How do I disable the ANNOYING message box I get every time I want to send a message to the trash folder. Thunderbird keeps asking me if I want the message deleted to save disk space. This just started in the past week. I want my deleted messages to go to the trash folder and I will manage that folder. I can't seem to find anything in settings that lets me disable this option.

When I selected the TB icon a window came up saying I must set up my existing email account. I fill in my name, my eddress and password. The next window that comes up shows TB found mobile.charter.net but my email was set up using email.twc.com. The port numbers are the same but the server names are different. When I complete this activity the end result is that my information if rejected. I attempted to configure it by hand but it too was rejected. I am using an HP desktop with the latest Win 10 OS. I don't know what to do.

I can't back-up my mailbox.

  • I have the same problem as in the question from markosv63 8/19/20, 10:01 PM (now archived) in that I have many emails in many folders.
  • The procedure recommended to markosv63 doesn't work. That procedure is in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage.
  • I don't think I use an imap account because my server type is POP Mail - Port 110 (default).
  • I followed exactly the recommended procedure but the result was a folder marked updates, containing a folder marked 8216C80C92C4E828.
  • 8216C80C92C4E828 contains a folder marked updates plus two files, one file called update-config.json and the other called updates. This updates folder contains an empty folder marked 0 plus two files, marked backup-update and last-update.
  • None of these files or folders contains any emails.

OSX Ventura 13.1, 102.9.0 (64-bit), Gmail imap, when Tbird applies filter to move message a strikethrough copy remains in inbox. A non strikethrough copy is in allmail. When I try to delete the ST copy in inbox it just removes the ST and the message remains. The left click menu delete works. None of these actions have any effect on the moved message. Messages are moved to Local Folders. When I select an unread message in the inbox it immediately changes to ST status. No messages have ST in Allmail. I tried to set the delete action to move messages to a "New trash" folder and most of the inbox vanished. The "Inbox" appears to be worthless and undependable. All I am trying to do is to have my filters work like they used to when I was using POP3. My wife's windoze machine is now having similar issues.

We've been using thunderbird for more than 20 years now at work. It has proven itself reliable and production ready. I am sorry to say in the last 5 years or so every update has been worse than the previous one becoming the least reliable piece of software ever. Constant crashing ie 8-10 times a day, lack of smtp communication with the servers, and other constant issues basically make this unusable.

PLEASE forget about aesthetics and concentrate on reliability.

Hello,

I am facing a weird issue with my Thunderbird installation. When I am moving up and down my mouse on the account pane on the right of Thunderbird, the app gets slow and increases cpu usage to 80%+. I have tried disabling indexing and hardware acceleration but these didn't solve the issue. I also installed 92b1 version but the problem continues. On the 78th version there was no issue like this. Here I have attached a gif to represent the problem.

PS.: If you see a 50%+ on the utilization on the taskbar on the beginning it is because I was running a gif recorder to make the above animation. It usually runs between 20 - 30 % but when I am trying to select an account to thunderbird it jumps to 89%.

We have multiple email accounts on an email hosting service. Now using Thunderbird 91.0.3, it doesn't seem to like multiple outgoing servers. TB wants to keep using the previous email name(s) outgoing, i.e. "me@mydomain.com" for the next entry. So even though I add an smtp server "you@mydomain.com" TB will automatically make it "me@mydomain. Then in the recipients email, it will show the correct sender email addy, but under correspondents it has the wrong info.

Hi

I have a thunderbird with 3 google accounts and 2 ovh accounts Since today I'm annoyed with my google (no problem with ovh) accounts that ask me for my password every time I try to search new messages.

I confirm the password, I confirm on my phone that "it's me", I confirm that I validated, it seems to work but

- it does not retrieve my new emails
- it asks me again for the password the next time

I am in POP port 995 and SSL/TLS / OAuth2 I tried to delete the saved passwords, to disable the firewall I'm out of ideas...

Thanks in advance for your help

I open several emails. I use Ctrl-1 and Ctrl-9 to go back and forth.

I deleted C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\9azxazfvuzfa.default-release\session.json as I couldn't remove the last session when I closed TB.

Now I sometimes get blank tabs along with blank emails.

Delete the file again? Did I mess myself up somehow?

