Thunderbird had been working perfectly for years under Mac OSX 10.13.6 (High Sierra) until this morning. Now attempts to start it result in an error message "You can't use this version of the application 'Thunderbird_78_10_0.app' with this version of MacOS. You have MacOS 10.13.6. The application requires MacOS 10.15 or later." The app shows a modified date of July 12, 2024, i.e., this morning and a size of 434.7MB. Perhaps it auto updated itself without checking that the update was compatible with the environment? Any suggestions about how to reverse that update or otherwise fix the problem would be appreciated!!! Garth Fletcher

Cox just transferred all customers' email systems to Yahoo. After my e-mails were transferred to Yahoo, Yahoo tried to help me when I was getting error messages saying that log in to server smtp.mail.yahoo.com with my user name (my e-mail address) failed. The Yahoo rep told me that my problem is that "Whenever the generated app password from Yahoo is entered, sending emails works, but it only stays like that until the computer gets restarted. The app password is not saved." The rep told me that many Thunderbird users who had their email systems transferred to Yahoo are having the same problem. Has anyone had this problem and been able to resolve this problem? Thank you! Cyd

Have thunderbird reindex mailboxes instead of compacting

I'm running Thunderbird 115.12.0 64-bit on Ubuntu 22.04. I recently had a hard drive crash. I've had to put together my email data from two separate backups to restore everything. The problem is I reorganized the mailbox folders between the backups, so the metadata thunderbird maintains about the data storage will be wrong in my new setup. I have my imap and pop mailboxes restored correctly now under my profile storage and would like Thunderbird to just leave them alone. The problem is, every time I start thunderbird, it automatically wants to compact my mailboxes and free up 5.7 GB of space, which means it will delete some of the newly copied emails it doesn't recognize.

Is there a way to tell thunderbird to start over and reindex the mailboxes that are there? I've tried deleting the global-messages-db.sqlite file, but that does not fix the problem. This is a common problem as I've had it happen in the past as well when reorganizing the folder structure. It seems there should be a way to tell thunderbird to reset its indexes and leave the mailboxes as-is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Today I changed my Google password, and now I can't login via Thunderbird to get email.

On startup, I am prompted with the Google login screen, which asks for my email or phone. I click Next, and get the message

   400. That’s an error.
The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know.

I'm using Thunderbird 115.10.1 (64-bit) on MacOS Sonoma 14.5.

I have contacted you previously and tried all the suggestions to solve my problem. None of them seemed to work. The issue only arose after a recent update to Thunderbird. I was pointed in the direction of my service provider. They confirmed nothing had changed their end. I created an email account in Microsoft Outlook. I can send and receive emails via my service provided. I have to assume the problem I am having is with Thunderbird. Before I leave Thunderbird for pastures new, do you have any suggestions? Bill

My "Write" screen has suddenly become useless. It will not show any toolbars, including the Composition bar. So no Send button, no sending. Even the formatting bar below the subject line is grayed out and inert. Looks like this is a longtime failing. I tried solutions offered in earlier threads and none helped. Pressing Alt on the keyboard does not produce a temporary Menu Bar. Help!

Hi, Recently Kaspersky antivirus (Premium) started picking up potential threats. It points to files in C: users\lther\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles\tzldd93i.default\mail\pop3.iafrica.com\sent....

I have deleted the files in Thunderbird under sent files, but they still get picked up by Kaspersky. There is no option to delete them in Kaspersky, only to exclude or ignore. I do not want to manually delete all sent files, I cannot see the individual files in windows (win 10) anyway.

Is there a way to fix this. Kaspersky support have tried but no success.

Thunderbird 115.12.1 running on Windows 11 in S mode. Working fine for several months, until today my wife clicked on a particular message, then Thunderbird hung, displaying a tab with "Loading" and the path to the inbox and message, and not responding to any user actions. Killing Thunderbird and restarting results in the same situation. Thunderbird is trying to start up where it was when it was killed. It appears that something in the message causes this problem. I have tried the following:

  • Tried to clear the startup cache, which I am able to access by bringing up the "Write new message" window. However this action starts the main Thunderbird window, which immediately hangs. Also tried starting in Troubleshooting mode, with the same result.
  • I tried to navigate to the Inbox in Explorer, hoping to delete the offending message. But under AppData/Roaming, I saw only two folders (Adobe and Microsoft), but no Thunderbird folder. I made sure to unhide hidden files in the Roaming folder, but it did not help. I also tried this as the user (me) who set up the system and is presumably more privileged but that did not help. I am not knowledgeable enough about Windows 11 security to know how to overcome this. It seems like some kind of super-hiding that only Thunderbird can get through ??

I can try deinstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird but would like to get some thoughts on this before I go that route.

Thanks
