unable to turn off safe search when using Bing search. After clicking the more bars on the Bing search page and setting safe search to off, when checking if it is off, it has reverted to moderate. Firefox is vs 96.0.1. Setting is set to normal, not strict. Windows 10 preferences are set to safe search off. All caches have been cleared. I took off all extensions, ran malware bytes & cccleaner & anti-virus scan. I tried a refresh of Firefox. Nothing has helped.

Using Edge or Chrome browsers on the Bing search page, Safe search turns off as it should.

--There was a power failure, last night, which knocked off my computer. That may or may not be related. However, with both Edge and Chrome accessing Bing okay, it seems to definitely be a Firefox problem?

I've been trying to configure my laptop to suit my needs, which differs from those on desktop. Basically, I trust both devices due to full-disk encryption, but it's possible to steal my laptop while powered on and unlocked. Hence my laptop approach is strict while adding a few exceptions that rely on successful authentication without remembering passwords.

I find it quite hard to manage exceptions. I've spend a couple of hours reading through this forum as well as numerous FAQs and guides, yet it appears there are a lot of conflicting options that override certain settings. The entire process is pretty counterintuitive and could use an overhaul from a UX perspective, where a simplification of the process might also result in the resources becoming more useful.

Anyway, one of my issues is that it appears I can't use asterisk * when defining URL exceptions for cookie settings. Second, unless explicitly defined, the protocol defaults to http and not https. I guess I should ask what happens before complaining too much. Example time:

1: I add the URL 'example.com' 2: Firefox converts it to 'http://example.com' 3: I add the URL 'https://example.com'

How will each of these exceptions work for the following: https://www.example.com https://this.example.com

And how can I mitigate this without a regex or similar, short of manually adding an extensive list of possible variations in between https:// and .example.com? To clarify, I'll need an exception for something like https://*.example.com

Finally, how is this affected by individual settings in the sections Enhanced Tracking Protection, Cookies and Site Data, and History? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?

Hello,

Recently an adult site I go to, which features videos, isn't working: I can get to site, but nothing shows up on the screen. I've always had 'strict' privacy and adblocking protections, but something seems to have changed. This started happening maybe three weeks ago?

I did follow Mozilla instructions, and clicked on the 'shield' next to the address, changed 'enhance tracking' to off for this site. But that didn't solve the problem. What would be the next thing to try?

Thanks in advance!

I'm having problems opening saved (archived) Facebook pages. The problem is the page opens without formatting or layout, just text and images.

I've had this problem before when I was using Firefox 68. The solution was to roll back a security patch by doing the following as proposed by jscher2000:

You can roll back the patch as follows if you want to see what difference it makes:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste uniq and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the privacy.file_unique_origin preference to switch the value from true to false

That had worked until recently. I checked "privacy.file_unique_origin" and its still has a value of 'false' but the webpages are not opening properly, even ones I saved over the last few years.

What can I do?

Thank you for your reply. This is the error message I get when trying to access my own website through Firefox. I have no problems accessing my own website through Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge?

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at www.qrm-assocites.com.

If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:

  Try again later.
  Check your network connection.
If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.

There must be setting on my laptop or in Firefox that I may have to change? I already tried clearing my browser cache and data as well as my ip address.

Do you have any other suggestions what may be going on with my Firefox browser and allowing me to access my website: www.qrm-associates.com.

Thank you

I now have trouble logging into jungledisk.com after most recent "improvement" to Firefox. Never ran into this annoyment until new FF rolled out. My current work around, go to Edge. No problems getting to jungledisk there.

I get the following when I try,

"Cookies required to use Firefox

To continue signing in using Firefox, allow cookies to be stored on this device. You might see this screen more than once."

Below is the dialog box to log on asking for user name and password finally "Sign In". This "Sign In" is greyed out. Can log on the jungledisk not no way, not no how.

By fixing the very first option you come across as soon as you go into General Under "Startup" The setting called "Restore previous Session"

Usually, a checkbox, is a boolean ON OFF.

Once more, this leaks data. For instance, logging into my webmail rebooting the machine, next time i launch firefox it spawns the same session again. This contradicts with the very first option under "General" -> Startup

If this was a public machine, some one would now have access to my email.

It seems that this is OS specific. But really, i don't care. My complaint stays the same. The option is broken, and firefox leaks data therefor. I no longer trust Firefox. This sort of stuff is not done deliberately.

Once more. perhaps bit logic is too complicated for you UI designers and a quantum gyro is more to your liking? Cause this is NOT normal.
