I had been using Thunderbird + Enigmail + Gpg4win + Yubikey to sign and encrypt my emails and the setup worked pretty well. However, after updating to Thunderbird 78, which has built-in OpenPGP support, I'm having trouble to configure it to work with my Yubikey.

Following is my GPG keyring:

PS C:\Users\DDoSolitary> gpg -K --keyid-format long C:/Users/DDoSolitary/AppData/Roaming/gnupg/pubring.kbx

sec# ed25519/50268311C7AD3F62 2017-09-02 [SC]

     688E1D093C3638F588890D4450268311C7AD3F62

uid [ultimate] DDoSolitary <DDoSolitary@gmail.com> uid [ultimate] DDoSolitary <DDoSolitary@outlook.com> ssb> rsa4096/A7A1C4F99C807AD4 2019-03-21 [A] ssb> rsa4096/F091309F5863457C 2019-03-21 [E] ssb> rsa4096/90A79E1B71BC0CB1 2019-03-21 [S]

The master key is kept offline and the subkeys are stored in my Yubikey and are used to sign/encrypt messages.

What I've tried:

1. Enable "mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg" according to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:OpenPGP:Smartcards 2. Add my key ID to in the "End to End Encryption" section of Account Settings (I've tried key ID of the master key and the signing subkey, both of which don't work) 3. Write a new message, check "Security > Digitally Sign This Message", then click Send.

I've checked that the GPGME library (C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuPG\bin\libgpgme-11.dll) is in the PATH environment variable. As Gpg4win only provides 32-bit builds, I also reinstalled the 32-bit version of Thunderbird.

Unfortunately, I always get "Unable to send the message, because there is a problem with your personal key. The configured key ID 'xxx' cannot be found on your keyring."

Lately I've been repeatedly asked for my SMTP password on the first email I send of the day (until closing TB) from certain accounts of those I have.

There appears to be nowhere where I can just ADD an SMTP account and it's respective password.

The particular accou8nt does not appear in the SMTP list of about ten accounts I have. Thus I can't edit it.

Believe me, for the two accounts in which this has been happening, they were once in that list.

Now the account is there but the smtp usage data is not on a line.

And when I do enter the respective password, TB does not ask me to remember it nor make an addition to the SMTP list.

thanks

I use gmail and Thunderbird. Everything has worked for several years. A few days ago I changed my Gmail password.

I am able to access my mail via gmail's web interface using this new password. When I start up Thunderbird, it opens a window asking me to sign into my Google account. The screen has a field for my email address which is pre-populated with my correct email address. It also has a "Next" button. Upon clicking the button, I expected to be taken to a screen which asks for my password. Instead, my email address is deleted from the field and replaced with "Email or phone."

OK, I re-enter my email address and click "Next" again. The same thing happens. I try my phone number and get the message "Couldn't find you Google Account. Try entering your email address instead". Note - the phone number is correct and linked to my Google account. I used it to change my Google password which of course led to this problem.

Also, after experiencing this I tried notifying Thunderbird of my new password via Options > Privacy and Security > Saved Passwords... In this screen I changed both incoming and outgoing passwords to my new Gmail password and retried. Same exact experience. Next I went back to this screen and deleted both passwords and retried. Same exact experience.

Please help.

Thanks.

About a week or two ago, every email ended with "Login to server smtp.mail.com with username jo4hn@mail.com failed" and a request for a new password. I cannot remember what the password was or if I ever knew it. I worked in CS for 30+ years and am now 20 years in obsolescence. If someone could carefully guide an old fart through this recovery, I will be eternally grateful.

I use Thunderbird 78.8.0 and Firefox 86.0 build3

I changed my gmail password in FF and can use gmail in an FF tab but TB login fails with new or old gmail password. I recently changed Thunderbird security from 0Auth2 to 'normal password'. I tried removing my account from TB and adding back - it still fails. What did I do wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

When trying to send emails with the gmail account ####@utexas.edu my account requests me to sign in using an unrelated SSO login connected to the website www.utexas.edu. We have set the smtp to smtp.gmail.com and the port to 465, and I am able to receive emails to my inbox just fine without having to interact with the www.utexas.edu sso page. Incoming server is set to imap.gmail.edu port 993 and both are set to ssl/tls and OAuth2. Another user was able to successfully install Thunderbird and set it up with the @utexas.edu gmail account with no issues. I am on Thunderbird version 78.8.0 and Mac OS 10.14.6.

I accidentally upgraded from Thunderbird 68 with Enigmail to Thunderbird 78.7.1.

I use Inline-PGP because a recipient had problems reading PGP/MIME, requiring manual decrypt. Now, only PGP/MIME is supported.

How can I add back Inline-PGP support?

I found a related bug in bugzilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1602481 It's marked as low priority.

There are other problems with PGP support compared to Enigmail, like PGP key password protection, encrypted subject (now fixable in the config editor), per-recipient automatic encryption rules, and popup dialog confirmation box when sending encrypted or unencrypted mail. Those, I can deal with.

Not having Inline-PGP is a blocking issue for me. I don't have a recent profile backup and downgrading Thunderbird is not supported.

I cannot use OpenPGP encryption on one of my email addresses, because its private key does not appear in the End-to-End encryption of the account setting. Exactly, I can have added the private key through the wizard of the account setting, but there is no private key in the End-to-End encryption of the account setting instead of the private key appearing in the OpenPGP key manager.

The other email accounts are OK, i.e. I can use OpenPGP encryption on the accounts. The differences from the troubled email account are followings: - The troubled email account uses Ed255 not ECDSA algorithm. - Name of the troubled email account includes UTF-8 Japanese characters. - The troubled email account also registers S/MIME private.

Please give me advice on this problem. Thanks.

I am receiving 100's of spam emails. They are all advertising different types of products but they all say they are from AT&T High Speed Internet. I have used the junk filter on them but it does not pick them up as junk. I have to do it manually each time. I have contacted my UVerse provider and they cannot assist because it is getting through Yahoo to Thunderbird. They say that it is a problem that I will have to have assistance from Thunderbird to resolve so that I can have this listed as junk and will not have to do this manually. I am at my wit's end. Please, please help me!

I took my laptop overseas (from the UK) and because I was on a quite different wi-fi network, Gmail wanted me to verify my account and change my Google password, which I did. Gmail now works fine via Chrome. But Thunderbird now asks for:

Enter your password for [my email address@gmail.com]@imap.googlemail.com: and I have no idea what password is required. Whatever password I put in, and I've tried every variant of password that I can ever remember using anywhere, gets rejected.

If I did set up such a password when I downloaded and began to use Thunderbird I can't remember it, and I can see no way to get Thunderbird to remind me. I even uninstalled Thunderbird and then loaded it afresh, but it just restored what I always had - no emails in for the last 2 weeks (though I have them all on Gmail itself).. Any suggestions welcome!
