Calendar stops working after Thunderbird & Lightning updated to 68.4.1

Provider for Google Calendar - 68.2.1 Thunderbird & Lightning - 68.4.1 Windows 10 Home 1909 (18363.592)

Almost all of the commands dealing with the calendar in Thunderbird are grayed out. My Google and other calendars no longer show up as an entry in the list of calendars. Individual calendar entries appear on calendar tab with existing info but are read only. I can not open/edit an individual calendar entry or create a new one.

I used to be able to recover from this situation by closing the calendar in Thunderbird and then closing Thunderbird. Create new event or edit an existing event by logging into Google Calendar directly. Logoff Google Calendar and then logon to Thunderbird and either open the Today Pane or the Calendar tab.

I have reported the problem on the forum for the Provider and been told that my problem looks like it has to do with Thunderbird and Lightning. I have tried several of the suggestions on this forum but they have not resolved the problem. The best result was with Safe Mode & Add-ons Disabled which lasted for just one application restart after doing that. Any help would be appreciated.

Events are currently displayed in the calendar & Today Pane with the corresponding calendar color filling the event banner and the category color only showing as a small sliver on the right side of the banner. Is there a way to reverse this display? I would prefer the event banner to be the category color with the calendar color as a small sliver. Screenshots attached.

No calendar data showing after upgrade. calendar-data folder has local.sqlite which appears to be intact with all previous calendar info but nothing displays. I added a test event and it appears. The alert appears at the appropriate time but the alert cannot be dismissed. When I restart Thunderbird the calendar shows empty again but I can see that the new test event is present in local.sqlite. See error console below

Calendat sync btween TB and Google Calendar has ben fine until today, when I had error message ["403_rate limit exceeded. This app has reached its sign in rate fore now etc" - screen clip attached]

Google suggests it's a developer issue. If so, is it jus a question of time until it can be fixed?

I'm running TB 91.5.0, with no other issues - and apart from the error Google Calendar is fine too.

I'm getting an 'credentials not accepted' error when connecting my Google's universal contacts/birthday-calendar with CalDAV. This error occurred after upgrading Thunderbird to version 91.x.x in previous versions, maybe even an early version of 91.x.x I had no problem connecting the birthday calendar. All other (Google) calendars (also using CalDAV) work fine. I have this problem on two PC's both running Dutch Thunderbird 91-last version under Dutch Windows 10 Home-edition, also witl all the latest updates installed.

Steps to reproduce: Subscribe to the birthday calendar of my Google account. Note: As I'm using the Dutch localized versions, my translations can be different from the English menu-items.

Preparation in Google:

  • In your web-browser look up your Google 'Calendar-ID' (aka calid) which can be found in the online settings menu in Google calendar at: https://calendar.google.com/

Look for it in the 'Integrate calendar' section. (In Dutch: Zoek het Google 'Agenda-ID' op in het online 'Instellingen'-menu van Google agenda, te vinden onder de sectie: 'Agenda integreren'.);

in which <Calendar-ID> is your Google Calendar-ID in the steps below. More information at: https://developers.google.com/calendar/caldav/v2/guide

  • Note: Google's birthday calendars all have the same generic/universal 'Calendar-ID' and therefore URL. They are uniquely identified by the username (Gmail-address) logging in.

Steps in thunderbird for adding the BIRTHDAY calendar:

  1. Create new calendar;
  2. Select 'On the network', next;
  3. Input:
  1. Click: 'Search calendar' and provide your password when asked.

Actual results: The screen returns with an 'credentials not accepted' error. Not connecting to the birthday calendar. (The error in Dutch: 'De ingevoerde referenties werden niet geaccepteerd. Controleer uw instellingen'.) Screenshot included.

Expected results: Connecting my birthday calendar in Thunderbird.

What I did/also tried:

  • I removed all my Google calendars and had no issue reconnecting them again. Except for the birthday-calendar;
  • I tried to put the birthday-calendar in read only mode by adding '.readonly' at the end of the URL. See the links provided in the preparation;
  • Turned off all my addons with no effect;
  • I reinstalled Thunderbird on one of my PC's, actually I reinstalled the full PC. Without result;
  • Posted bug ID 1746395 without result.

I checked.. * Questions:

* Bugs:

  • 1682177 connecting to two birthday calendars;
  • 1735525 connecting to a calendar shared with a Google account in Google itself;
  • 1737414 connecting to a Google calendar using a Google account without Gmail.

So I'm hoping anyone here can help. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Since I made a fresh install of Debian 10 (coming from Ubuntu 18.04), I experiment two problems with my computer, unfortunately both linked to Mozilla... - Often, Firefox crashes on startup (that's not the subject, but in can someone read here...). - In Thunderbird, when I wan to convert an email to Event or Task, it takes ages. All the rest is working fine, creating event, modifying events... Only the convert email to event/task.

I have tried to disable all plugins but Lightning, the problem remain.

I have Thunderbird 68.8.0 (64bits) Lightning 68.7.0

I had a problem with my Thunderbird/Davmail messaging. Eventually, I deleted it from the system and started again with a download of the latest version. Only then did I realise the risk and was relieved to find that tagged emails and all local folders are still there. There is good instruction for getting the calendar back. However, when I get to the add-ons Manager, Lightning is not listed. I have not found any option of getting Lightning anew.

Also, my address book is empty.

Thank you so much for any pointers, Ulrike

I got a new computer (Windows 10) and downloaded TB 78.0.1. I went to add the calendars from Gmail accounts, but the process for doing so appears to have changed. Search results in Help and via Google refer to earlier TB versions.

To add a network calendar on a network, it must be in either iCalendar or CalDAV format. A location is then required. Old instructions indicate that my email address should be added here, but the system said it was a bad location.

How do I add my calendars?

What is the best application to replace Thunderbird and Thunderbird Calendar. I have loved Thunderbird dearly. The way I can get emails from multiple account including Gmail is magic. Calendar was indispensable to me. However the loss of Calendar Tweeks to colorize events is too much for me.

I have supported Thunderbird with a yearly $100 donation. I hate the Google / Apple / MS outlook alternatives , they all rape your privacy.

All I really need is for Event/Categories to color the entire event instead of a small bit at the right.

Please let me know your opinions.

Since my Thunderbird updated to 91.2.1 today, provider for google calander (91.0.2) asked me to log in to google account again but returns Error 403: rate_limit_exceeded.

I'm also really annoyed that somehow automatic updates have been switched on without me knowing. I've had them disabled for ages and was getting prompts to update. If I'd have know a major change was coming, and been prompted, I'd have waited.

I am facing three problems: 1. I cannot edit entries in my calendar, even though the read only box is unchecked in Calendar Properties. 2. I cannot change the location of my calendar in Location in Calendar Properties. Right now it is saying it is Home.csv even though my calendar is stored in Home.ics (see attached image). 3. no calendar reminders are showing up even though "show the reminder dialogue box" and "show missed reminders for writeable calendars" are checked under Calendar preferences (see attached image).

I am running Thunderbird 91.5.1 on a Wiindows 10 desktop.

Any guidance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated

I have TB 60 on a Mac with OS 10.9. Every morning when I wake the computer, Calendar automatically updates to show the day and date for the new day. I have TB 68 on another Mac with OS 10.15. Calendar never automatically updates to show the day and date for the new day. It's not a big deal, but, at my age, it's nice to have an accurate display because sometimes I do forget the day and/or date, and I have to remember to manually update the Calendar display. Thanks for any feedback.
