How do I disable Firefox background updates in a Ubuntu-based linux distro

Does Firefox run its own updating service outside of the system updates? I like to be in control of when my computer updates, so I have turned off all automatic updates, and about once per week, I just run 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade' and it takes care of it. I usually do that either first thing in the morning, or when I have a few minutes before going home, so that updates don't interrupt my workflow during the day.

Firefox seems to update itself outside of my package management software. It is incredibly frustrating to open a new tab or window and get that annoying freaking page that says it applied an update in the background and just needs to restart. Not only does it interrupt what I'm doing (especially if I'm listening to something in another tab and have to close it and find it again), but it NEVER restarts automatically, and when I restart it manually, it does a piss poor job of resuming where I was.

I've gone to about:config and changed app.update.auto to false, but that doesn't seem to change anything.

Please help, if you can. I don't want to go to a chromium-based browser!

On my dev system (windows), I have an apache server and a number of sites defined.

They are listed in the hosts file and also configured in httpd-vhosts.conf.

I have had to stay with an old version of Firefox for the last few years, as more recent versions refused to connect to the localhost sites. I have been "forced" to upgrade and am nolonger able to connect to the local sites. I precise that doing a ping to the site address will return the 127.0.0.1 address.

What do I have to do to get this important functionality working again, please ?

Hi, I have been a long time Firefox user and love it like hell, the only thing that forces me out of FF is this, Whenever I am working on Google Docs it can't copy paste with right click. I know I can use CTRL + C and CTRL + V but this is not always possible for me. I have read somewhere its because of FF security reasons or something but please let us have an option to enable this, at least on the sites that we trust. I would really appreciate if anyone can help. I tried About:Config tricks and they don't work. Please help.

I have the about:config autoplay set to "1" as you are supposed to, but when Firefox updated the other day autoplay has been enabled again. I have downloaded an add-on to try and block them, but I want to know why we can't block them ourselves, or why setting the about:config autoplay to "1" no longer works.

Look to the attached picture and see the diagonal parted symbols. So how can I setup firefox to show the icons in a usual way?

Thanks for your help. FHirrle

FHirrle

I went to some website that asked me to run Adobe Flash Player and now ever since I did the videos on youtube wont start playing until I click on them to. I want to set them so they start playing on their own again.

I tried turning on autoplay on youtube, but that didn't help. I tried going to the add-ons and changing to Always Activate, but that didn't work. I even tried Never Activate. I then looked at the Adobe Flash Player settings within the Control Panel, but nothing there helped.

I'm now considering uninstalling the program, but I'm confused, is it Adobe Flash Player that I need to uninstall or Adobe Shockwave Player? And, will this make it so videos don't play at all?

I just downloaded and installed Firefox because I'm not thrilled with chrome. One major thing I'm trying to solve is getting the warnings for not secure (http) sites. I spend all day logging into network devices and I'm so sick of all the warning. I know the sites (IP addresses) I go to don't have security certificates and i don't wanna hear about it. I just wanna go straight to the site.  :) Is there a way to get rid of these warnings? I've tried about:config security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled and changing it to false. That didn't work.

Dear Mozilla I have encountered the "SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER" error when trying to access google.com Unfortunately, Mozilla Support sites only explain the origin of the problem. No solution to solving the issue is given. I can't even proceed to the website accepting the risk. I have found other pages with suggested solutions but none worked. I tried deleting the Cert9.db file which didn't work. Other solution are for antivirus on windows which doesn't help since I run Ubuntu with no antivirus. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thx in advance
