Hello there,
I know it is possible to provision user settings over the .js files in /defaults/prefs. However, I would like to configure the "Prefer client side email scheduling" options over this file. For that I would have to input the exact ID of the calendar, which is not possible due to a big amount of users. I also looked up wild cards (like calendar.registry.*.forceEmailScheduling) but unfortunately they do not work.
Is there any other way to achieve configuring specific calendars with certain options, like the one I described?
Kind regards,
Alex

Problem: I'm 76 years old and technically self-taught. I have 2 Windows 11 computers. One desktop and one laptop. Both are fully updated and utilizing Office software, specifically Outlook. Not too long ago I happily discovered Thunderbird and like it soooo much better. QUESTION: Within Outlook, my calendar is displayed as iCloud Calendar which is ok for me. The one thing that is keeping me from exclusively using Thunderbird is not being able to import my iCoud calendar into Thunderbird. Is that even possible and if so, how? Please keep your response as simplistic as possible. Thank you for your time and consideration given to my inquiry.

Hi All,
Need help with linking a file to a calendar reminder (event).
In Outlook I used to be able to easily link a local file located in a specified folder on my computer. For eg: I would link a .pdf invoice for my electricity bill in a folder on my computer. I would create the event to remind me I had to pay this invoice and after creating the reminder link that PDF invoice to the event and when I clicked on it, it would open the invoice using Acrobat reader or whatever other PDF reader I assigned.
I tried to attach the link using the "website" attachment tab to the event in T'bird calendar and assigned Acrobat to open the file (invoice). Acrobat does open, but returns an error saying it can't find the .pdf file. The file is definitely in the nominated folder and the link to it is correct but file doesn't open. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Any assistance much appreciated. Thank You

I am running Ubuntu 22.04 and Thunderbird 115.4.1 (64-bit).
I am a long time user of both Ubuntu and TB.
For years, I have had calendars working with TB (& Lightning).
I use a number of sources, but I am trying to slowly migrate to having one set on my phone and computer, which means using iCal.
This has worked seamlessly for years, but it now isn't working on my main laptop.
I have had to set up the iCal calendars twice, as one implementation allows me to setup an event, but won't show it, and the other shows the event, but won't let me set it up.
Both ways are configured as R/W.
That is painful, but almost tolerable, but the main issue is that the iCal calendars don't show any reminders.
On the phone, they are visible, and enabled and work.
Other calendars (not iCal) seem to work OK - but that isn't fully tested.
I used the route to set up the calendars as described in https://frightanic.com/apple-mac/thunderbird-icloud-calendar-sync/ - and didn't use any scripts but configured them manually.
There are three iCal calendars (I have no idea why, but ...)
I have named the three calendars on the computer e.g. CalA1, CalA2 and CalA3 - and the "duplicate" ones CalB1, CalB2, CalB3.
One thing I have puzzled over, is that the "server number" between the "CalAx" and "CalBx" are different, but constant within CalAs and CalBx.
I tried setting up a new instance, but Lightning would not allow me, even though the URLs were different.
However, CalAx all allow me to set events including reminders, but doesn't display them.
All CalBx won't allow me to set up or edit events (providing an error on saving).
In both instances, the calendars are enabled, and are set to be R/W.
My ideal would be to have either CalAx or CalBx working with reminders - so it is less confusing for me! But it is the reminders that is my greatest bugbear!
Any help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,

Would it kill ya to add a simple link to Google Maps (or even other map sites), if a calendar event contains an address? I use the Calendar a lot and make sure that I have addresses associated with events. This allows Google and Android Auto to pop up a notification asking me if I'm going to XYZ event. I then tap Navigate and off I go. But sometimes when I'm on my desktop I look at a calendar event and wonder where exactly I'm going to be driving to and I have to open the event and copy and paste the address into a browser set on Google Maps. It'd be way more convenient to just tap a link on the TB event notification or maybe in the right-click menu of the event on the Calendar or alongside of the address in the event details.
Been wondering about this for years and finally got around to submitting the request here.

Thunderbird allows me to connect my Google Calendar to TB. But it doesn't allow me to add the new Google Tasks calendar. For that, I need to use Google Calendar Provider. Once subscribed to Google Tasks I can create and manage tasks. However, I cannot create, manage, or even see tasks that recur. TB should either support Google Tasks natively or through Google Calendar Provider support recurring tasks.

Using Thunderbird 115.4.3 (64 Bit).
I have my local Thunderbird calendar synced with Google Calendar. When I receive a meeting cancellation for a single meeting in a series of recurring dates, the cancellation does not get processed.
Even if I select the event in Thunderbird and choose to delete the single event (as opposed to all occurrences) in Thunderbird, the event does not get deleted.
In order to remove the event from the calendar, I have to go to Google calendar and delete it there. After the resync, it is finally removed from the Thunderbird calendar.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I'm running Thunderbird 115.4.1 on an ubuntu system with a local calendar, normal invitation sending works. When I copy&paste an event with attendees to the next week, I choose "Paste without sending" because I might want to edit it some more. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to send the invite for this copied event later after editing even though the "Notify attendees" box is ticked.
Any suggestions?

Attempting to add birthdates to Thunderbird calendar. Have initialized 'Lightning' and 'Provider for Google' addons. Existing calendars appear to be synced. That is, I can add events in Thunderbird, and they are visible in my Google calendar (and visa versa). Wish to add a new calendar for birthdates using the 'Birthday Calendar' addon. 'Birthday Calendar' displays birthdates pulled from 'Address Book', and has the added desirable feature of calculating/including 'age'. Thunderbird appears to be correctly retrieving birthdates from 'Address Book'. However, these new birthdate calendar entries do not seem to be reflected in my Google calendar. I do not see an option (in Google) to add this calendar. Can someone guide me through the process of connecting this new 'Birthday Calendar' with Google?

And that post seems to have no useful answer as of 10/3/23
Is there ANY way to do this. Or do I need to abandon Lightning altogether and use a different client?

This is what I see when invited to a meeting.

I added the United States Holiday Calendar to my Thunderbird Calendar.
As it has zilliions more holidays than I care to see (World Pneumonia Day, for example) I would like to remove it. I added it as an internet supplied calendar, not stored on my computer.
Can someone please tell me how to remove it entirely? Also, is there a different, more modest calendar I might add somewhere out there?
Thanks in advance for the assistance. I have searched for a way to do this but have not found anything.

From the beginning i was not told the difference between the Events and Tasks, it is not enough intuitive for me to differentiate the two. https://superuser.com/questions/1321548/thunderbird-add-on-lightning-what-is-the-difference-between-event-and-task
