If I copy a message file of Local Folders from the Thunderbird profile on one computer to the corresponding path on another computer, will Thunderbird process it correctly?

I see my e-mails in Local Folders are stored in this file, /home/norio/.thunderbird/<random>.default-release/Mail/Local\ Folders/<subfolder_name>.sbd/Inbox If I copy this file to the same path (except rewriting <random> string) on another computer by OS's commands (like cp and rsync), will the messages show up in Thunderbird on the destination computer?

I see many back-up and recovery articles that instructs the users to copy the entire profile directory and copy it to the new computer. I wonder if I can copy only a message file, so that I don't have to overwrite the entire settings and messages on the destination computer.

From an upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 I had a fresh installation of Thunderbird 128.4.4esr with a new profile in a different location. After some attempts at migration I ended up with

I also get problems when i try to save files using IMAP aftr send, they opften land up failing and only save to Local Root after save button pressed after failure

Hi there. I used the export/import functions to export my Thunderbird profile to a new computer.

It was largely successful. Many of my layout and general appearance settings were not imported to the new computer, but I just re-set those manually.

My last remaining problem is that it appeared that none of my local folders and messages were exported.

However, when I use file explorer to go to drive C on my new computer,

\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxxx.default-esr\Mail\Local Folders\Storage.sbd All of the folders, subfolders and messages are right there.

They're just not showing up in the directory tree pane or account pane (sorry, not sure what you really call it) in my main Thunderbird interface. All I see are "Trash" and "Outbox."

Anyone have any ideas as to how I make my local folders and messages re-appear?

Hello there. I've followed the instructions in the appropriate support article and transferred our Thunderbird profile from a Widows 10 machine to a Windows 11. My profile as a .zip file is larger than the 2GB limit, so I used the Widows Explorer cut and paste. It's likely that I've done something slightly awry as one of my local sub folders hasn't transferred. Otherwise TB works fine. Is it possible to just restore the particular local folder, as I can find both the entries in my mail folder on windows explorer? However the view of the two entries looks rather different on the two computers when I compare a local folder that has transferred. Regards, Arthur

Every start of Thunderbird 128.4.0esr (64bit) on Windows 11 (64bit) I get a dialog with the message: "Zum Ausführen der gewünschten Aktion ist kein E-Mail-Programm zugeordnet. Installieren Sie ein entsprechendes E-Mail-Programm, oder erstellen Sie in der Systemsteuerung unter "Standardprogramme" eine Zuordnung, wenn bereits ein Programm installiert ist."

Thunderbird is the standard E-Mail programm in "Standardprogramme". Reinstallation of Thunderbird did not change the behavior. User account is not administrator. For installing Thunderbird, the administrator password was requested. Windows 11 is freshly installed. Thunderbird has been installed as one of the first programms. Windows is: Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, installed 10.10.2024, build 26100.2033. Dialog appeared right from the beginning, even before a profile was imported, and at every program start.

I post-installed two extentions, but the dialog showed up before and after installation and also if I disable them. The dialog appears right after the Thunderbird window has been created (that is after the master password entry of the profile).

Playing around with settings, I experienced, that switching the Thunderbird language from German to English (US), the dialog and message disappear. Could you please fix it with the German language pack?

When attempting to pull email from remote servers, the Thunderbird status message is "Checking server capabilities ....". This has gone for hours with no change, or the attempt just stops with no status update and no emails. This occurs regardless of VPN usage. What happened and how do I fix this ?!?!?

Good morning, I had asked a question early on Saturday, but was unavailable the rest of the weekend so just now responding to associate Corey Bryan's answer. I had gotten a message that I am using an unsupported version and they recommend downloading the latest stable version. He said it appears that I'm on the "Release" channel and most likely want to be on the ESR channel. I also mentioned that I am a cave-man when it comes to anything computer and am very skittish about making any changes as I don't how to straighten out any errors that might occur. He asked me where I installed Thunderbird from and the answer is that I don't know. It was an IT guy that did it many years ago. So I guess my questions are, if I've been using this version for years, do I need to or should I update it? If so, if I click on the latest stable version of Thunderbird, will that change anything on my computer, aside from getting the newer version of T-Bird? I worked with an IT guy to help me transfer information from Carbonite back to Thunderbird. I can see all the files download to my computer but can't get them and the address book to update. Does anyone know someone who specializes in helping people with Thunderbird issues?

I have 128.5.0esr (64-bit) running on a Chromebook, about a week ago it started only showing the top of message boxes and no content. So if you say go to delete an Event from the Calendar you can't as a box pops up but only has the banner at the top saying 'Delete Event' with the close option at the end of it, the rest of the box with the 'Yes' option is missing. Any ideas on how to fix this? thanks

I’m having some trouble with Thunderbird and could use some guidance. I’ve been trying to install the latest version, but I keep running into issues. The installation either fails midway or gives an error message I can’t figure out.

Also, for the times when I’ve managed to install Thunderbird, I’ve noticed that updates don’t seem to apply properly. The program either doesn’t update automatically or prompts me to download the full installer again.

Could someone explain the proper steps for installing Thunderbird and ensuring updates are applied correctly? Are there any common pitfalls or settings I should check to avoid these issues?

In Windows 11, the Address Book is accessed via an icon on top left of the TB main page or Alt+2. In Windows 11 is there a similar key combination to view the folders below Local Folders?

I have an issue with the Add-On Cardbook in it's latest version (97.7) as well with last version I knew that worked with Thunderbird 128.5 which was 94.4 of Cardbook.

Upgraded to Thunderbird 128.5.1 the latest version of Cardbook can't migrate all my contacts. With the lower version in use it can't synchronize my Google-Account-Contacts within 5 Minutes. Indeed it took several hours to synchronize and show 21 of 113 contacts.

This happened before when I tried to update Cardbook, but then was it able to synchronize with Google within less than a minute.

Every few days I get a Can't load XPcom error when trying to launch Thunderbird. I know how to fix this problem when it occurs (manually delete T'bird from Programs, download and install latest version), but every few days it occurs again, which is getting tiring. How can I fix this so the error won't occur, at least not so often?
