I get redirected to centurylink page instead of google search results when I put a search word in the url bar. I put in the word smiths. Some words will work by having google search for the word and gives me results. The following link is what comes up. I've tried all option on this site with no luck. I have Firefox 43.0.4 windows 10

Also, "disable this service" doesn't work. Nothing in the uninstall program list. I also tried to reinstall firefox.

http://webhelper.centurylink.com/index.php?origURL=http%3A//smiths/&r=&bc=

Also, how to I get rid of "do you mean to go to...,yes take me there no thanks"?

Firefox updated this morning for me, and now my search bar doesn't work (all search engines were cleared) and I can't find Google as an available search engine to add back. Further, when I do get search results from whatever engine I use, when I right click and say open in a new tab, nothing happens. Really scratching my head on this one since I've never had issues like this before.

My computer indicate that only Google and McAfee Secure are search options. But when I type an address into the website space, a green plus sign appears in the search bar and then the search engine being used is Yahoo,, not Google. I have used a website to remove the Yahoo search engine, and I cannot find any evidence of Yahoo on the computer (but I'm not very computer literate). Help!!!

I search 6 online catalogs most days and would like to create a multi-site search / onesearch, if that is possible in Firefox 38. Currently, I do this by opening 6 tabs, and enter the book title into each of the sites search box.

Is it possible to create a custom multi-search?

I have been hunting in the add-ons, but all that I have found require the site to be a "Search Engine". None of the 6 sites are "search engines" e.g. Amazon Kindle USA, or the digital library catalog (overdrive.com)

From an add-on perspective -- I did find alertbox/Distill.io and this is great for 1 title 1 site, you can add the search in your browser account. But I have 1 title, looking in 6 sites.

In google searching there looks to be an add-on for Safari but I could not find any equivalent add-on for Firefox.

I then thought, other people must have this need. How do they automate this task I wondered.

Thankyou for any ideas. Regards

I hate hate hate the "awesome bar." I want to use it for searches with my default search engine and NOT with whatever search engine I happened to use last.

There used to be an extension for this but I believe it was obsoleted with some previous Firefox "upgrade."

Instead of having to change my search engine every time I want to search, is there a key combo to change the current search engine back to the default - i.e., to reactivate the default search engine?

I saw the keyboard shortcuts document (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly). It does not do what I want, I do not want to scroll through my list of installed search engines, I just want to jump to the default.

I don't even know why they call it the default anymore.

...so that I don't search for something on Youtube or Maps when I meant default Google. It's reset on new windows, but not the current one when opening a new tab. It could be reset right after the search so that it would always be default even when used in already opened tab. The current search engine does not change if the other-than-google button at the bottom is pressed with mouse pointer, but that is just slow and I'm used to do it with keyboard (ctrl/cmd+up/down). Turning OneOffButtons off doesn't help.

In Firefox 38.7.1, I know I can remove one-click search engines in:

chrome://browser/content/search/engineManager.xul

- except for the last one. How do I remove the last search engine? I could go to great length explaining why I don't want my browser to automatically perform searches in any circumstances, but suffice it to say that unwanted, automatic functionality will by definition hamper the way a person works. I am sure it is possible to disable this, or better, completely remove it, but how?

I would like to have a region search button available right under the search bar, basically like google chrome - you can just select tools then country and "my country" or "South Africa" or whatever region you are in.

Right now you need to click tools - advanced search - (then you cant even type the first letters of your country, you have to scroll down through hundreds of countries) then select advanced search. Takes me roughly 20sec per search when it could take me 2 clicks. This seems ridiculous when it could be - Tools - Country - click (like chrome)

i'm a long time firefox user but always on a windows platform. i can currently highlight and drag and drop browser text in windows FF 37.0.2 to the FF search bar an it will *automatically* search for it when i drop (let up on the mouse). i do NOT have then hit enter.

however, i've recently bought a mac and on FF 37.0.2 *mac* version, dragging and dropping browser text to the search box ALWAYS FORCES ME TO HIT ENTER TO DO THE SEARCH.. IT'S NOT AUTOMATIC AND I DON'T SEE ANYWHERE TO CONFIGURE IT???? starting FF in safe mode doesn't fix the issue.

any thoughts on how to fix this? it's really annoying as it slows down my normal work flow since i search a lot. as stated above the problem seems to be specific to FF mac as the same version FF windows works like it always has for me.

thanks

I want Firefox to only use google as the search engine for the top right search dialog. However, whenever I delete all the other search engines using search engine preferences, after a few days it invariably adds youtube search on its own, and eventually others (such as wikipedia).

I do not technically mind having the other search engine button in the popup, but what I really want to get rid of is firefox sometimes randomly sending me to the search preferences page when i type something in the search dialog and hit enter (which seems to coincide with having multiple search engines set). Sometimes it even simply randomly uses youtube search when I want to google.
