I got an error on one of my open or pinned tabs (do not recall which it was). I do not recall what the error was and did not screenshot it because I was sure that closing Firefox and restarting it would fix the issue. I did just that, closed Firefox and reopened it to find that ALL of my pinned and open tabs were GONE. This also happens if another instance of Firefox is opened and I close my main one first by accident and then close the other Firefox instance - ALL TABS LOST.

This is what I have done: • I started to restore the pinned tabs as I could remember what they were but I was not able to remember the open tabs that were not pinned • I searched for lost tabs on the web and on the Mozilla support site but was not able to find any useful help - most of it seems outdated or no long compatible with my version of Firefox. • I looked for the sessionrestore files on my local PC but could not find them - this must have changed in some version of Firefox between version 42 and version 82 that I have. • I looked in the AddOn store to find something that would help restore and prevent this issue - but found nothing. A very old post, from 2012, indicated one that did this but it is no longer available. • All of the Options in Firefox to restore previous session, reopen previous tabs and all that were blank.

This is VERY frustrating in that it results in lots of down time to recreate what was open and is equivalent to working on a document for days or weeks only to find out that the Microsoft file got corrupt or did not save properly.

I am using Firefox version 82.0.2 (64-bit).

Two questions: 1/ Is there any way I can get the pinned and open tabs back from the previous session? 2/ What can I do to avoid this issue EVER happening again.

Thanks!!!!

I HAVE SYSTEM RESTORE ON MY FIREFOX. When I purposely restarted my computer, for an unknown reason, a session came up but my previous session did not automatically restore as usually it does. I did something in that window and was thinking about something else and deleted it, ie: the session. OH S _ _ _! Just lost my restore previous session opportunity..... I opened another session (and restore previous session was grayed - not available) and have not closed my session nor re-started since. Is there any other way to go back and recover my lost session windows and tabs? .... not from the previous session that I accidentally closed, but from the session before that? Thanks in advance. How do I find/search for a "container tab" name from hundreds open among multiple windows?

(Previously asked -- but not answered -- in a roundabout way: "Searching for open tabs among many windows needs improvement", https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1360159 )

I find myself, surprisingly, juggling between hundreds of open tabs on topics of interest -- and FF remains nice and stable!

Lately, I have been increasingly assigning/using "container tabs" (vs New Private Window) for shopping, banking, etc. -- very handy.

However, I noticed that I can no longer FIND any of those tabs by name using the search feature of the "List all tabs" button (or via the "%" method). Only traditional/normal tab names appear to be searchable from among those open among multiple windows.

This is rather crippling time-and-effort-wise. I find myself unnecessarily duplicating already-open tabs simply because I can't easily find the "old" ones anymore.

Someone previously suggested trying the extension "Tab Manager Plus"; but as I reported in my previous post, (for me) it caused hesitations and overall FF response became sluggish with my laptop's fan kicking in often -- unacceptable. (Also, apparently no updates since 2018, and I see recent user comments of losing windows full of tabs.)

Is there any good built-in solution I've missed?

Hi, I have not changed any settings but since a few days ago, any PDF links or downloads are shown on the same tab instead of a new tab. Is there any way to go back to opening in new tabs?

To clarify, for example, I receive a pdf file from web whatsapp, and I open it. Previously, a new tab is created showing the pdf file I received. However, now, the pdf file is shown on the tab where web whatsapp was instead of opening a new tab. I have to click go back one page to navigate back web whatsapp.

I can send from my phone to my work laptop. I can send from my work to home laptop. But to the phone, it says sent, and nothing ever arrives. Everything is synced. What else can I do?

I'd been having issues with connectivity (local issues, wireless AP connection), and one day this week the browser had issues loading my saved tabs, I'm suspecting because of my poor connectivity, so I close the browser, disconnect from my AP, reconnect, fire up Firefox again (it tells me it's applying updates before it loads up), and a blank screen with my homepage loads up instead of my saved tabs and settings. I don't know what's caused that, but it's led to the issues I'm having now.

I laid out the page the way it was before I was having these connectivity issues, with 5 app tabs (Gmail, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and one other) and a few normal tabs. I closed the browser, reopened, and now what it's doing is making the Facebook app tab and the Instagram app tab open up as normal tabs, unlike before when they stayed as app tabs. To be clear, if I rearrange these two to be app tabs and shut down the browser, then reopen it, the app tabs begin as normal when the browser opens, until they start loading up... THEN it changes ONLY THESE TWO app tabs back to normal tabs.

Nothing has changed in my settings; I don't clear browser history on exit, I have Restore Previous Session always ticked. I still can't tell what's causing this.

Hi all,

After a recent update to firefox I didn't like the premade colour themes, so I made my own. There is one thing that bothers me though, and I'm not sure how to change it: As you can see in the attached image, the tab I'm currently on has a clear distinct colour. However, all the unselected tabs have the same colour as the background. I find it annoying that this makes unselected tabs harder to spot, and makes it harder to see where one tab begins and the other ends. It is minor, but it annoys me. Does anyone know a way (either via settings or the add-on firefox color) for me to make the unselected tabs stand out from the background?

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to save a session or your set of tabs? My "Open previous windows and tabs" is checked on. But occasionally the app will erase the tabs when you've relaunched or quit the app. Such an easy request for Mozilla never to implement into the feature of this web browser.

I've looked through every question on the Support site regarding saving pinned tabs, but can't find a specific answer. I have a pinned tab, and in my Settings under Startup, I have the "Open previous windows and tabs" box checked. However, every time I re-open Firefox after previously closing it, the pinned tab is gone. Is this because I close Firefox using the "X" in the upper-right-hand corner or simply close all the open tabs?

So, I have a bad habit of keeping pages open in my browser and letting them accumulate in order to read them at a later date. Bad habit, I know. But, when going through and closing old tabs I no longer need, I noticed that the undo close tab button doesn't actually undo the tab you just closed. Instead of re-opening the tab you most recently closed, it re-opens whichever tab you closed recently which most recently *opened*. For example - say I have seven tabs open, with tab one being on the left/opened first, and tab seven being on the right/opened most recently. If I close tab seven and then close tab two, and then I click the undo close tab button, tab seven will be the one to be re-opened, even though it was closed before I closed tab two. Likewise, the tabs on the far left won't show up under recently closed tabs if there are tabs further to the right that were closed, even if they were closed before the tabs on the left.

I discovered this while clearing out tabs I had open. I closed several tabs on the right/most-recent, and then went to the left/oldest tabs and started closing those. I realized after opening a tab that I still kind of needed that page for other things. However, when I went to undo close tab, the tab that opened wasn't the tab I had just closed, it was one of the tabs I had closed several minutes prior that were on the right/most-recent side of the page. The tab which I closed on accident was nowhere to be found in my history.

Hello.

Cycling through unpinned tabs is easy, Ctrl+Tab does the job.... But what about pinned tabs?

People are more likely to have more pinned tabs open and saved to their browser than unpinned tabs, like myself, as surely, that is the point of pinned tabs.

So I cannot for the life of me understand why I can't find a keyboard shortcut to cycle through these!! Is it really possible for developers to overlook this simple but extremely useful and effective shortcut?!

Can anyone help?

Mike.
