I installed Thunderbird and set up my Outlook account with no problem. However, every time I try to add my Gmail account I get an error message "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password." This happens whether I try to set up the account using either Thunderbird's automatic configuration by doing a manual configuration. Can anyone help? I can log into Gmail on the web with this email address and password with no problem.

Hi,

I put some messages into folders yesterday and then created another folder and dragged the first folder into it to become a subfolder.

When I did this, I saw the new folder but it couldn’t be expanded to show the subfolders.

All other mail clients showed the correct hierarchy except Thunderbird.

Why is this happening?

Secondly, I post comments on the thunderbird blog regularly but they never show up. Where are they disappearing to? Are you receiving them?

I have the latest Thunderbird (128.8.1) on my win 10 pc. I have 3 email accounts On start up it is set to check for emails - it checks account 1, 3 times, accounts 2 & 3 twice each. If i select file - get new messages for.... and choose an account, it will check all accounts when account 1 is selected, some of them multiple times, it will check accounts 1 and 2 when account 2 is selected, and it will check account 3 twice whe account 3 is selected. It successfully retirieves al emails from ll accounts. It has been working correctly (just checks all 3 accounts at startup once each) for years, but just recently, it has assumed this behaviour. Not sure if it is related to a recent update. Any ideas ? thank you

This is a strange issue. I've been using Thunderbird for over 15 years, and today, while working with a client, I attempted to click "New Event," but it was greyed out. After ending the call, I started troubleshooting.

Steps I’ve Taken:

  • Re-added all existing accounts—no change.
  • Tried adding a fresh calendar—received a strange error (which I didn’t copy) about encryption or a "request missing required authentication credential."
  • Uninstalled Provider for Google Calendar and removed all accounts.
  • Same authentication error—Google sign-in system wouldn't appear.
  • Searched Google for recent similar issues—nothing in the past 30 days, nothing within the past year.
  • Restarted my computer.
  • Was able to re-add all accounts, but nothing is syncing.
  • At this point, I’m completely baffled. No system changes have been made. I'm running Windows 10 with the latest version of Thunderbird and its extensions. My system clock and timezone are correct.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

message from Mozilla about loss of account

Hi, Mozilla. I got an email from you (or someone pretending to be you) about losing access to browsing products like Firefox sync, Mozilla Monitor, Firefox Relay, and MDN.

I am wondering is this a real message or spam?

I have been a Mozilla customer since your offices were in the Landmark buildings in Mountain View (now part of Google). I do on occasion use Firefox as a browser, but am not asked for a password, so I assume I'm automatically signed in. However, I use Thunderbird nearly daily as my main email account. I also don't sign in to that because it doesn't ask me to, and this must be how the account is set up (sorry I don't remember exactly; that was a while ago).

So if this message is really from you, am I at risk of losing my Thunderbird account? If so, I have a lot of work to do transferring to something else.

Thanks for your answer.

In Thunderbird 128.8.1esr (32-bit) Danish language version, on Windows 10, when a list of past notifications pops up, I cannot close them. Whether I use "Turn off" individual notifications one by one, or "Turn all off", nothing happens, except the first time I try, I can see at the bottom left of the screen that communication takes place with the server. But the notification doesn't disappear. On following attempts, nothing happens at all, until I restart Thunderbird, then again I get a long list of notifications from the past that have never been turned off.

As for individual notifications popping up at the scheduled time, I can mostly, but not always, turn them off.

The calendars are no google servers. The problem started occurring 2-3 months ago.

I am trying to add a gmail account to thunderbird. I have the following three configurations. They all have thunderbird 136.0.1.

desktop windows 10 laptop windows 11 update 2025-03 23H2 desktop windows 11 update 2025-03 24H2

The desktop windows 11 version fails, and the other two work without any problem. I enter the account name/password, and thunderbird identifies the gmail server info. I enter 'done' and a gmail window opens. It says to allow thunderbird to connect to gmail, enter 'done'. After that, there is a google window that says 'Error 400', and it dies.

Note that the windows 11 version that works is older than the one that fails.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello! I am developing an application for an organization that uses Thunderbird in a Windows environment. Among other features, it is necessary to implement the transfer of mail client settings from one workstation to another. Built-in Mozilla Thunderbird tools are not suitable. I am still considering implementation options (autoconfig or direct work with files), and I have several questions. I will be very grateful for any help. 1. What is the minimum required files in the appdata folder that I need to create (transfer) so that the profile works without errors on the new workstation? No need to transfer messages, they are all on the server, and offline work is not used 2. How does the installs.ini file work? I need to avoid creating a new profile when starting Thunderbird for the first time, do I need to create an entry in installs.ini, and if so, where can I get the correct installation code? 3. Is it possible to transfer saved passwords to a new workstation? What are the requirements for this? I am very grateful for any answers

My POP Thunderbird account is no downloading messages (Yahoo mail). This happened months ago and then started working again moths later. I figured Thunderbird had been fixed. But a few days ago it stopped again (the same day Yahoo Mail introduced a new format, but I don't know whether that's an issue). When I hit the icon to download messages, Thunderbird says the account is being processed. Sometimes it asks me if I want to download messages before going off line, but it still doesn't download (and I am Never off line). This applies to POP Thunderbird on three different computers. I need HELP

Can't seem to get thunderbird to connect to my xfinity (comcast.net) email... tried full reinstalls, changing the password, and all the steps in this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1437228

As well as trying "normal password" instead of OAuth2. The OAuth2 option does not seem to generate a pop-up to authorize that way. Using other 3rd party and logging in via browser also work.

Does thunderbird need to update something to fix the issue? Its been only a few weeks now for me that this was an issue.
