Why is is so OK for mozilla thunderbird to discriminate against anyone because there is no choice of size of font in most emails and all screens? I am no longer able to add coding, maybe 40 years ago, but due to my disabilities I am no longer able to.

Hi all I updated my Thunderbird yesterday to 91.2 (32 bit). My computer is a 64 bit, if this matters.

I'm on the release channel, and have never had an issue like this before, in nearly 20 years of Thunderbird use.

When I want to write an email, I type the first couple of letters of the addressee into the To line. The box is surrounded with a dark highlight, and I cannot type more than 4 characters into the box... No autoprompts appear, and then nothing happens, and Thunderbird activity is suspended as (not responding)....

So I tried a different tack, by replying to an email. This is fine, but I cannot add another addressee, in any of the To; CC; BCC boxes. Same scenario, 3 or 4 characters, no autoprompts, thunderbird freezes.

So I tried another tack. I replied to a message, typed out my reply, without adding anybody else, and hit send. All seems to go well, and it looks like its sending, then a message pops up, Assembling Message - Done, with a blue progress line at 100%, a cancel button underneath, and a similar message in the bottom LH segment of the pane of the message itself. However, the message doesn't disappear, and the mail doesn't go. If I press cancel, the message disappears, but SEND, SPELLING and SAVE buttons are greyed out.

Eventually I get a message saying Thunderbird has a problem, do I want to close the program or wait for it to respond. After waiting nearly six hours yesterday, I now just click Close the program.

I run 6 different email accounts in my Thunderbird, and have done for years. I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 (very reluctant to upgrade to 11, even though I keep getting the prompts.)

I'm running an HP Pavilion with a core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.

We are running Office 365 as our mail provider (I dislike it) but I run Libre Office rather than Microsoft products.

Aaah. Just remembered - every time I open Thunderbird now, every folder and subfolder opens very irritating, as there are literally tens of sub-folders in some areas.

I've upgraded to Thunderbird ver. 91.2 and now whenever I return an email the send button is greyed out. Then when I attempt to write an email the send button is highlighted but clicking on it does nothing.

Emails are recieved OK.

I have checked with other email clients (Apple iOS) and they work well and there have been no changes to the SMTP server or password settings.

This is the first time I've experienced a problem with an upgrade in the last 10+ years!!!

Can someone advise a solution?

Regards Frank

Suddenly, ever since today, maybe yesterday, I don't recognize the display that I'm seeing when I open Thunderbird. It's some odd tab-like display (see attached example of what I see when I open TBird now), and I end up resorting to clicking the first tab, which usually has Sent or Inbox, something familiar. What am I seeing? I love TBird when everything looks familiar, but when suddenly I'm not seeing what I expect, I am just lost.

Also, suddenly today, pretty sure today, not yesterday, when I double-click PDF attachments in emails I had sent, the PDF doesn't open, from what I can tell. When I then tried an MS Word attachment, that attachment opened fine. To try to solve this PDF-attachment-opening problem, I went into my Windows 10 PC's Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program > Choose default apps by file type ..... and then saw that the .pdf line item surprisingly said pdfs would open using "MICROSOFT EDGE" instead of what I would have expected to be either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, since PDFs were opening fine in TBird some version of Acrobat before today. I then changed the .pdf line item from MICROSOFT EDGE to ADOBE ACROBAT.

But, still, when I double-click a PDF attachment in a Sent email, nothing seems to happen.

I then restarted my PC.

And, in Thunderbird, I opened the Sent folder and right-clicked it, selected Properties, and clicked Repair.

But, still, when I double-click a PDF attachment in a Sent email, nothing seems to happen.

This probably isn't relevant, but . . . a week or two ago, I finally looked into the annoying behavior of PDFs ending up *downloading* instead of resulting in a dialog box that let me do a Save in Adobe Acrobat or Save in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC -- I forget how to exactly describe what was going on . ... but I had gone through some steps that actually succeeded in giving me the dialog box.

Any insights on how to solve these two likely-not-related problems, step by step, I'd appreciate it!

For some unknown reason, I can no longer send emails via Thunderbird. I can receive them just fine.

I am attaching a screen image of the two messages that pops up. The shorter one is first.

The larger message says "certificate belongs to a different site"

I am not a technical person. I did a chat with my email provider (Register.com). They said it was not their problem.

Any help appreciated.

You updated Thunderbird to 91.2.0 a few days ago. I didn't notice anything wrong until I tried to answer an email this morning and it wouldn't send. (I am receiving emails fine.) I tried various things like turning off firewalls and antivirus. A few times I thought it would send but it didn't. That is, the grey "send" button turned black but then it wouldn't send. I have various emails on different servers, including Comcast and Gmail, but nothing worked. Sending directly from the Comcast website works fine, or from my iphone. So it seems very unstable right now, and I need to send emails.

The other problem is the Address Book. I have always LOVED Thunderbird's address books because I have a lot of them and can easily see who is on which one and add new names to them. But today the list kept changing and I had trouble adding a name.

HELP! I want my old Thunderbird back. VERY UPSET!

The problem is pretty straightforward. Thunderbird downloaded (almost) everything fine and retrieves new mail as expected. It won't download anything before 7/5/2009 while Gmail has messages going back to 2004. How can I make Thunderbird download those older messages?

With the recent update of Thunderbird to 91.2.0, I can no longer send emails.

I do not have saved passwords in Thunderbird. For all past versions of Thunderbird, I would be prompted for a password on send the first time I sent a message after opening the application.

