I am a Linux user and any time I do a search I end up having to type " -windows " to remove content that is not relevant to me. Parents could use such a feature to customize a list of terms to exclude from searches so their kids are not "accidentally" exposed to adult material.

I would like to have a region search button available right under the search bar, basically like google chrome - you can just select tools then country and "my country" or "South Africa" or whatever region you are in.

Right now you need to click tools - advanced search - (then you cant even type the first letters of your country, you have to scroll down through hundreds of countries) then select advanced search. Takes me roughly 20sec per search when it could take me 2 clicks. This seems ridiculous when it could be - Tools - Country - click (like chrome)

I get redirected to centurylink page instead of google search results when I put a search word in the url bar. I put in the word smiths. Some words will work by having google search for the word and gives me results. The following link is what comes up. I've tried all option on this site with no luck. I have Firefox 43.0.4 windows 10

Also, "disable this service" doesn't work. Nothing in the uninstall program list. I also tried to reinstall firefox.

http://webhelper.centurylink.com/index.php?origURL=http%3A//smiths/&r=&bc=

Also, how to I get rid of "do you mean to go to...,yes take me there no thanks"?

Before ver 52 Firefox (and now in Win10), there was some obvious way of doing it in Options (I think "custom" on the drop-down list). Now selecting from list of default searchers in Options gives only search names, not what their URLs are or what options they may include, and no "custom" to add your own. I need to include a parameter in a Google search that includes verbatim, and the paramater has been the same for many years, I only have recently found no way to include it, although it does work fine for home page, new tab, and other places where a search engine is called up. The address bar is the only place I see no way of entering it. I have searched "about:config" for every instance of googlea and inserted the URL with the verbatim paramer, and still no success. It is everywhere correct, except for searches from the address bar. The URL Firefox puts on the address bar appears to now be inalterable for any given searcher choice. Although not relevant to the problem, the exact URL I prefer is (which most serious searchers love once they use it):

  https://www.google.com/? newwindow=0&pws=0&num=100&safe=off&tbs=li%3A1

The most critical parameter for "verbatim" is &tbs=li%3A1 plenty weird, but works. Much appreciation and "golden buzzer" for solution. BillBailer

In Firefox 38.7.1, I know I can remove one-click search engines in:

chrome://browser/content/search/engineManager.xul

- except for the last one. How do I remove the last search engine? I could go to great length explaining why I don't want my browser to automatically perform searches in any circumstances, but suffice it to say that unwanted, automatic functionality will by definition hamper the way a person works. I am sure it is possible to disable this, or better, completely remove it, but how?

I'm trying to use "Search Bar" and "Address Bar" to search in Google (my default search engine). But after the recent update, I'm facing a problem that searching something by means of "Search Bar" and "Address Bar" is not working and ends up with "Server not found" error message sometimes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it fails. But typing something directly in Google.co.in is always giving the results. Please fix this issue, I have verified the same in other machine's Firefox also.

...so that I don't search for something on Youtube or Maps when I meant default Google. It's reset on new windows, but not the current one when opening a new tab. It could be reset right after the search so that it would always be default even when used in already opened tab. The current search engine does not change if the other-than-google button at the bottom is pressed with mouse pointer, but that is just slow and I'm used to do it with keyboard (ctrl/cmd+up/down). Turning OneOffButtons off doesn't help.

I set Google as the default, remove every other search engine from the search options page including the generic search with magnifying glass sign, and every time I open Firefox, everything is back as it was before the changes. This is extremely frustrating! I have tried the answers here as well as any answers I could understand in a search, and nothing works. Supposedly this was a problem with version 34 and fixed after that, but I am using 38.0.5! Solving this should not be as difficult as it is!

I am running Vista Ultimate (32 bit).

My computer indicate that only Google and McAfee Secure are search options. But when I type an address into the website space, a green plus sign appears in the search bar and then the search engine being used is Yahoo,, not Google. I have used a website to remove the Yahoo search engine, and I cannot find any evidence of Yahoo on the computer (but I'm not very computer literate). Help!!!

Firefox updated this morning for me, and now my search bar doesn't work (all search engines were cleared) and I can't find Google as an available search engine to add back. Further, when I do get search results from whatever engine I use, when I right click and say open in a new tab, nothing happens. Really scratching my head on this one since I've never had issues like this before.

I was using Firefox 38, and then upgraded to v41.0. After the upgrade, the search window no longer worked. I was able to click the magnifying glass to select the Search Tool, and I'm able to type in the window, but hitting "Enter" or the arrow does nothing.

I tried to downgrade back to v38, but this time, while I was able to do a search, I only had one Search Engine (I think it was Yahoo) and was unable to add more.

After reading that all of the Search Tools were installed by default, I reinstalled v41.0, it it seemed to work fine with all the Search Engines available, until the next way when it stopped working again.

Then yesterday I searched these forums, and found someone who had the same problem. They were told to Uninstall Firefox, reboot, then re-install, which I did. Again, it worked fine yesterday until I rebooted this morning, and it failed again.

I'm running Windows 7. This is very aggravating! Thanks for any help.
