Steps to reproduce:

1. Using Betterbird/Thunderbird 128.9.2esr-bb25 (64-bit), navigate to "Address Book"

2. Using "Address Book" "List display options". Type in any phone number

3. No result are display. This is the challenge. The needed end result is to search all Phone Number field for all contacts. Including any additional "Phone Number" field per contact if any. For example, but not limited to, "Phone Number 1", "Phone Number 2", "Fax Number", etc.

Using this on device 1:

• Betterbird/Thunderbird 128.9.2esr-bb25 (64-bit) from Arch Linux repository

• Arch Linux latest version

• KDE Plasma latest version

Using this on device 2:

• Betterbird/Thunderbird 128.9.2esr-bb25 (64-bit) from https://flathub.org/apps/eu.betterbird.Betterbird

• Debian Bookworm 12

• GNOME 43.9

What I tried that did not work:

• Add-on "Contact Tabs" does not support Betterbird/Thunderbird 128 at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/contact-tabs/

How do I set up a mailing list in this latest version of Thunderbird? In the past I was able to group people in my address book into various groups and then mass mail to a given group (mailing list).

I recently bought a new computer w/ Windows 11, installed Thunderbird just fine; but, I am unable to establish my previous groups/mailing lists.

Does anyone know of a way to doe this? I have looked at the help section on this, but its help advice is dated 2015 and applies to a much older version of Thunderbird. There is no "Address book > new> mailing group" option in this latest version of the program that I can find.

Used Thunderbird for years on Windows, then migrated to new Apple laptop (Mac Air M4 w/ Sequoia 15.6). After much effort and searching on-line support was able to successfully install my old profile from my Windows backup H/D. This restored all my emails and calendar. However, was not able to invoke my address book from within a new message, as in Windows version of Thunderbird. The address book files, Abook.mab & history.mab, are in my new MacOS Thunderbird library. There doesn't seem to be any way from the Thunderbird top menu to bring up the address book except by starting a new contact File->new->Address Book Contact. Am I missing something? Is this just a difference in the way Thunderbird was implemented for the different platforms? By design? I see references in the Support pages about "integration" of the address book under MacOS and ask whether this implies some sort of interaction/merging with the built-in Apple contacts.app but the only evidence I see of this is when the Address book is open, a new address book "Mac OS X address book" is available. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

Recently upgraded my Dell computer with Ubuntu 22.04, and with that, upgraded Thunderbird to version 128.6. Since then (a couple of weeks!) I've been struggling to re-create something that I've been using since I started using T'bird about fifteen or twenty years ago, back when T'bird versions were in the low two digits in fact.

Until this new version, I was able to create a *GROUP* entry in the address book, one name (call it "Family", say), add multiple names & addresses, and save it under that name. Time to contact Family, I'd type that word into the TO field, T'bird would call up ALL the addresses I had entered into that Address Book entry, and I'd be able to send to everybody with a single Send command.

Not anymore! Now it's Nope, Can't Do.

How do I get that feature in this new version 128.6? Step by step, please. I've not been able to find this info on this forum --- the new format of which I admittedly find pretty confusing.

My contacts are a hot mess. For fear of destruction, I have not done any housekeeping. I feel like in past, my elementary trial and error tests have yielded inconsistent results. (It could be my brain that yields inconsistent results.) e.g. Add or delete a test contact on either side, seems to end up confusing me more! I'd love to read about sync priorities or settings yet seems like all I can find is Q&A forums or a download for a printable PDF that is reputedly maybe out of date...

☺Is there a basic, extended primer on how address books and syncing work with TB?

My: "Personal Address Book" has 9K+ entries, yet the google contacts that seems to reside in "Address Book" has only 4K+, which matches my contacts on google site.

I want to begin the arduous process of deleting "duplicates", many of which seem to be not really identical, and I need to ascertain what is current...

But where to start? My fear is if I go to contacts.google.com and do a ton of culling, that at the next sync everything that I deleted will be restored by TB.

Another concern is android syncing to google but I suppose that's another forum. I use Bluemail currently...I just got used to it. I think I finally got past the issues with "phone storage" vs "Google storage" and then I finally realized that linking my phone to 2 separate google accounts wasn't helping.☺

Should I switch to Thunderbird Mobile? Does it sync nicely with android/google? Is every different phone going to behave differently?

TIA and forgive my ignorance.

Recently, I needed to do a major upgrade to Fedora 43 so I did a full backup first for safety. After the upgrade, I needed to install Thunderbird to recover access to my email. For the first time in over 20 years, I had to re-enter the data for my various email accounts and now I find that my address book is gone. How can I locate the proper files in my backup and restore them while Thunderbird isn't running?

Good afternoon Thunderbird Help Community,

My Inbox in Thunderbird has always allowed me to add an email address for an incoming email sender and then edit that address as was best for organizing the mailbox.

So, for example, this email address:

Bobby Jersey <BobbyJersey@garwoodsecurities.net> does not allow me to add it to my Address book or edit the name to be for example BROKER-GWS Bobby Jersey vs. the full name and email address spelled out.

On the other hand, an email received from another sender Rui Amorim <rui.amorim@chase.com> could be added and edited from Amorim, Rui to Rui Amorim.

I don't understand how to fix this and why it seems so random as to which addresses are accepted and which not.

Thanks for any help to clarify what should be done to fix this.

Thunderbird inbox shows wrong sender name for message, overriding what the person actually sent with something from its data base. Attached screen shots illustrate:

-- Message is sent from [email]@earthlink.net. This was a joint account for a married couple. When they sent messages, each would have their Email client show the name of the sender. The husband died several years ago, and now the wife is the only one using the account.

-- Screen Shot #1: When I access the message via Thunderbird, for some reason it overrides the name provided by the sender with something from its data base (in this case, the name of the dead husband).

-- Screen Shot #2: When I access the message directly from Gmail, it shows the correct sender name.

This seems to me to be a bug. But if it's not, is there some parameter I can set so that Thunderbird doesn't "help" me with overrides like this?

Thanks for any help anybody can offer.

I just installed Thunderbird on a new computer. I hadn't used Thunderbird in some time. I can't seem to add ANY remote address books. There is an option to add an address book account. When I click on it, I get a dialogue box which lists several options which get highlighted whenever I mouse over then, however, when I click on ANY of the options, nothing happens.

How, then, can I add a CardDav address book to this?

Is this an uninstall and reinstall (Thunderbird that is) situation?
