After the latest update (117.0 64-bit) I now do not see the '+' sign in the tab bar. I have 40 tabs open (please, no negativity - it's always worked for me), but if I close all of the tabs it reappears. Re-open the original 42 tabs and it's gone again. Close them and it reappears, etc. Now for the fun bit: starting from scratch with a new window - the '+' is there, but open 20 more tabs and it goes.

I recently sent a lot of tabs from my phone to my computer. However, when I started Firefox on my computer, since Firefox tried to load the content of all sent tabs immediately instead loading them lazily (which I think probably should be the default behavior), it took a very long time for Firefox to display even the tab that was currently selected, and I therefore decided to kill Firefox and reopen it, in the hope that all new tabs would load lazily. Instead, when I reopened Firefox, none of the new tabs where there anymore; it was as if they had never been sent. I would like to get them back, but I have no idea how to. Does anyone know if that is possible and, if so, how?

Earlier today I changed my settings in "Privaty & Security" to "Clear history when Firefox closes". In that setting I selected to only delete "Browsing and download history."

I assumed this would just delete my browsing history from the URL bar, but now after I closed Firefox, it also deleted all my tabs!! There were many important tabs that I don't want to lose. But I also can't find them under 'recently closed tabs', and I also tried a solution from this forum, namely to find the recovery file and upload them to https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html -- but they don't contain my old tabs either!

Is there still something I can do to recover my lost tabs??

I'm running version 118.02.2 (64-bit) of Firefox on Windows 12. I *always* have the 'Open previous windows and tabs' checked. Starting yesterday, Firefox opens with nothing other than a blank page. Luckily for me, this has happened in the past and I have a Bookmarks Menu folder with my default tabs saved. Even so, it's still frustrating.

I had two Firefox windows open. One had 100+ tabs open, the other had around 5 open. Like a klutz I accidentally closed the window with the 100+ tabs open instead of the other window. Now when Firefox restarts it opens the version with the 5 tabs.  :-( I read about lost tabs in Firefox. I have found a file with the 100+ tabs in it. It is called: upgrade.jsonlz4-20221007134813. But what do I do next to restore Firefox to restart with the 100+ tabs version? Thanks.

Hey there,

during work I often open two windows of Firefox to have more information visible on my two monitors. Unfortunately I sometimes forget that I have a second window open, so I close only my "main" window and loose all tabs.

Is there a way to force Firefox to ask to close a window and loosing multiple tabs for every window open?

Right now this only happens for the last open window.

PS: I just found out about the keyboard shortcut of restoring a window (CTRL+SHIFT+N) recently. I would prefer a setting in my case.

Thanks in advance Fred

In Firefox 114.0.2, the tab foreground color for most NYTimes.com pages initially is black, but after an instant, the foreground color now becomes gray. The background color is a similar gray, so the tab symbol for the NYTimes (beginning with an ornate letter T) cannot be distinguished from the background. The NYTimes tab foreground color used to remain black.

For an example, go to https://www.nytimes.com/. The tab foreground colors for some NYTimes pages remain black; for example, go to https://help.nytimes.com/hc/en-us. I think this tab foreground color change began recently, less than a month ago. This problem does not occur for web sites other than the NYTimes. Restarting my computer does not help. This tab color problem does not occur in Edge or Chrome.

Thanks for any info

Within the last hour or so, I needed to close Firefox while installing an app (the setup was recommending to close all Windows programs).

Had 8 windows open.

Right-clicked on the Taskbar Firefox icon, then selected the option "close all windows" - it proceeds to close each window consecutively, asking me each time for manual confirmation whether to close this window with x tabs in it - and I just confirm each time.

So then after that setup is completed, I open Firefox again - the last closed window is restored (as per the settings);

then I click on History, "recently closed windows", and.... there's only 2 windows on that list. I restore those 2, and then the list is empty - nothing more to restore.

So if I had restarted the PC, it would've just restored the 8 windows upon reopening Firefox, as usual - but since I opted to just close Firefox like this, "close all windows", I just lost 5 windows.

So could anything be done here?

Something in the files? Maybe the C:\Users[user]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\4qu1kfr9.default-release\sessionstore-backups path? There's a file called "previous.jsonlz4" in there, something I could do with that one?

Or something else?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello at Mozilla Support,

I'm having this issue where sometimes, when I double-click to download a link or open a downloads item, it opens the same bookmark page instead. This is the page, and not sure if it's alphabetical, since this pages starts with an 'a' "https://authorspublish.com/#optin" Wondering how I can get this to stop changing the page I am on and opening the bookmark.

Thanks, Sonya

"Container Tabs" are unavailable in Firefox on my employer's corporate PC. The "Enable Container Tabs" option is missing in the Tab section in Settings. There is a notification "Your browser is being managed by your organization." Thus, the lack of container tabs may be due to corporate policy. However, I don't see anything on the Active Policies page except one irrelevant record: "InstallAddonsPermission Default false." Additionally, "Container Tabs" are unavailable only in Firefox. Nightly has them. But, Nightly is not officially supported by my company. I have tested several corporate PC and different versions of Firefox and Nightly. Is it a weird Firefox bug or something else?

Also please tell me how to get my tabs back! I tried to follow instructions for this but actually didn't have the things they said to click on. Thanks so much for your help!!

The pinned shortcuts on my newtab page have all disappeared once again. I've gone to about:config > browser.newtabpage.pinned and my shortcuts are all listed. But only blank boxes show up on the page. It will not accept a new entry when I try to enter one. It goes back to the blank white box. Why does this keep happening? Can anyone give me a Firefox for Dummies way to fix this?? Thanks!

I need pinned tabs to show their title, just like normal tabs. They currently only show an icon, but apart from the fact that in my case the icons are identical to one another so I can't know which one is which without hovering them, I'm more of a text person anyway.

So, how to make pinned tabs show their title?

I need to shrink the size of my tabs, which remains constant no matter how many are open. If I have four open, I get the "+" for a new tab at the end of the tab bar. If there are five open, the tabs consume the entire width of the browser window and the "+" sign disappears. It is not found in the "customize toolbar" menu. I have tried restoring tool bar defaults and changing the uidensity to 1, but neither change shrinks the size of the tabs or gives me the "+" option.

What do I need to do to get back to the way it used to work?

In my location, my only option for internet access is a mobile hotspot with limited data. Consequently, I am always mindful of my data usage when using my laptop. Despite primarily browsing static pages, email, and other low-data activities, I often find my data usage higher than anticipated. The main culprit comes to mind to be videos embedded in news articles. Sometimes, with multiple tabs open, I switch to an inactive tab only to find a video playing. Although I've configured my Firefox preferences not to autoplay videos, it seems that YouTube videos still override these settings.

So, my question is, when a tab is inactive, does Firefox stop all data transfer for that tab in the background? And if not, what are the solutions to stop any background data other than continually closing all tabs?

Also, any suggestions on this topic are appreciated, especially from and to users who also live in remote areas without fiber, DSL, etc.

Since one of the last updates the behaviour for the tab re-sizing got messed up.

When there are only a few tabs with full size, those as well as the additional plus icon is shown. But when there are more tabs and they are re-sized, then the right side gets cut off. First the new tab icon dissapears and then also the last tab get's cut off.

I attached a screenshot with three firefox browser windows showing the problem, as well as a forth one with only 3 tabs open, which are shown in full size including the new tab icon.

This is a new problem as the tab resizinng and the new tab icon used to work perfectly fine no matter how many tabs were opened.
