Before update when I clicked in PDF viewer toolbar download button it opened a screen to open with, right now it only download a file. I want it back. I have firefox as pdf viewer, but sometimes I need to open file with Acrobat DC, that's when I did click download button. It works on other computer like before, it is before firefox update.

I know firefox version 98.0 changed how downloads work, but I have my settings for downloads set to "Always ask you where to save files" and specifically for PDF files, I have the action set to "Always ask". However, when I click download on a PDF file and then select "open with firefox" as the action option, the file not only opens in the browser, but also gets downloaded automatically without even allowing me to select where. Is this intended behavior? There are lots of times I just want to view a file and not actually download it, and this is quite annoying.

Before the most recent update (version 98.0), my default setting for pdf files is to open in Firefox and a pdf website I use prompted a download window when I clicked 'Download'. It has 'popupDownload=true' in the link which I believe did the trick.

After this update, clicking the same button just opens the pdf file instead of showing the download window, ignoring the command in the link.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Who has experienced downloading a PDF file after the last update, Firefox used to open a download dialogue but now it opens the file in same tab instead of downloading it. this can be annoying especially when opening emails and downloading files, every time I have to reopen the same location.

I just had a Firefox update today and now when I save a pic or save a video it does a new really annoying drop-down notification at the top from the download icon area which stays there until I manually remove it. In the past I only saw an activity up there when I downloaded programs to my downloads folder, but not when I simply saved an image or video to my other locations. I do not want this stupid dropdown notification appearing, and it's getting bigger and bigger the more pics I save, how do I turn it off? It's ridiculous. I save videos from twitter and images like memes all the time and never have this happen, it just saves it and there is nothing more going on to worry about (which is what I want), it's only started today after the update so it's a new feature. I looked in about:config but I could not work out which setting it is so didn't touch anything. Thanks for your help.

Ever since the last update, every time I download something on Firefox this download tab pops up every time when the new download is complete. Ive tried disabling every extension, Ive tried the about:config solution I found on this page, setting it to "false" and I havent been able to find anything in tools or settings.. but nothing disables it and its getting annoying. Ive had Firefox for years and this has never happened before.

When I go to download a ZIP file, it will always attempt to download the file directly rather than letting me open it with WinRAR. When I go into the browser settings I see that some other file types have options to choose how they're handled, but there's no entry for ZIP files. I've tried refreshing my Firefox install and yet the issue still persists.

I used to have this option before I reinstalled Windows a while back (where I kept my files but not programs). I don't know for sure that that's what caused this to start, but the timing would line up.

When downloading financial data to Moneydance software, the download correctly opens Moneydance and update data file correctly, but after v98 Firefox update a second identical .qfx file is downloaded to my desktop which I then have to securely delete as a redundant file on my PC.... This is new behavior, has always worked perfectly previously. Firefox settings under Files and Application header are as follows: Downloads: Save files to Desktop Applications: Actions are set to use Moneydance.exe for all OFX and QFX financial data

The extra file showing up on my desktop is new and unwanted. It seems to be unneeded as it can be deleted without any obvious effect and no loss of data in Moneydance

So I have my Download button visible all the time.

Yesterday, this suddenly started to happen.

When I download something, the list of Ongoing Downloads stayed open. It never did that before.

Any idea why and how to fix it?

I see the thread was closed without a solutuion. The CIRCUMVENTION being 'fiddling' about with 'config'. Just to re-state.... Since Firefox 98, PDF files that are OPENED within Firefox are also automatically (and INCORRECTLY) downloaded. If the PDF file is subsequently requested to be downloaded (using the 'button' within the PDF display/window), Firefox will either: Prompt stating that the file already exists; or (if the user picks his/her own filename) a 2nd copy of the file will be downloaded. Sorry to be direct but THIS IS A BUG THAT NEEDS FIXING.

The option "always open similar files" is not shown in the downloaded file context menu. This occurs on 2 machines running Windows 7 64 bit. A third machine also running Windows 7 64 bit shows it correctly. All three machines have Firefox 98.0.1 installed.

Please advise how to resolve this.

Since Firefox 98, whenever a file is downloaded or a page is captured (using add-on Page Saver WE) a display/pop-up appears in the top right-hand corner of the screen (or possibly under the 'Display Download Progress 'button'). Previously, this prompt/display/pop-up would disappear after a few seconds. Now it stays there until there is a mouse click anywhere on the screen (including outside the Firefox window). This is presumably a bug and it is also extremely irritating. Please change this back to the way it used to be (disappearing after a few seconds) or provide an option to specify how long the prompt/display/pop-up should be visible - like the 'new mail' prompt from Thunderbird. When I download files, a list of the files appears, and does not go away unless I click somewhere off the list. The list hides a good portion of the screen. How do I turn this feature off. This did not happen until the latest Firefox update.

Firefox did an update today, so I assume this has something to do with it. Every time I do a download (and I do a lot) the drop down list showing the downloads I've done pops out. It didn't do this prior to the update. It used only to appear when I selected it. Now it comes out every blasted time. It's very annoying and distracting. To be clear, I still want to see the download arrow/indicator/whatever so I can see the download is happening, but I don't want to see the list each time. How do I make it STOP? Image attached. I do not want Firefox to automatically download the PDF before I preview it I went to the application setting for PDF download and it does not give the option to preview before downloading. Even when I view a PDF in my email Firefox automatically downloads it.

How do I stop this from happening, do you have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

The PDF (application/force-download) and PDF (application/pdf) and PDF (application/x-download) will not change from "always ask" I upload the image below

Firefox 98 just upgraded my installation and as usual Mozilla's made changes that screw up how I use it.

The download improvements they made specifically. I used to be able to have Firefox view a PDF so I could peruse it and decide if I want to keep it and if I did I just hit the download button in the viewer. Now the "improvements" will only either let me set it so it either downloads right away or if I change it to view in Firefox it won't let me download it via the viewer DL button. It acts like it's gonna download by opening the save window but then nothing happens when I hit the save button.

Can Mozilla please fix this? I don't want to save every PDF I want to see if I want to keep. I want to be able to view it in Firefox again and THEN download it if I want it.

I used to get a option to open or save Excel files. Recently it now just automatically saves to the computer and I have to then open it. What happened to the option?

Since last Firefox update, the download window popup is displayed everytime I download something (red box in the screenshot).

I tried looking in the settings but there is only two lines for where to download or to ask me at each download.

In the personnalization menu there is only the option to display or not the download icon (blue box in the screenshot), and I want the icon to always be seen like I used to.

Tried to look into about:config but I don't know which setting to set on true/false.

I would appreciate some help to not have the red box popup appear when I download. Thank you.

Under my settings / applications, PDF files are listed twice as (application/force-download) AND (application/pdf). As a result, when I open a PDF file from within Firefox, the file opens AND downloads. I do NOT want it to download and ONLY want it to open. I have changed the setting to 'Always ask' and every other setting available, yet it continues to download AND open. How to I change it to OPEN only and NOT download?
