On Ctrl+Shift+C you can inspect an element, but for some reason when you click an element the dev tools window doesn't get focused automatically. If you right click and select "Inspect Element" from the context menu the focus changes correctly. This is a small issue but very annoying to work with.

Hi, I'm using webpack 4.6 and Babel 7+ to compiled JS, CSS, and their sourcemaps. I can edit individual SCSS files directly in the style editor, and have verified that webpack watch triggers a compilation, so a new css file replaces the original.

I was expecting Firefox to render style changes without me having to manually reload the page (as I have been able to do in the past with tools such as grunt). But that's not the case. Styles are not automatically updated and I have to reload the page by hand. Not a big deal when it is only once change I have to do, but on my work, I have to do this dozens and dozens of times when I'm developing, so it gets a little tiring.

Any suggestions on how to trigger the 'live' updating of styles ?

Thank you!

I have programmed a website (with partial use of Xara js code). On one page I have a link to impressum, data privacy etc. When I click one of the links and then return to previous page with "back", I get a small line at a position where no element is located. The line is connected with the last link selected as it changes color when hovering with the mouse over the button.

It seems that the effect appears only in Firefox and not in every installation, and neither in IE11 nor Edge nor Chrome. I have observed the same effect also on my mobile (Samsung S9). The line can be seen in the attached picture. For your developers I can also provide the link to that specific page if necessary.

Firefox is my favourite browser, but it has some problems. Although the team managed to fix memory leak issues with BigInt in js, but the performance is 3x slower than NodeJS compared to the latest spidermonkey (75.0b6).

To test out, I have created a simple pi calculator (open source), the website is: http://picalc.rf.gd/

The source code can be found on github, or just by clicking the "View Page Source". It seems impossible to get past 4,000 digits of Pi in firefox but in chromium I can calculate about 10,000 digits in the time firefox does 4,000 digits.

Previously, in the earlier versions (73 I guess), the memory went all the way up to 4 gigabytes while trying to calculate 5,000 digits, it's now (my current firefox version is 75.0b4, developer edition).

For the benchmarks, I have also tried NodeJS and Firefox's Spidermonkey.

I have a site that pushes a few resources back with the initial page load via HTTP2 server push. This site worked well in Firefox 72, and still works well with Chrome 80. It does not work in Firefox 74. Charles proxy reports that Firefox is resetting the push stream via REFUSED_STREAM (0x7).

Before I take the time to setup a publicly accessible repro: 1. Has anyone else seen this? 2. Are there other debugging tools folks recommend? I'd like to rule out some of the many legitimate reasons (https://jakearchibald.com/2017/h2-push-tougher-than-i-thought/) the stream could have been refused before reporting this as a bug.

This is about Style Editor, which uses different code for styling. The colors used in browser toolbox (Ctrl + Shft + Alt + I) *Style Editor* uses Code Mirror selectors. Due to less than perfect sight & the poor visibility / contrast colors of found search terms & several other things in Style Editor, I needed to change things.

I didn't have too much problem finding most of CM's CSS selectors for what I needed. In all the CSS files associated with code mirror in the dark theme, I haven't found how to change the foreground (text) color when selecting lines or sections of code.

In Linux, Style Editor's default selected background is almost the same as the body BG color (looking at the hex colors used, and just visually. This from codemirror.css in omni.ja, changes selected, unfocused background: .CodeMirror-selected {

 background: #D4E7F9 !important;

This changes the selected, focused BG color: .CodeMirror-line::selection, .CodeMirror-line > span::selection, .CodeMirror-line > span > span::selection {

  background-color: #E9ECD8 !important; }

But I've found nothing for foreground "color," to make the selected text legible through the light selected BG color I chose. Just adding "color: #0000FF !important;" - under the background property doesn't work (like many CSS styled UIs - especially text editors).

Is it possible that Code Mirror doesn't have a way to change the text color on selected areas? Most text editors I've tested usually have preference menu settings for things like selected - foreground & BG color. Or they have themes that add extra UI styling ability. The themes on code mirror's site don't seem to use selected foreground color (or just "color"). Maybe it doesn't understand that concept.

If the highlight BG color chosen for CM is fairly light with some transparency, you can read some darker syntax colors, but not all.

Using another text editor with better search, I looked & searched all files I could find that control some of Style Editor's / code mirror's colors.

The only thing I found where I could change selected text color was one rule for searching in Style Editor. It's in codemirror.css ... and it doesn't work that consistently for visibility. /chrome/devtools/content/shared/sourceeditor/codemirror/lib/codemirror.css

The default colors (someone) used for search term matches have little contrast.

