Firefox for Android Community Forum

There are three problems, all related, that are frustrating me with Firefox on Android. I have a Samsung Galaxy 24+. I am trying to get Firefox to use a local HTML file that are my bookmarks, but I am stymied at every turn:

1) when I click on the local, Galaxy, HTML file, I get the standard "Open with" pop up, but they only list: Chrome, HTML View, Android's Internet browser, and Samsung Print Services. Why doesn't Firefox show up there? This is important to me. Is Firefox failing to register its browser properly in Galaxy products?

2) The next thing I try to do is to sync bookmarks so that I can use my hundreds of bookmarks (rather than adding them into Firefox one at a time). So, I click on the famous three vertical dots and there is no "Sync" function in that menu, see attached. So I cannot import my bookmarks from my PC's bookmarks.

3) Thirdly, I try to type into the URL field what Chrome uses to access local files, which is for example: "content://media/external/file/1000005061" but Firefox android does not recognize that. When I change it to "file://media/external/file/1000005061" that does not work either.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra running latest Android update and latest Firefox update. I set Firefox as my default browser. I have un-installed all updates for Samsung Internet and removed all permissions for it. Disabling it is greyed out. Some apps that I use have links to websites. Too frequently, when I go to one of those links, the intro screen for Samsung Internet opens. Then, when I look at the settings in Firefox it is no longer set as the default. Then I set Firefox to default and go to my phone settings to see that Firefox is selected as the default. If I open the previously mentioned app and choose the web link, Firefox will open. But somewhere along the way, the default changes back to Samsung Internet and it's a vicious circle. I have posted in a Samsung forum but haven't gotten a reply that solved the problem. Please help. I'm running the latest version of firefox on my redmi note 12 with android 14. When I try to add a website to homepage, I get a pop up to name the shortcut, but when I click add, nothing happens, it just closes the menu, and no shortcut is added to my homepage. It used to work perfectly on my Mi A1 with android 9.

I have an issue when I try to set Firefox as my default browser on Huawei P20 lite (EMUI 9.1) device.

When I go to the app Settings--> Set as default browser option, I'm not getting the default apps page (screenshot 3). Instead, a premission settings page (screenshot 1) is popping up, and the button on Settings--> Set as default browser, is still grey (screenshot 2).

Earlier today, I've installed Firefox Focus browser, and when I tried to set it as my default browser, everything worked as it should, and the page of defaults apps opened up (screenshot 3).

I'll be very happy to know if this is a bug related to my device, or it happens with other devices.

In about.config i set javascript.enabled false for most browsing, unless i really need to do otherwise (e.g. ecommerce). If i close the app (menu quit), and restart it, javacript.enabled is reset true. This behaviour is not replicated for other settings i may make, e.g. dom.storage.enabled, or permissions.default.image. Being Android i have no root so no possibility of creating a user.js to override Firefox ignoring my settings. This seems to be a bug. Version is Android Nightly version 121.0a1, 2023-11-05.

There used to be an optio open in app option under 3 dot menu right hand corner but after updating to latest version it has gone.

I need that option badly. Please help getting that back I don't want to clear data or uninstall as it will completely ruin many settings logins layout ETC it will be chaos for me

Also please share Firefox customer support mail Id so I xan directly take it upto them.

The Chromebook is slow anyway. I have searched the web and settings on the Chromebook and in apps. I cannot find any Startup controls or way of stopping several apps from loading. I use Linux elsewhere and am at least half savvy. it's hair pulling time...

I have an android phone. A website required me to update Firefox to use the website. I hate updating Firefox. This time I lost the mic on my search bar in Firefox and in any of the browsers I select.

How do I restore the ability to ask questions orally?

Please give step by step solutions. If you say " go to the X feature," please tell me exactly how to get there and assume I know nothing. It is all too accurate!

...Desktop site option setting does not stick! After switching tabs for 5 mins, it changes back to mobile site view & I HAVE TO X out of tab, reopen it, & check desktop site again! You can't just reset the desktop site option on & off either, doesn't work. You MUST X out the tab & start all over. ...It's a real pia! In older versions it always worked, always defaulted even days later! However, NOT in the last few versions, why can't it still currently work now? It should! ...And god for bid you find any real support! And probably won't get it here either. ...."IS" there ANY real, live support around here? A developer email? Anything??? Firefox on Android won't display pop-ups. I've checked privacy setting but there's no checkbox for a popup blocker. Also tried about:config but didn't find any setting to change. Any ideas on how to be sure Firefox is comfigured to allow popups? I participate on a Zoom webinar and can't start Zoom through Firefox so have to use Chrome.

Im using Firefox android on my new pixel 7. I found that the 'add to home screen' option is not available on the ... List. I searched for solution. Someone say click on Install option. But there's no install option either.

The add to home screen is available on my old moto phone

Does anyone have this same issue and have a solution how to fix this? I very much appreciate all your help!

There is a problem with the browser. Initially, it looked like firefox was no longer the default browser.

Then I noticed that hyperlinks and buttons stopped working in Firefox itself. And if the link can be followed by a long tap (then the context menu appears), then clicking on the buttons is a problem: it is impossible to log in, send a message, etc.

Also, the buttons in the main menu stopped working. I wanted to see the saved firefox account password (to sync passwords), but the "passwords" page just wouldn't open. So - with almost all browser settings...

What did you do... 1. Checked the phone with antivirus (Kaspersky and Comodo). Phone is clean. 2. Performed a full firefox reset. Now the browser is clean. Links are working. Settings are available.

Can't set firefox as default browser. The browser is selected in the settings. But following any link from any application (for example, from Telegram or Viber) does not open in the browser.

Need help...

Android 9, FF116, phone is Huawei

I'm wondering why FF doesn't have something built into the browser that will resize text when you zoom in. Right now, if I zoom in on text, it DOES get larger, but then it also goes outside the edges of the browser so that I have to constantly scroll left and right to read the article I did come across an add on, but come on. This is something basic that should be build into the browser:

I had been using firefox as the standard browser for years, but since the DNS-over-HTTPS feature I have had trouble with protecting my family on the web via DNS filtering. Currently the only solution that has worked is to use a different browser (the Spin browser, for whoever is interested). I have Firefox blocked using the Android family link feature (and they can't install new apps without permission). Personally, I would love to move everyone back to Firefox, but I can't find a way to do it safely. Is there a way to effectively disable DNS-over-HTTPS such that it can't be changed (kids are pretty quick at figuring out that they can just go to the settings and figuring out that they can turn the feautre back on). A parental control feature would be ideal, so I can just set the DNS-over-HTTPS to use the family DNS filter in a way they can't turn it off. Does anyone have an helpful solution, or is Firefox dead for family protection?

Hi there! I keep having this issue where firefox keeps toggling security.enterprise_roots.enabled to false whenever i close it. Tried adding the security.certerrors.mitm.auto_enable_enterprise_roots Preference and set it to true, but still didn't qork and if i close the browser it's a given i have to go back to about:config to set the preference or i will start to see the typical errors again. The certificate is from adguard and it has worked for quite some time, i cannot explain this sudden behaviour and it seems to be an old bug that i thought was resolved by now. Should i post this in bugzilla?
