Sign In on Stackexchange Affiliated Websites After First Sign In

After I sign in on a Stackexchange affiliated website on Google chrome, I can then visit any other Stackexchange affiliated websites and I do not need to manually sign in. Google Chrome recognizes that I'm signed in on an SE affiliate and therefore, I'm presented a prompt that asks if I want to either: cancel the automatic sign in or join the community if I've never signed in before.

How can I do this on Firefox? Also, I would like to know how to do this because it creates a complicated situation when I need to suggest to a newer user that they should ask their question on a different affiliate. I mean, it seems kind of sketchy to tell someone to "create a new account but make sure to use the same username and password". Like, that's how password stealing scams work.

But with Google Chrome, it recognizes that SE sites are affiliated and so the username and password (or the cookie for the logged in session or whatever it is) is automatically and securely submitted to the other SE site without user input. There's less confusion and an extra layer of automatic verification that the user doesn't have to worry about. This follows the basic security practice of never submitting credentials after you're already signed in on Facebook or any other social media site — if you are already signed in to your account and you are requested to "sign in to facebook to continue" for example on another site or when opening a link, it should automatically sign you in when you refresh the page. If not, then it's likely a spoofed sign in dialog or cloned web page trying to steal your password.

At the very least, it should autofill if it is a legit sign in dialog. But Firefox does not do this on SE affiliated websites and we basically have to create individual accounts, with the same username and password, on each SE website. I literally have to click to create a new account or sign in, go through my settings, copy my saved password from another SE site and submit that with my email.

Lastly, this also applies to SE affiliates that don't have "stackexchange" in the URL such as Superuser and AskUbuntu. I can sign in on AskUbuntu and then when I go to Math Stackexchange or Superuser, I'm automatically signed in.

In the screenshots, you can see how there is the option to "join this community" when using Google Chrome. This option doesn't exist when using Firefox. After joining, there's an additional confirmation prompt that explains about automatic sign in, which also does not happen on Firefox.

I'm trying to create a Drag & Drop file feature in my web page following this doc https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/HTML_Drag_and_Drop_API/File_drag_and_drop

The dropHandler function works as expected the first time I tried to drop a file into a "drop area" div, but then does not work anymore. In all subsequent calls, the drop event is triggered but there is no file in

`` event.dataTransfer.items // empty event.dataTransfer.files // empty ```

This behavior is the same in Troubleshoot Mode.

I fill out a specific online form on a regular basis. When I used Chrome several months ago it always remembered my form data. But no matter what setting I set I cannot get this to work on Firefox.

Under Privacy & Security I've set History to Use custom settings for history: Remember browsing and download history enabled Remember search and form history enabled Clear history when Firefox closes disabled

I have also checked antivirus, antispyware, firewall, and privacy programs are not interfering. I do have a VPN but only use this when using online banking.

Firefox runs fine most of the time. If I right-click to download an image, or click a link to download a PDF or other file, or Save HTML, I see the "Save file" dialog, click Save and then Firefox freezes up for a while, maybe a minute or two. Pages won't scroll. I can't switch tabs. I can bring up a different firefox window and it redraws its contents, but I can't scroll or do anything else.

This didn't happen a month ago, then one day after a system upgrade, it happens every time. I'm using FF 123.0.1 on Arch Linux. 64GB RAM, so it's not a memory shortage. I have upgraded one or two times more since the upgrade when this appeared. Chromium is not affected, Thunderbird is fine, and all other software continues to be fine as before, including when saving files. Only FF has this problem.

What is the problem and solution? Are there ways to gather more info to diagnose the problem, if needed?

I've been using Chrome for a long time, and I've been slowly switching over all my bookmarks, passwords, etc to Firefox. I'm running Linux mint for context.

Every time I open Firefox, it opens the home tab, and after a second or two it opens Mozilla Rally in a new tab, and it drives me ABSOLUTELY BONKERS, because I get halfway through typing in a website, and I'm redirected to this new tab I care nothing about, and for some reason cannot get rid of it in the minimal startup settings that actually exist.

That's some straight up Microsoft Internet Explorer sh!t there, and yes that was meant as an insult.

I have not been able to find any reference or any way to make that not happen, and it is seriously making me consider abandoning Firefox entirely. Don't make me go back to Chrome.

Please help.

I'm running firefox 124.0.2 on Linux Mint and am having the most bizarre issue. I've got a logitech M560 mouse, and when I press the mouse button for Forward it functions normally. However when I press the mouse button for Back, Firefox ignores it.