Thanks.

I have downloaded Thunderbird recently and when I did this some email was shown in the inbox. Since then nothing has arrived. The email that appeared in the Thunderbird app was dated up to the day that I downloaded the app but nothing since. I have tried sending a test message from Thunderbird and this worked.

I have checked my settings on my ISP's website and put these in. My ISP is PlusNet. My PlusNet webmail shows incoming emails which do not show in the Thunderbird app. I have an IMAP account with my ISP.

I have worked through the help pages and I have checked things like the passwords.

I have Windows 10 Home 64 bit on my laptop.

Can anyone help, please?

Recently a strange error message has started appearing at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen when I attempt to send many (but not all) emails. It reads as follows:

"Unable to connect to the IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use the Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialogue to reduce the number of cashed connections."

The outgoing email is usually not saved in my "Sent" folder either and I have to go through a complicated procedure of manually saving it to a folder I didn't even know existed which is called "Sent-[my email address]" and then transferring the saved email to wherever I want to store it.

What does this mean and what should I do about it and get Thunderbird working normally again?

After TB update, emails not working correctly

Here is some background information:

  • I have a new computer running Windows 10; it is about half a year old.
  • The most recent version of TB is installed. The problem started a few days ago.
  • I collect mail from my ISP and also from a hosting company that runs my business web site. I am having problems with the emails from my ISP.

This is not the first time that a TB update caused my emails not to work. The last time it happened, I was using my old computer, which was a Windows 7 machine.

I have checked my POP and SMTP settings (according to the documentation that my ISP provides) and all the settings are correct. Here are the problems:

When I click "Get Mail", I get this prompt: "Sending of user name did not succeed. Mail server [name] responded: Internal server error"

It seems that I can send mail FROM my ISP email addresses, but cannot receive mail sent TO my ISP email addresses. My passwords have not changed.

My ISP will not trouble-shoot Thunderbird because it changes too often to keep up.

I am hoping that this will fix itself with a future TB update, but who knows? That's what happened last time. But updating did not fix it.

By the way, it appears that I no longer have control over whether TB updates. Is that true? I can't find anything in Settings that gives me control. I have already abandoned FireFox because of the weekly updates, I don't want to have to abandon Thunderbird also.

Is it possible that a simple reboot may fix the problem? I haven't tried that yet.

==

Added later: My brother is an engineer who knows more than most technical support people do, and we spent a few hours trouble-shooting the problem. In Gmail, we were able to download my emails by reducing the user name for each email address from aaaaa@bbbbb.com to just aaaaa, but that didn't work in TB. We verified the correct settings, and then we tweaked the settings in different ways, but we couldn't fix the problem in TB. We ended up concluding that TB is probably responsible.

Rebooting my computer didn't work. This definitely started with a TB update, and so TB needs to be fixed.

Is it possible to install an old version of TB that lets me control the updates? If the developers are going to ruin the program with poorly programmed updates, I need to protect myself.

When I add new folders in Thunderbird (for new customers), they show up in Thunderbird, but they do not show up in My Computer (in the Thunderbird Folder). I use My Computer for searching because it allows me to search all 14K+ customer folders. This allows me to search for phone numbers, cities, names, etc., very quickly. However, very recently (after a recent update), the new folders are not showing up in My Computer, even though they are actually there. It's almost like they aren't being indexed... Hope you can help.

In version 102.10.1 I can change the font size of the various Thunderbird panes independently. I've used the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx variable in the Config Editor to get the menu, folder index, headings, and other fixed parts of the UI to a reasonable size, but the message pane, reply quote, and other parts of the displayed text are way too large. I've tried to use the font size controls in Settings to adjust them, but with little luck.

So, what I would like to see is a concise table showing each font size parameter and exactly which panes and text it applies to. Or, I would like to see written instructions for making the font size the same for all text appearing in Thunderbird, anywhere in Thunderbird.

Or any other answer that is equivalent to these to help me achieve the same font size throughout Thunderbird.

Note: while I can see that some text is too large, I have not verified that a recipient would see text that is too large, since I'm not certain how to test for this, or how to text for both plain text and formatted text. I prefer to send plain text and receive formatted text, if that is relevant.
