How do the fingerprinter blocking levels work across Firefox's standard/strict/custom Enhanced Tracking Protection in Windows and Android?

I'm having trouble breaking down the specific behavior of fingerprinting protection for the 3 settings levels.

According to the Windows release notes dated 1 October 2023, "Additionally, you can choose whether to block Suspected Fingerprinters in all windows or just in private windows", but also, "To disable Fingerprinting Protection and return to the default settings, simply select "Standard" or "Strict"

In my reading, these two statements conflict. I'm under the impression that "known fingerprinter" blocking is always active, even on standard. Does enabling "Strict" enhanced protection also enable "suspected fingerprinter" blocking, and if so, is it active on all windows or only in private browsing? Does that mean we need to use the "Custom" setting to enable suspected fingerprinting blocking in all windows?

My question is the same for Firefox for Android 131.0, except in the mobile app's case, the release notes contain even less detail - so I could also be off-base there. TBH I am probably missing something obvious, so if anybody can even point me in the right direction I'd be grateful!

Thanks for any insight anybody can provide!

Hello! I noticed FireFox Android now reports my real OS version but FireFox Android has auto spoofed the useragent OS version from version 122? The install was via apk through Aurora app store if that makes any difference. I would like to fix this if its an error, if the spoof has been disabled then it will obviously remain. Thanks in advance!

I've just happened to learn that Firefox on Android no longer uses a master password to protect passwords. That was a feature that has kept me on Firefox forever.

It is insufficient, dangerous, and insecure to rely on my device PIN. PINs are not long, can be brute forced, and law enforcement can compel discloser.

I am baffled by this choice. If it is how its going to be I have no particular reason to use Firefox and I certainly can't financially support it.

I've been deleting my saved passwords in Firefox, after migrating to a standalone password manager. It's been anything but easy (deletions are not synced, and bulk deletion process is inconvenient to say the least).

What worries me is that my "deleted" passwords kept coming back as soon as I enabled Sync, until I realised I had duplicate devices in my Mozilla account control panel. I still have, though, some other connected services (Add-ons, Mozilla Support, Mozilla Monitor...).

Is what I've done enough to ensure they're gone? Where exactly are synced passwords stored, and how can I be sure that they aren't lying around in a Mozilla server, awaiting a future data breach? I don't have the time and energy to change 200+ passwords.

Hi there,

Is the script in this product bypassing Firefox privacy fences? I do not understand what they promote, but I have not a good feeling after reading their explanation. https://confection.io/scripts/click-engage-xbox-com/.

But I hope Firefox can do something against this possible new threat.

Good morning - I wanted to set up two-factor authentication with your browser for security reasons. A code comes up that one uses with one's phone. I connected with it, but I couldn't finish setting up the 2FA. Here's the problem: My Samsung Note 20 Ultra has fingerprint scanning on the screen. Since I bought it, I tried using the fingerprint feature, but it is a beast to get my prints scanned and then it can hardly ever scan my print successfully. So I gave up using fingerprints altogether. So I scan your code, and it wants me to do the whole fingerprinting thing with my phone in order to set it up. It doesn't give me the option to use the security that I did choose to use with my phone. Please advise how I can get 2FA without doing all of this. Thanks. Ritva

Hello

Is it possible to enable a password protection when starting the Firefox app on Android ? In special when saved passwords are used they are entered automatically and there is no additional protection of those when going on a website for which the password was saved. E.g. when somebody unlock your device the person is able to start Firefox and going through chronic or pages where you might enabled automatically password fill in. Can this be protected by pin or fingerprint?(like in the Firefox Password manager)

Thank you
