Hello,

I'm using Thunderbird for my private and company e-mails (different companies). I need to pay close attention to selecting the right names as the auto suggest for recipients isn't using the context of the current account. Is there a plugin or setting I've missed that considers the context of composing a mail and priorities collected e-mails from the respective account or recent conversations for example? Good example is the Gmail auto complete, that has a good suggestion ranking.

Best I could find was options to sync with Google Mail contacts, but that would require to maintain a list of contacts in Google Mail, which I don't do.

Best, Elmar

I turned off junk mail filtering and am glad I did. I don't get that much junk, and so I just mark it all in the inbox. What I don't have to do now is restore all the messages from a couple of listserves I'm on that Thunderbird insists on moving to junk - not every mail from these listerves, just some. There is nothing weird in the subject, I have the addresses in my address book, I'm constantly marking them as not junk, and it still insists on sending them to junk - sometimes.

But why doesn't it work properly? Why is it so wrong so much of the time?

Hello,

I do most of my work on a 13" laptop, and I've recently installed Thunderbird to replace Windows Mail before it goes away. One of the things I loved about Mail is that it's very easy to read. Each column is scalable, and the text is well-prioritized and large enough to clearly see the sender's name and read the subject line. In Thunderbird, there's so much on my screen--all at about the same size and color--that I'm having trouble parsing the information, especially when trying to refer back to messages marked as read.

I know I can scale columns to adjust the width, but that doesn't increase the text size. I don't need or want to see 11 messages at once; there's simply too much information in each little box, all displayed at the same priority level, that it creates a wall of text that feels overwhelming, especially when I'm flipping between multiple client projects throughout the day. (Also, a side note: I have text set to 16pt, but it's displaying at 6 or 7, tops.)

My questions are these:

1. How do I enlarge the contents of the left and center columns so I can read them more easily on a small screen? I don't need to see 11 messages at once. Three or four is fine.

2. How do I flip the priority so the sender is bold and the subject is smaller or a lighter grey? I freelance for multiple clients, so it's more important for me to know who a message is from than what it's about (knowing the former usually answers the latter).

3. Is there a way to make the date and time smaller and lighter, especially for read messages? These are fourth-level priority items, but they're depicted on my screen with the same priority as everything else in every box in every column on my entire screen.

4. How do I stop Thunderbird from downloading every message I've ever received without disappearing them into a secret archive? It's downloading messages from 2018 that I'd like to keep on my mail server and see at a glance when logged directly into that service, but not see in my daily Thunderbird inbox.

5. How do I make Thunderbird show me ALL received messages in a thread when I select the drop down arrow from the center column? Right now, I have a thread with 6 messages from 3 people, but the 4 most recent messages (the ones I need) are only visible if I scroll down to the bottom of the right-hand pane. I'm sure there's a reason for hiding the 4 most recent messages, but that's too much guesswork for me. If Thunderbird can only display 3 messages in a thread, then how do I set it so that it shows the 3 most recent, not the 3 oldest?

I know this is a long message, and I apologize for that, but I've searched for answers before coming here and couldn't find what I needed.

Thanks in advance for the help!

As 99% of users hate threading, myself included, why don't you just change the default to no threading?

I have looked at a lot of the answers to previous questions on this subject and none of them work. One has a supposed video to help but that relates to Gmail and is not understandable. Perhaps you want us to all use Gmail. I have looked the article "Message threading in Thunderbird - keep messages grouped by conversation" but that is useless and the suggested method of stopping threading doesn't work.

Please change the default!!

After upgrading to SuperNova on my MacBook Pro, the Mail Merge function no longer is available under "File". I looked under Tools to see if I needed to reinstall the Mail Merge Add On, and the Add On feature is also missing.

I found a discussion where someone said to download some debugging file, and to do that, you had to look under the options (three vertical dots) next to the Unified Folders Inbox. However, my Unified Folder Inbox does not have three vertical dots.

Holding emails that need to go out to multiple recipients. )-:

Good afternoon,

I recently installed Thunderbird, and it worked fine for a little while. More recently, I have been having problems with it. One of them I was able to fix after some research and trial-and-error (which was Thunderbird not letting me log into my Comcast/Xfinity email account), but this second issue is confusing. I had to remove the account to get back into it (during the first issue), so I'm guessing that must have caused this (second) problem?

