On January 21st 2025 I changed my Spectrum account password. Almost immediately Thunderbird could not log into the spectrum maintained "mail.twc.com" server. When I called Spectrum support I was told the old Spectrum use of separate passwords for SMTP and IMAP was changed to use the same password as the spectrum web page which is now the same for all spectrum logins, a "one password to rule them all" scheme in November 2024. I changed the passwords in Thunderbird for IMAP and SMTP, but it still will not connect. If I do an auto populate attempt, the server actually responds with the correct setting so I know I am reaching the server. After five days trying to resolve the issue with Spectrum I was told this is a know issue with Thunderbird and it is not the server but the third party application. It is bad enough they reconfigure things like this without disclosing it. It baffles me that the changes they claim were made in November 2024 only make themselves known when the service stops working nearly three months after the change and only when I changed the web site password. Anyone know how to solve this? Thank you so much in advance.

July 2024 - Thunderbird is demanding that I change my Hotmail password, after long trouble -free operation. It will not login. Why? (I have not changed the PW yet, hoping for a solution that will avoid the necessity.) I fear that it may be due to some fault in OAuth. Can anyone please provide any help to overcome this problem? Totally confused here. Thunderbird wants me to use my current email (a gmail account) which I do not want. I thought by getting Thunderbird I could just create a brand new email (No, I do not want to buy a domain name!) and do something like blah-blah.blah@thunderbird.com. Looks like I was completely mislead by an article on doing what I really need.

If I have to use my current gmail address, then what is the point of getting Thundebird?

If I cannot do what I need on Thunderbird, I want my donation back. Anyone know how I can do that? I can't find an answer to that anywhere.

Sorry if I sound snarky here. It's because of my highly increased level of frustration. Thank you for your time, and any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. I have 4 accounts that have all been set up and working fine. This morning the 2 yahoo.com accounts stopped working. I logged in to the impacted accounts using a web browser and password just fine. I then updated Thunderbird to 116.0 to see if that would fix the problem, but it did not. The outlook and gmail accounts are working fine, for now.

When Thunderbird attempts to download mail for the yahoo accounts, I get a large pop-up window with "Edge: Too Many Requests". The pop-up window is blank except for that error message. I get the small pop-up with the Authentication Failure message. Sometimes I get Retry, Enter Password or Cancel. But I never see a window that will allow me to enter my password.

I can send/receive mail from the accounts while logged in via a browser but authentication fails within Thunderbird.

I get a message like this every time I start Thunderbird. The topic came up last year but the conclusion was along the lines of "...this problem will be fixed in version 128" but it was never clear whether or not the User followed Mozilla's support replies or what they had to do to clear the email message from Thunderbird. .....Well I'm running version 128.1.1esr and the problem still exists.

My questions:

1. What is Thunderbird trying to do? Compact individual email files? Compae from ct the whole Thunderbird Profiles folder?

2. Is the problem the size of the Profiles folder or the overall size of the hard drive the Profiles folder resides on? What is the Hard/solidstate drive is the maximum?

3. Is the problem related to the amount of Free Space left on the Hard/solidstate drive or is the issue the number of individual files?

4. Is the issue related to the number of Thunderbird files and/or folders OR is it related to the total number of files and/or folders on the hard drive?

5. Is there a limit to the number of sub-folder levels that Thunderbird can navigate?

Thank you.

Tom

I've been running Thunderbird for years on Gentoo which has version 115.10.1 as the most recent. I don't send much mail so I'm not exactly sure when this problem occurred, but I'm unable to authenticate with my SMTP server. I have not changed any configuration. Some weeks ago a changed my password on the server, but I made the appropriate changes to Thunderbird password manager. All settings, username and passwords are 100% correct as I copy pasted all of them. IMAP on the same server (uses same credentials) works.

I have tried deleting and re-adding my accounts which did not help. I have also tried deleting my profile folder. All other mail clients (e.g. claws-mail, kmail, mailspring) with the same SMTP server don't have any problems sending mail. This problem seems to only affect Thunderbird and Thunderbird forks such as Betterbird.

I have no firewall and am using SSL authentication with cleartext password on the SMTP server.

I get the following output to console on attempted sending of message:

console.error: (new Error("Server error 503 Service Unavailable", "resource://services-settings/Utils.sys.mjs", 390)) console.error: mailnews.smtp: "Command failed: 535 Incorrect authentication data; currentAction=_actionAUTHComplete" console.error: mailnews.smtp: "Authentication failed: Incorrect authentication data" console.error: mailnews.smtp: "Authentication failed: Incorrect authentication data" console.error: mailnews.send: "Sending failed; Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.kapsi.fi. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'., exitCode=2153066805, originalMsgURI="

After Thunderbird just updated to Version 128.5.0esr today, now all my accounts are saying that the connection is refused. This is coming from three different email services that I have accounts on. I'm assuming it's not an issue with those servers as I can access them just fine with a different email client, and I didn't change any settings. Yesterday it worked, today it doesn't. Only thing that seems to have changed is Thunderbird got updated.

On my workstation the Thunderbird e-mail data is saved in the C:\Users\[My Name]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird... directory.

The data consumes considerable hard drive space and I would like to create a directory on my F: drive (that has 100+GB of data free) to "off-drive" the data. If it's even possible, how do I configure Thunderbird to use this different data directory on a different drive??

BTW, I tried to do this by copying the data/profile in the above C: drive directory to my F: drive. I changed the "Local Directory" setting in the "Message Storage" pane on the "Server Settings" window in the "Account Settings" appropriately. I even changed the path in the profiles.ini file in the default C: directory. This process didn't work and resulted in Thunderbird demanding that I create a new account. All returned to normal when I copied the Thunderbird data to its original location.

When I right click on a document [Show More Options/Send To] Thunderbird email I get the following notice: There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs panel. I've been using TB for multiple years with zero problems, this started when I recently reloaded Windows 11 from scratch (due to a bot virus issue). I have reloaded TB 3 or 4 times. I have also tried creating an association to MapiMail which hosed my Send To link. I had to import a new Send To link from my wifes PC after restoring the registry entry for MapiMail. I have always used the 64 bit version, so the 32 bit version is not for me. I am out of ideas? Anybody else have this problem?

My Sent folder disappeared. How do I restore the folder with the sent messages still intact. Or, at the least, just restore an empty Sent folder. The In-Box, Drafts, and Trash are still there.

All the settings are correct, and it seems that because there's no Sent folder I cannot send an email. When I try to send a message I get the attached Error.

My local phone company routes email through Yahoo Mail, then to Thunderbird. It was all working fine until my Sent folder disappeared. Now because of the missing Sent folder I have to create the email message in Thunderbird saving it in Drafts so I have a record. Then, I have to copy it and send it from Yahoo Mail. Needless to say this is a pain in the you know what.

Can someone please provide the instructions to get my Sent folder back?

Thanks,

Tess

Hello and THANK YOU for Thunderbird and I am looking so forward to getting off Outlook! I am about 4/5 way through setting it up on my desktop.

I currently keep my calendar on Outlook. I have been able to import my folders, contacts and mail, but when I go to import the Calendar, the box on import cannot be selected. Is there something else that I need to do to bring over my calendar? Did I miss step when I did the initial set up?

If I mark a message as Unread, it appears in the list of messages in boldface type. But I am finding it very hard to distinguish those in bold from other messages that have been read and are not bold. Is there anything in advanced settings that would allow me to change the fill colour in the listing box, or perhaps the colour of the type, in order to distinguish unread messages more visibly from those I have read? Thanks!
