAP mail server User name: ****@gmail.com Server name: imap.gmail.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth2 Outgoing Server (SMTP): Google Mail – smtp.gmail.com (Default) User name: ****@gmail.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth2

The problem: I only recently set up Thunderbird and at first it seemed to working OK. However, now when I try to send a message, after some time, I the following error message :-

"Send Error Message Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again."

What is particularly confusing is that some messages are being sent. I have tried several fixes that I found from the Mozilla, Google and Norton web sites but none of the fixes resolved the issue. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Regards Mike

PS: I have 2 email accounts set up in Thunderbird. I just tried sending a test message from the Gmail account to the Bigpond account. From the Gmail account it appears to have been sent but in the Bigpond account an error message appeared as follows :-

"Could not connect to the mail server smtp.telstra.com; the connection was refused."

I don't know if this is a related issue or I have another one to resolve.

Hi, since I returned to Thunderbird (~5 months), every time I open the program it freezes for at least one minute before becoming responsive.

I have a gaming rig and I don't use any add-on so I cannot figure out why it happens. I'm available for any log sharing as this has happened for months and the following solutions only worked once (as with a restart everything returned unresponsive): - delete startup cache; - run Thunderbird on safe mode; - delete the profile and re-log on everything.

Current setup: - OS version: Windows 11 - RAM: 16GB - Thunderbird version: 115.2.0

Started getting error April 10. I have SSL/TLS and Oauth2 set for Thunderbird account server and smtp. Looked thru lots of web messages - no joy. Via web browser I can connect to my Yahoo email without issue. My gmail account on Thunderbird still works fine (with its unique third party password). I am on current Thunderbird release 115.9.0 (64 bit). I disabled the only add-on that Thunderbird was using. Windows 11 Pro which is up to date. Plenty of open disk space. Have rebooted my PC multiple times.

Looking for suggestions Thanks Bob