When I went to check my filters/rules today (since I receive significant amounts of spam), I was shocked to see that my filters list was empty (I had about 30 or so filters in place before the first issue occurred). I'm guessing there's no way for me to get these back, and so I'll have to manually reinstate each filter "by hand"?

If there is any way to do this more easily, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time!!

Hello,

i'm currently trying to set the font 'Aptos' in thunderbird 115.9.0 to the default font for writing e-mails.

I do know that there is an option to configure this under 'settings -> writing -> html-options -> font' but when i try to change this i seem unable to find the font Aptos in this list. I do however have other programs installed on my computer, that already use this font. How can i get and set this specific font in thunderbird?

Some email clients allow the user to change the subject line on an incomng email. I had a client where I could edit the subject line and then store the email in another directory. Changing the subject line allowed for a better way to find the email later on as one can change the text to something understandable and easier to seach for. Can this be done in Thunderbird or is this for the wish list? Cheers Bob

I really can't get my head around fonts in Thunderbird.

1. Can I use Verdana? It's not shown in any lists 2. No idea which options do what, when I click on "Advanced" I have no clue what all the fields mean 3. I tried my best, read this page - https://kb.mozillazine.org/Font_settings_in_Thunderbird - but what is it talking about? "Tools>Options"... that doesn't exist in my Thunderbird!

Grateful if someone could explain how it works. Specifically, I'd like to know (as the article above purports to explain) how to adjust fonts used when reading incoming mail, html and plaintext separately as I'd like to have those fonts noticeably different.

thanks

If there's an easy answer to my problem I haven't been able to find it on the Thunderbird support site. Or anywhere else! All I want to do is move my email accounts in the folder pane up and down. Apparently there is an app to do this but it is not compatible with the newer TB version that I have. A second issue that has me befuddled is how to get rid of the "Gmail" folder, which is a primary folder under my account names and which houses several subfolders. Only one of my 6 accounts has this problem! The other 5 accounts have several folders directly under the account name and no subfolders. "Subscribe" does not help. All of the 6 accounts have the same subscribe selections; 3 are IMAP and 3 are POP. Yet one of them refuses to retire the "Gmail" folder.

Three things that I feel should be changed in Thunderbird

1. A toggle switch to highlight that we chave received email in a thread. I can spend hours looking for why the folder shows I got an email, yet none of the messages are highlighted.

2. When I want something to be opened in a new tab, I want to switch to the new tab. This again can be a toggle.

3. More of the configure editor settings should be brought out to regular settings with better descriptions. Coders are not the best choice for labeling something.

None of this is an emergency, but there will be a point in the level of frustration that can cause folks to jump ship. As an example when I got a 4k screen, trying to get everything in Thunderbird to fit properly took hours and I am still not happy with the out come. I am hearing that there are a lot of folks, not all, that are frustrated with Thundebird.

I used to like Thunderbird, a lot. I've used it for more than 13 years. I have also contributed money - because I believe in paying for a good product. I think Thunderbird is quickly moving away from being a 'good product'.

I have two big complaints now with Thunderbird.

1. Apparently the 'developers' just can't stop themselves from adding more and more "stuff" (called "features"). All I want is a decent email client. The tabs to open PDF attachments was a nice feature, when it was added. However, the vast majority of so-called "features" that have been added over the past few years are useless to me. And it shows in how big the Thunderbird application has become and how long it now takes to load and display.

2. The 'threaded' crap is driving me nuts. It seems like every time Thunderbird updates it puts some/most/all of the folders back to 'sort by threaded' and displaying the thread column and star column. I hate 'threaded'. If you are updating the application why can't you import my 'custom' settings or at least just leave them alone. No, you reset all kinds of stuff with nearly every "update".

I guess I have two options: 1. I will quit updating Thunderbird (disable auto-update, if that's possible). 2. Find a new email client that is simpler, smaller, loads quicker, and is less cluttered with "features".

Thank you for taking a decent product and 'improving' the hell out of it - to the point where I am starting to hate it.
