I am trying to edit /etc/hosts file. CLI utils respect the values that provided there, Chrome also.

But the Firefox continues to ignore. I have disabled "Enable DNS over HTTPS using:" and turned it off.

But it doesn't help. What else could be done?

Do you (as a Mac user) experience the same or similar:

44 instances of FirefoxCP Isolated Web Content ranging from 60MB-918MB each, with 18 of them above 200MB and 5 of them above 400MB. I have 15 tabs open and in practical terms almost nothing else open on the computer (a brand new M3 silicon iMac). It has 8 GB of memory. I had similar experiences in the past, but never as bad as now. I do not know everybody else can live with this.

Is this how Firefox is designed to operate or is this a bug?

Thanks.

I'm a new user to Firefox on my Mac. I don't see a Share button that would allow me to email the current web site to a friend. Looking for help on the web, I see:

To access the feature, simply click on the Share button on the toolbar. The Share button looks like a paper airplane and is located to the right of the address bar.

but I just don't see any button or icon that looks like that.

I went into View > Toolbars > Customize Toolbars and didn't see a way to add a Share button. I clicked 'Restore to Defaults' and that didn't help.

I know I can choose File > Share from the menu but I'd rather have a toolbar item.

Here's a snapshot of my toolbar and address bar.

Thanks for any help.

I frequently open new tabs by right-clicking the current tab and choosing "New Tab" from the context menu. Naturally, I want to start typing a URL or search term.

But the focus/cursor/caret is nowhere and typing does nothing. I have to click on the address bar, and then I can type.

I'm not using New Tab Override and I have Firefox's new tab set to a blank page.

I tried disabling all my add-ons, but I still had the problem.

I tried setting new tab to the Firefox home page and for a short while I got a cursor in the address bar. But the problem returned after a few hours

Any clues on what might be wrong? Firefox version 120.0.1 (64-bit) on MacOS Ventura 13.5.1. Thanks!

(A similar problem is described here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1420220 -- but in my case this is not a container tab.)

Google search no longer works on Firefox. Other browsers have no problems. Changing the default search engine on Firefox works (eg Bing), BUT. It can now find Google Maps, but Google Maps cannot find a location, because it uses a Google search. I tried the fix in about:config, but it had no effect.

About a week ago I started getting these update error messages stating "Update available - Firefox couldn't update automatically. Download the new version". I've also tried clicking "Learn more" on the error message but it's a dead link. Going into the settings for updates I am set to auto update, but when I manually check for updates it says "Failed to check for updates".

The help article on this issue simply tells you to download and manually reinstall Firefox, but I'm having to do this nearly every day. I work in IT myself so I know a "bandaid" workaround when I see one. Is there a solution to this issue?

I just downloaded the new Firefox and replaced the old application. All my bookmarks are gone. When I go to Manage and Restore, it tells me to choose a file but I don't seem to have the file on my computer. Under library>application support there is no Firefox folder. There is a Mozilla folder, but the only thing in it is the "extensions" folder with one file. I have a backup of my full computer on a hard drive from before the download, but I can't seem to find a file there either. I don't think I ever specifically asked my computer to save the Bookmarks. Does it auto save in the application? Is there a way to restore the prior version of Firefox on my computer?

Dark Reader works for all sites except for mozilla.org, I think these webpages are over-ridden by the Firefox browser? I saw a couple archived posts recommending global changes for all sites via Firefox -> Settings -> Language and Appearance -> Colors, or to install themes. Neither option would work. I don't want to override all sites to dark globally, that's way to much change, just let Dark Reader change just mozilla.org.

Hello,

I have a platform where architects can download digital content in the file formats of dwg (autocad) and ai (adobe illustrator). The site is old and has been working for many years.

Today I received an email from a user that had issues downloading the ai files. I went on to the site an investigated. I am also unable to download the ai files. The dwgs are working as expected.

The ai files are converted to pdf and open in the browser in some web preview. If I then download the file from there it is still, when downloaded to my machine, a pdf. This is not the behavior from before. This is a change in Firefox.

How, when, and why is this change implemented? It seems like a pretty radical change, to coerce one file format to another without any option to get the source file for the user.

Any help is appreciated.

Today I installed a new extension (Bitwarden) and want to add the icon to the toolbar. I can't find it anywhere. The add-on shows up in the add-on manager but there's nothing there to help me add the icon. The little puzzle piece in the upper right of the browser -- click on that and Bitwarden isn't listed.

How do I fix this? In Chrome there's a simple toggle switch in the extension manager to add the icon to the toolbar. Frankly, if I can't get this Bitwarden icon to display I can't use Firefox at all. Thanks.
