Outlook.com and Microsoft inform me that in September 2024, Outlook 2007 will no longer work for email because it does not meet their spiffy new authentication thingy. They want me to quit using Windows 7, but I need it to run legacy productivity software for which there is nothing comparable. So, Windows 7 it is. I do have a dual boot system that includes Windows 10, but I don't want to mess with it for email if possible.

Microsoft suggested that Thunderbird would work, so I downloaded it. That's when everything went sideways. There is no utility to move my existing files and folders intact from Outlook 2007 to Thunderbird. I tried Thunderbird's Import but it refuses to cooperate. So, last chance for Thunderbird is contacting you.

Help me make a clean transition from Outlook 2007 to Thunderbird without losing contacts, folders and files.

I've just replaced Windows 10 with a clean install of Windows 11 and then did a clean install of Thunderbird. No snags and Thunderbird is working fine on all my email accounts. BUT No Thunderbird folders in Windows Explorer are visible. I've looked for my Profiles folder where Thunderbird says it is but it's not there or it's invisible! Similarly there are no visible Thunderbird folders under any program folders. As my emails are working fine, none of this would matter except I do local email backups using a batch program run by Windows task scheduler so I need to be able to get to the profiles folder for this (been running fine for years under Windows 10). Also I'm curious! So, is this entirely a Thunderbird problem, or entirely a Windows 11 problem, or some interaction between the two. Any solutions? Many thanks for any help you can give. Clive

When I install Thunderbird, either the Microsoft-approved version (129mb) or directly from thunderbird site (119mb), I get the attached error message. It doesn't matter if I click Cancel or click "Confirm Security Exception", I get the same result. The initial result is that I go into my new Thunderbird email account and all appears fine). But when I try to send an email, I get that same message again (altho with a different 3-digit number following imap.gmail.com) followed by a "message couldn't be sent" error message.

Hello,

I have several email accounts stored on a different internal hard drive, when I say stored I mean choosing a different location in the thunderbird account settings for each email to store the mail boxes, filter rules etc.

I sent my machine back in for repairs and long story short the OS drive ended up being wiped. From what I've seen, in order to import the email profiles which seem to be stored on the OS under approaming or something similar.

I'm struggling to find a way to import my existing accounts with what I have on my other drive. Any ideas on how I might be able to do this?

I recently converted from POP to IMAP. It appears old messages from POP were automatically migrated to the IMAP Local Folder, but how can I confirm that before I remove the old POP account? The conversion instructions said I needed to manually move the old messages, but they are already in the Local Folder.

At Christmas last year I made a complete back-up which came to 6.1Gb. This March my computer crashed and I had to re-install the operating system and all of its programs including Thunderbird. But the backup zip file (when extracted to a folder from the zip file) is in sqllite files, not profile or ics calendar formats. Thus the backup cannot be restored. How do I get Thunderbird to accept these types of files to import the address book, calendar and message filter?
