Firefox has been my browser of choice for about 6 years. On 3/16 /15 it stopped working. I tried all of the suggestions. I then completely uninstalled Firefox and Mozilla Maintenance. I restarted and checked my disks and memory. All other browsers: IE, Safari, Chrome & Opera work fine. I installed from Firefox Setup 36.0.3.exe this morning. Same problem. Works for about 5 minutes and then hangs.

I know what we're going to be told, and I'm not really interested in that. What I am interested to see is how many others have had this instant problem.

I'm using a Mac (OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks), and just updated to the latest version of Firefox: 49.0.2. However, every time I start Firefox, I get a prompt telling me to restart to update to the latest version (which happens to be 49.0.2). Even after clicking the "Restart" button in the prompt, it just restarts then immediately tells me to restart again.

The odd thing is, I have another user account on this machine where that is not happening. That account is using 49.0.2 and does not receive the update prompt.

Each time I click on Mozilla Firefox to access the browser I get a box stating I should update and to do so it asks for my administrator password. I need to know whether Mozilla is asking so I can safely type my administrator password, or if it could be a hacker so I should not allow access to my administrator password. Also, in trying to ask this question I see that some others have had problems w/the new version of Mozilla Firefox. Is that the same as the update which the pop-up box is telling me to do? What is the effect of refusing to update or download the newer version of Mozilla Firefox?

I use Windows 7 on an ASUS laptop with modem and router.

How can I parse the version number of Firefox programatically.

So, I don't have to visit the page every time. All I would have to do is run the script, and it will give me the latest version.

http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/update/win32/en-US/

The file will always have ".complete.mar" in it. It's the only file with the word "complete" under this directory. How can I parse the version "40.0.2" from it.

Literally, I have updates for Firefox completely turned off. But, suddenly, I have the little speakers appearing on my tabs. It doesn't seem like much, but this is just the latest in a series of these little updates that keep occurring.

How are any of these things, big or little, happening, when I've shut all updates off? It's ridiculous to know that my choice of whether or not I want any update is completely ignored. Since they are affecting something on MY COMPUTER - good, bad, neutral; your product, or not - I think I should have the final say in whether or not any update goes through, shouldn't I???

Hello.

I am using Windows XP and Firefox V.43.0.4

Firefox was used to check for the latest version of Java. A newer version was found so Java was updated. The older version was deleted automatically without any issue and was also removed from Add/Remove Programs.

However, when I went back to into Java to check for the latest version, using Firefox, it states 'Unable To Begin UnInstall Process: Out Of Date Java Versions Were Not Uninstalled'-Is this a glitch since the older Java version was deleted during the new version update process?

For several reasons, mostly add-on compatibility, I need to use V41 I have gone to the Options area and then to Advanced and have checked "Never check for updates " so it should NOT automatically update itself. However, it IS updating itself to V43 - and of course some of my Add-ons are not compatible.

Am I missing something??

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

When I try download and install mozilla firefox it gives a prompt "This version of Firefox requires Microsoft Windows 7 x64 or newer". But the fact is that I'm installing it on a Win 7 64-bit environment and the firefox installer file is also 64-bit. I have verified the minimum system requirements for firefox installation and it meets the criteria. But still it doesn't allow me to install and gives the said prompt.

Tried various install files and no luck. When I try download it is the stub installer file that is available for latest versions. Refer the screenshot of the error.

The question isn't even an exaggeration. I was browsing like normal, doing nothing that I don't always do anyway. There were no updates to any of my extensions or add ons (though I don't know when firefox last updated itself) I close the browser and go do something else. Come back and when I try to load anything in firefox it says it isn't connected to the internet.

Thing is... I'm typing from that same computer. My internet is completely fine. It's not blocked by any firewall or proxy - it never has been. Firefox decided it just doesn't want to work anymore and this is incredibly annoying. Though I prefer using SeaMonkey (Which works) I need Lightbeam for a site I often go to and that's only in firefox.

I've started it in safe mode as well as refreshed it.

I am using WIN XP SP3 32 bit on a desktop computer. Firefox prompted me to update Silverlight, which involved uninstalling the existing version of Silverlight, which I did. But when I tried to install the latest version, it wouldn't let me. It actually got to the Installer, then this was the message I got.

"Message ID: generic You reached this page since you encountered problems with the installation of Microsoft Silverlight. In many cases these problems are due to incompatible browser and operating system or due to an old pre-release version of Silverlight. Please follow the Uninstall Instructions to remove any previous versions from your system and then visit the Silverlight Web site and install the latest version. "

What does all this mean, please? I'm not stupid & can manage most basic things, but am not a techie by any means...please, can someone please help me & tell me what I should do next? I am an aged pensioner, thus cannot upgrade my computer, as I haven't the budget to save up for a new one (or a re-con one either!).

I am under the impression that I need Silverlight if I want to watch most videos, and I do daily. (Meditations, mainly).

Thanks in advance Peace and Love Sylvia

We need to use Firefox 33.0.1 for testing, but every time my tools use Firefox, the next time I find it has upgraded to 45.

In preferences I have set to never update, turned off search engine updates, and in the config page, have made sure the app.update.auto/enabled/silent are all false.

I am running on a Mac 10.11, I have renamed my original latest Firefox installation, and install the oldest in the default path for our tools to detect.

I see the maintenance service only exists for Windows computers, and I do not see any update folders in Firefox's application or Application Support directories.

This update will happen even when I don't restart my computer, or open Firefox manually in between test runs.

When I'm working or watching videos on YouTube, for example, I keep getting this damn popup. "A recommended security and stability update is available, but you do not have the system permissions required to install it. Please contact your system administrator, or try again from an account that has permission to install software on this computer. You can always get the latest version at; https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/". I'm using a user account, not the Administrator account. I'm fed up with these popups appearing in the middle of my screen when in the middle of work or trying to relax when I'm watching a video. Such popups are supposed to go to desktop not in my face when I'm in the middle of something. How do I stop it?