LINE 330: .cm-searching {

 background-color: rgba(255, 255, 170, 0.6) !important; /* The 1st BG value listed is for focused search result highlight.*/
 color: #0808E5 !important;
 background-color: rgba(2226, 253, 251, .6) !important; }

NOTE: I added the color property in ".cm-searching" - and it worked. Same trick doesn't work for any selection rules I tried. Codemirror's online manual is fairly spartan https://codemirror.net/doc/manual.html#styling

Compared to Chrome, Firefox sometimes returns the wrong coordinates. For example yesterday (13/03/2020) the coordinates were wrong all day. Today (14/03/2020) the coordinates are right. The coordinates are crucial for the success of the app. I use Firefox 74.0

Firefox devtools Style Editor shows "post" lines, every Fx restart

If Style Editor is selected (in devtools - Ctrl + Shft + Alt + I) when I restart Firefox to apply changes, scrolling lines showing the browser toolbox connection status, which files it's accessing, etc., scroll down the screen. It also hides the Style Editor screen, until it finishes (several seconds).

It doesn't do this if any other tools were selected (e.g., Inspector) when Fx is restarted. There's a lot more lines than my screenshot shows (need to scroll on the popup, to see the rest). The only thing I found online (may not be current) said this is a message shown when devtools?? thinks it's taking too long to load.

I didn't see it until now, because I mostly used Inspector. But I don't think there's much loading time difference when Inspector or Debugger were selected when restart begins vs. if Style Editor was selected.

I could click another tool before I restart (I won't remember), but I don't see any problem in the time it takes to reload. I'd like to hide the message & its solid color background, if I could find how / where it's controlled.

   	"description": "My very simple start page",

`index.html` is a normal HTML page that references an `index.js` which contains code something like this:

   window.onload = () => {document.getElementById("search").focus()}

However, when I open a new page, it focuses the address bar at the top instead of my element. Is there an approach I could take to this that would let me focus that element? Directly opening the file verifies that the focus() works.

I'm a developer of intranet enterprise app. The app works through HTTP and requires webcam access to make photos of clients. Right now, employees use outdated FF 50, and I need to convince the management to upgrade the version to current. HTTPS is required for webcam access starting with FF 68. We've got over 300 app installations, and HTTPS is not viable in our situation. I've found two preferences in about:config, media.devices.insecure.enabled, media.getusermedia.insecure.enabled, and photo can be taken by clicking Allow every time. When I click "Remember this decision" checkbox, Allow button becomes disabled, and FF displays message "Your connection to this site is not secure. To protect you, Firefox will only allow access for this session".

App is hosted on one fixed internal IP address and users probably don't have access to Internet. Can I do something to fight this behavior? Users should be able to allow permanent access to webcam.

PS. Upgrade was delayed by https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/issues/2851 - we've used Adobe plugin instead. Last week I fixed the bug in our own copy of PDF.js. We will be upgrading to either FF 67 or the current version.

Update: found a workaround to remember the website. Click on Connection not secure icon, then More Information, then Permissions. You can set allow camera there, but FF ignores the setting and still shows popup in question.

I need to create a low level addon for FireFox, one that is accessible from a loaded page via JS code in the page, but is a Native extension to the browser.

As I understand it, NPAPI is now no longer an option, and the PPAPI (Google) will be deprecated next year in 2021.

The extension I'm tasked with cannot be provided by a browser extension like the ones in the mozilla store as it needs to provide additional API's that will be called from JavaScript code running in loaded pages, not under the control of myself, but all confirming to the same standard API calls.

I've been trying a few proof of concepts using CEF (Embedded chromium) and have hit too many road blocks, so now I'm exploring a solution that will use Embedded Gecko and/or extensions to a running version of firefox.

I've read a lot of the MDN content, but this either discusses HTML level topics (Which are of no use) or NPAPI (Which is now deprecated)

Can you provide any pointers as to which technologies I should be exploring in order to accomplish my goal.

For reference, the extensions I've been tasked with are to implement the OIPF HbbTV specifications into a standard browser to aid other developers in testing and developing standard HbbTV applications.

Many thanks in advance.

PS: Sorry about the title, I had to find a way to shorten it due to the text box length restriction :-)

MDN article says it's deprecated (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/document/execCommand) but my question is, how much should i worry about it not being supported in firefox anytime soon? If it would actually got unspported, I'd have to re-code all the functionality with a lot of hacks on my own, so I'd like to know it in advance, if possible.