I've already confirmed that the OS is registering the button click as 'Back' using Input-Remapper, and the extra mouse buttons are enabled in the Firefox configuration. I've also used the mouse on another PC with no issues so this one is kind of boggling the mind.

Hello everyone. Well, I've been using Firefox for a few months, maybe a semester now, I don't remember. But the point is that since yesterday I have been facing a serious problem of not being able to download any type of file (MP4, PDF, .JSON, ISO, etc.). I've already used the troubleshooting mode and I've also restarted my laptop, but it didn't help. I've also gone to the advanced settings (see 'about:config > browser.download') and reset/deleted the data for each command but the problem still persists.

What happens is the following: I click to download the file in question, however, nothing happens other than the page loading that commonly occurs when downloading something. Still, the file does not appear in the downloads tab and there is not even the option to choose where to save the file (e.g. Downloads folder, Documents folder). The download simply appears to have failed.

Exactly, it 'appears', because today I discovered that all my downloads were being directed without my permission/action to the 'downloads' folder (And that's not where I want them to go). The problem would be smaller if only this happened, as I would then just get the files downloaded there and then change to the desired folder, thus trying to move forward despite the problem. But the downloaded files themselves are not operational, they have the icon when a file is still downloading, in addition to not having a name, everything being just a cluster of codes.

In the end, there are files, large and small, that have no use and that I don't even have control over where to direct them. Which is still a huge problem because I still technically can't download anything from the browser. Please, I really need your help on how to resolve this problem.

Note: Also, when I close and open the browser, the first download I try appears in the downloads tab, but it fails instantly and cannot be resumed, making it an eternal failure.

I just updated Firefox. That's supposed to improve things, right?

Now the address bar is gray most of the time. It looks normal when I'm entering a search, or editing a URL, the rest of the time, it's just ugly now. I don't like things to be changed arbitrarily like that. What is the rationale for changing the way that looks? How can I change it back? Please give me a setting, or about:config preference, and please don't get direct file editing involved, okay?

Why doesn't tiling the windows work as well as it used to? Yesterday, I could hit super+left, or super+right, from a maximized window, and it'd tile to the left or right side of the screen perfectly, the first time, every time, no problems. Now it has an intermediate stage where there's a gap all the way around the window. It seems to improve by clicking on a different window, then back into the Firefox window, but that intermediate step just shouldn't happen! What's a fix for this?

I also hit the button at the bottom to include optional troubleshooting information, but it said instead, "We can't automatically get your browser's troubleshooting data, please try these manual steps." No, I'm not doing that, get that thing working right, too!

With increasing frustration, I'm am trying top retain certain cookies when deleting other cookies and history. Instructions I read say use "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox closes" with exceptions noted, and do not toggle "clear history when Firefox closes." Except that in my Firefox settings, they work in tandem - the choices are both on or both off. I can't turn one on and the other off. Under manage exceptions, I am entering the entire website address with the https. Any suggestions? Thanks. Joe Markarian

Hello, this is a problem I've been dealing with for nearly 2 months now. Currently using Linux Mint Cinnamon

The browser won't connect to any websites or even try to load them, anytime I search for something it immediately goes to the error page. I've been struggling with internet on my PC for months and all was fixed when I hooked up ethernet, except for Firefox.

I've gone into about:config countless times. I've restarted it twice, I've tried installing the flatpak version and it's exactly the same result. I've deleted it and reinstalled, nothing. I've unchecked everything I've changed in about:config, once again nothing.

I can't update it as for some reason it says it's disabled by system administrator, which I don't remember enabling. I checked the firewall and it's perfectly fine. No infections were found when I scanned as well.

It's starting to become frustrating and I can't even do anything on my PC because it's acting up. Any and all help is more than appreciated and welcome. Thank you.

I was using Lightspeed today, and the website pops up a confirmation dialog box (probably through JavaScript) so that you can confirm that you want to do a specific action. I got annoyed with the dialog and clicked the included "Don't allow this website to show prompts anymore" box when I hit OK. But now it won't perform any action that requires you to hit the OK in the prompt, so I need to make the dialogs come back so I can do my job. I can't find any setting anywhere in the browser that I have actually disabled or changed by hitting the box in that prompt.

Hi I have been using firefox on linux for a while without updating it. We are artsellers and I used to be able to log in and out of an artplatform without any problems. It's now been a few weeks since logging out is not possible any more on this platform which means that I am constantly logged in which I really do not want. The menu does not work anymore on this side whereas it works with other browers. I already contacted the platform. They cannot do anything about it themselves and asked me to contact your team. Please help. Thank you Best regards from Germany C. Marsac
