I recently received an email with the "Disposition-Notification-To" header set. When I read the email, my Thunderbird client sent a "read receipt" to the sender to inform them I had read the email.

I do not want Thunderbird to do this. How do I prevent it?

Looking through the configuration options, the only vaguely relevant setting I can find is "Determine how Thunderbird handles return receipts". I don't know if this is the correct thing to set but, even if it is, it doesn't seem to work. Under "When I receive a request for a return receipt", it's already set to "Never send a return receipt". I also have Thunderbird set up to block remote content in the message to prevent html-based read receipts, so how is my client still sending them?

I only know that this one was sent because the email address it sent to was faulty so I received a failed mail delivery message. Who knows how many others Thunderbird is sending that I'm simply not aware of!

After quitting a company, in Thunderbird I removed the related IMAP account I had for it on my home desktop (Office365 account) with the "remove account" action.

Yet the associated folder named "outlook.office365.com " within "ImapMail" is still there. How can I remove that too? I can reuse the 16GB it takes.

Thanks, George

I have moved my email from the Gsuite to office365.

I have added a new email account to Thunderbird and I am receiving email fine.

However, my outgoing server (which should be smtp.office365.com with oath2) is repeatedly pointing me to the Google oath2 site for verification. I assume this must be a setting that is within Thunderbird that has not changed since. I have cleared all passwords repeatedly and removed cookies but am not having any luck.

Can anyone help?

Hi, I live in the UK and my main thunderbird email does not send emails ...i can recieve them....i use virgin media as my ISP and i have checked that my email works on their Web based email & it works fine. Summary :- I have 2 email addresses, ,,,,,my main account does not send. i have another account and it works fine .. i entered a new password in the second account , saved the new password in password manager for the 2nd account ..All good with that .

There is NO saved password for my main account as i removed it thinking it would cure the issue ...err No it did'nt . When i open Thunderbird on my main email , it asks for a password ...now being as i removed the password requirement ...is this a contributing factor .......

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the above showing on all my messages and no sender email address. It means I don't know who sent the message and I can't reply directly back. Another correspondent mentioned I needed to turn off the VPN but the link he gave me I cannot find the settings to do it.

I have been bouncing around with this daily for about two weeks, I have searched the help topics and the internet and asked every forum I know. I am nearly in tears with this!

Can anyone help me in a way that I can fix this. I am not a computer engineer so can re-write strings etc.

Hello everyone, im having an issue and cant figure out the solution.

The thing is that signature block doesnt work together with digital signature in S/MIME format. The email is sent signed, but the receiver gets a warning telling that it is not secure, that the message could have been modified.

I already checked this: https://support.mozilla.org/pt-PT/questions/1355003 and this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1731529

Disabled PGP through the configuration editor, the signature block is on pure text with no HTML. Also, before sending im choosing pure text format, and that doesnt work either.

The only solution i found is to manually delete the generated signature block. Also, if the signature is a picture file it works just fine, but if it is a .txt we have the same problem.

Can somebody help me? im willing to share every configuration that you ask.

I am running TB 91.3.2 on a WIndows 10 laptop. All was well until today when I fired up TB and got this message on one of my gmail accounts https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833

My cousin had a similar problem two weeks ago. I wanted to have a look at the Saved Passwords in TB but the whole app crashed and said it had sent details to Mozilla.

My cousin's problem was solved by deleting some entries in the Saved Passwords, but I could not even do that. I have several Gmail accounts, which I access using both POP and IMAP, but am not having problems with them. I also have no problem accessing the account through the Gmail web interface. Apparently 2-factor authorisation was turned on recently; I have turned it off but that didn't help.

Any help will be gratefully received

I cannot respond to emails or even sort them into bins without being told that "Login to account "myemailaddresshere" failed. Enter new password."

When I enter my password I just get the same message back. When I select the "retry" button several times, I get the option to reset my password. I took that option and reset my password, but it didn't do any good.

Tearing my hair out.

My TB stopped working a few days ago, I was trying to get my yahoo mail when a screen popped up asking me to change my cookie settings, however the url shown at the top of the page (very long with a lot of letters and characters then went past the edge of the page) couldn't be accessed or copied, in fact nothing on the page could be accessed apart from a couple of links that didn't seem right, it looked like it was just a large jpeg. So I uninstalled TB, then went through the registery and removed every reference to TB (there are lots) and then ran anti virus. When I downloaded and installed TB again it immeditaley populated itself with the email accounts and emails from the previous (uninstalled) version, even though I hadn't told TB which email accounts I wanted to use. When I tried to access yahoo mail I got the same dodgy looking screen. I don't understand how this could happen when I'd completely removed TB. Any ideas?

[SMIME] Encryption and signature information missing when reading mail

Hello everyone,

I have been running into a display issue for a while now : the SMIME information regarding either signature or encryption is not displayed anywhere when reading a message (either in its own window, own tab or within the default view).

The weirdest parts are (cf images):

  • for PGP, no issues, either when receiving or sending
  • when creating the email, the SMIME signature / encryption logo is displayed as expected (at the bottom of the composition window)

I didn't find anything within the Error window (besides some issue happening with basically every email when switching from one to another in the main window) :

18:30:07.548 WebExtensions: suspend not available protocolhandler.js:350 18:30:07.582 WebExtensions: resume not available protocolhandler.js:353

Technical details :

  • System : Archlinux
  • TB version : 91.3.2
  • Installed add-on : Owl Owl (tried to contact them but no answer yet)

Does anyone have an idea why this would happen / a way to fix it ?

The continuing saga - AOL which serves my verizon.net email system wants me to change my Thunderbird account settings. Here is what they say to do : 1. Go to Tools | Account Settings. 2. Select your account in the list. 3. Go to Account Actions at the bottom left. 4. Click Remove Accounts. 5. Click Add Accounts and type in the email address and password. -Thunderbird will then automatically activate the secure sign-in method for your account.

Only problem with that is that it gets rid of all my old emails/folders, so now I'm trying to just change the account settings. Currently I use smtp.verizon.net for the outgoing server with "Normal Password". If I change the server to smtp.aol.com and the authentication to OAuth2, as someone recommended, outgoing mail brings up an AOL login request, which tells me the account I am using is inactive.

Anyone have any solutions to this ? thanks a million!
