I have been working fine with Thunderbird, but today it won't start up. It asks my master password, but then it doesn't show the screen with my email accounts / emails.. In task manager I have two lines with Thunderbird, but no activity. I tried to re install (without uninstall as I don't want to lose my emails), but that didn't change anything. Not sure what I can do.

In the "Find / Search" menu, files are concatenated by subject. This leads to incorrect date ordering, so sometimes impossible or very difficult to locate messages. It would be helpfull if we could de-activate this concatenated view in search option, as we can do in the main Inbox window, showing all messages by date only, and not concatenated by Subject.

Thanks for your attention. [removed email and phone# from support forum]

I've been plagued with incoming messages that use a foreground/background color combination too dark to read without forwarding the message and then applying white to the swept text. The uploaded image shows the progression of reading the message, sweeping the text in the message (still uncomfortably dark with low contrast), forwarding the message (still unreadable), then select the text and apply white as the text color. I've googled this problem to no avail as most hits are for color contrast in the inbox format for color.

One solution is to switch themes from "dark" or "system theme - auto" to "light" then Thunderbird switches to black text on a white background and the incoming message is readable.

Is there a setting I'm missing to automatically solve this without having to swap theme's to read a message then swap back to preferred dark mode?

All of a sudden a number of emails are arriving with the correct subject line but the sender is listed as HotelMaven, with whom I do correspond. The emails are forwarded from my billsteiner@duck.com address. The sender, when viewed with BlueMail on my phone and tablet, is correct, so this is a Thunderbird issue.

Also, at the same time, Thunderbird began asking me for my password every time I open it. This has never happened before.

My Thunderbird email is bill@kikibobo.xyz. You can also reach me at wssteiner@yahoo.com. Thanks for your help. Bill Steiner

I have noticed an issue with lists (bullet & numbered) for a while now and thought it was about time I checked to see if it can be sorted!

If I start a new message and there is no text and then I press the Bullet button then this is OK.

However, if I.....

  • Start with a blank message
  • Type a line of text
  • Hit Return twice
  • Press the Bullet button - this moves the cursor up to previous line
  • Press the Bullet Button - this moves the cursor up to the end of text on previous line
  • Press the Bullet button - this put a bullet symbol at start of the line of text

This makes it very frustrating trying to add a bulleted list in the middle of a message.

I saw a previous thread when the OP was having the same problem and his solution seemed to be connected with his HTML signature, but I don't have a signature set up.

This is version 115.9.0 (32-bit) running on Windows 10.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

I received a secure email from my bank. The file name is PGPMessage.pdf, which probably tells you all you need to know about it. I can open it with no problem, but when I click the button to "Reply Securely" nothing happens. When I hover over the Reply Securely button, I see a long URL, but preceded by the word "Disabled".

Just to be clear about this - I don't use the PGP/encryption facilities of TB for my own emails, this is just a one-off email I received. And yes, I'm satisfied it's legitimate.

What can I do about this? Is this being caused by FF itself, or an extension? I have attached a picture of my extensions.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

With the recent change of putting new messages in a nested 'thread', new messages are still bold; But because it is now nested, one doesn't know if there is a new message at a glance like before.

I've seen in a comment posted here about the same situation but it involves creating css files and such.

Could thunderbird not make some adjustment and just highlight the top visible message as bold if there is a new message within it's thread?

I get emails that come in without a subject line and I would like to add a filter which deletes these. I've tried using various ways in the Message Filter and nothing seems to work. Do I need to put in a special character in the Subject Contains field like *no subject*? Leaving it blank obviously does not work. Thanks in advance.

I've got two inboxes: x@domain1.com and y@domain2.com.

y@domain2.com receives emails from multiple domains in it's inbox, and I use inbox folders + Message Filters to easily view the inbox for each domain in a folder each.

x@domain1.com is an older account with just one email address attached to it. I want to delete this inbox after migrating all of it's inbox to y@domain2.com. I thought it'd be possible just by cutting and pasting the MBOX file of x@domain1.com into y@domain2.com's MBOX, but those emails didn't show in the y@domain2.com's inbox.

How can I accomplish this?

Suddenly, the nice blue "New Email" button at the top of my folders has VANISHED and there is no way to create a new email! I can reply to emails, but I can't compose a new one!

I don't know if a fix is in the works, but for now: how do I downgrade to a previous version that I can use to send new mail? I'm at a standstill here!

Thank you!

I'm trying to move Thunderbird to a new PC. Both PC's are running Windows 11. I've followed the instructions for locating my profile. According to "Troubleshooting Information" my profile is supposed to be located at "C:\Users\photo\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\k6i7koof.default-release\Mail\Local Folders". When I click on the "Open Folder" button, I receive an error message that the folder does not exist. When I try navigating to the folder manually, I can not find a "Thunderbird" folder under "AppData\Roaming". I've selected "Show Hidden Files/Folders" under Windows Explorer. I know my profile exists because I can access a set of Local Folders when I'm in Thunderbird. I'd really like to move those folders over to my new PC. Any help to find the profile folder will be much appreciated.

We have a number of medical services (chiros, physios, optometrists etc) who all use the same platform to run their appointment booking tasks. For all of these, any email coming from them comes from the same email address, that of the platform viz: <notifications@janeapp.com>

I have previously added this to my contacts, using the contact name Damini Physio.

Today I received an email where the From: header in the actual email source is Okanagan Vision Therapy <notifications@janeapp.com>

But it displays in Thunderbird as being From Damini Physio. I have noticed this happening with all the other clinics that use the same platform - they all show in my Thunderbird as being from Damini despite having the correct identification encoded in the email From header.

Is there some way I can fix this so that Thunderbird shows the correct source of the email? ie that it gives preference to the name encoded in the email rather than looking up the contact name for that email address?

Thanks

Hi This morning, when I wasn't at the computer, my emails suddenly all changed! To explain, I keep my emails in date order with the latest received emails at the bottom of the list. When I came back to the computer, 5 unconnected emails from different recipients had all 'threaded' under one email recipient - they are all from dates in September, October and November now listed in the middle of todays received emails. Using the help topic 'Ignoring Threads' didn't help, as when I clicked on the View menu I only have submenus - Toolbars/Layout/Folders - no Threads menu. If I right click on any of the messages, clicking on either Ignore Thread or Ignore Subthread, makes no difference. I have done an Alt Print Screen, but can't save that as a .jpeg in order to attach it - is there some other way I can send a copy? Thanks in advance for your help! Sue Minns