I am now never prompted for a password and I get the following error message after canceling out of the never-ending "sending" notification: "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.xxxxxx.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'"

I have tried all of the steps in the Thunderbird online help on this topic, and have checked with my email provider, who states that they have made no changes on their end. I suspect that this is a bug in Thunderbird 91.2.0, where a password is never requested on send.

Hi, One of our clients upgraded from v48 - v92 in Thunderbird due to certificate issues. One of the users is getting the attached image when trying to forward emails. It doesn't happen every time but is happening frequently, every 3-5 sends. When it fails it usually sends the second try. While it does send eventually it is a nuisance. During my testing we sent 3 with no issues then had 3 failures in a row.

Is this a bug and how do we fix?

I like the new tiny red icon within my Windows 7 taskbar Thunderbird icon which shows me when I've got new mail and how many. But there is a problem with getting the icon to change after I read the emails.

I use a lot of mail filters, and some of them send emails to completely different folders. But even when I go to those folders and read the emails transferred to them, the little taskbar new mail bubble icon does not go away unless I *also* click on the *original* email account folder in which the message first arrived. So I end up having to constantly manually click on these folders to make the bubble icon go away.

It would be great if you could fix this bug in the next update.

I have three emails accounts. Three work and one doesn't. I click on the inbox in the account that does not work and Thunderbird goes into endless loop. No error messages. No received messages. I use another computer and I get messages. I looked at the saved password file and the working emails accounts have a imap entry and a matching SMTP entry. The non working account does mot have a imap entry. There seems to be no way to enter the imap entry. I have removed the password for the bad account, but the program never get far enough to ask for a password. The program worked for years now it doesn't.

Thunderbird 91.2 on Mac - Have to click "Do not use alt text' every time I enter image properties - Can't default to this setting

Thunderbird 91.2 on Mac. I think this is OS 10.12.6 (not at that computer right now to verify).

This is my 89 year old mother-in-laws computer. Every day she sends several emails each with a series of images to a few friends. The images are dragged into a new email window and added in-line in the body of the email. She then double-clicks each image and changes the dimension to a specified number of pixels for the width so each image is the same width in the email.

She has done this for many years without any problems. Last week Thunderbird updated to 91.2 (not sure what the previous version was). Now, when she double-clicks an in-line image and changes the size she gets an Alert about missing alternate text. When closing the alert message, she is returned to the email composition window but cannot edit anything in the email. Under the Windows(?) menu (I'm working from memory here), it shows the Inbox, the new email composition window, and Image Properties. It seems the properties is hanging open after the Alert about missing alternate text and not allow her to do anything with the email composition window. If you try clicking "Image Properties" from the Windows menu, nothing comes up so you can't simply bring this forward and close it. The only way out of this is to close Thunderbird and discard changes in the new email.

Aside from the Image Properties hanging after the Alert, after adding multiple images in-line she will double-click the first image to get Image Properties. Now, she has to click "Don't use alt text" then click the tab for Dimensions and set the dimension she wants. After closing the Image Properties, she repeats the process with the 2nd image in which case the Image Properties are defaulted back to "Use alt text" so she again has to click "Don't use alt text". "Don't use alt text" has to be selected for each image when she changes the dimension or she gets the alert which then causes the program to hang as described above.

Previous to the update to 91.2, she never had to click the check box for "Use alt text". Maybe this was clicked a long time ago and the program remembered this setting for new images added. I submitted this on bugzilla and was told: If you choose "don't use alternative text" (or not) it will remember your last choice.

In this case, Thunderbird is not remembering the last choice.

I realize the need for alt text, however these emails are only being sent to a few friends who know what they are receiving and will show images if not displayed be default.

I tried "Help > Troubleshoot Mode" to restart Thunderbird without plugins/extension and had the same result. I don't think there are any additional plugins or extensions added anyway. I also used "Help > Troubleshoot Mode" to disable these items permanently just in case.

I also used the profile manager to create a new profile thinking maybe something in her profile was messed up. Opened Thunderbird with only the new profile and the same result where you have to click "Don't use alt text" each time you go to Image Properties or the Alter about missing alt text comes up and the program hangs (on the presumed Image Properties not closing correctly). The "Don't use alt text" setting isn't remembered from the previous setting as I was told it should do.

Is there something that can be added to the prefs.js file to default the alt text setting to "Don't use alt text" or is there some other reason this setting isn't being remembered after it is selected?

Or is there something else that can be done to get this feature to work as I was told it should (it should remember the last setting)?

My mother-in-law has memory issues so adding something new to the routine can be a problem sometimes. If she forgets to click "Don't use alt text" and someone isn't there to help her out of it, she will spend 20 minutes wondering why she can't edit the size of the next image or send the email (because it is locked up due to the bug/error with the missing alt text alert) then she doesn't know how to get out of this.

I welcome any input on how to resolve the problem of having to click "Use alt text" every time. For her use, we would like to be able to default the setting to always set "Don't use alt text" for any image she adds in-line.

Thanks.

I upgraded from 78.14 to 91.2.0 today. I am no longer able to Send email. My address book is also blank, but I continue to get auto-completion options when entering text into the "To" field. The error console displays the following when text is entered into the "To" field.

After an address and subject and content are entered, clicking the Send button has no effect, in the application or the error console. I've seen other posts about send and address book issues with 91.2, but their error messages are different from what I'm seeing. Thank you!
