Whenever I visit any website to play music or watch videos no sound is provided. I can visit the same sites using Chrome and the all play sound. I can play music that resides on my PC without any issues. I have re-installed Firefox but to no avail - still no sound. My sound settings are not muted either in Windows, when on the various sites and within Firefox itself. I have Autoplay permissions set to allow video and audio. I am using 79.0 (64 bit) What is the problem and how do I resolve it?

In the last few days, a process called MainThread, using a lot of CPU time, has started appearing in my Ubuntu system monitor "top". I was worried that it was malware, and checked to see if it might be part of software I had recently installed. After checking with the software providers I had most recently dealt with, I didn't find any that said the MainThread process belonged to them. Then I noticed that the "firefox" process had disappeared from the system monitor. I suspect that MainThread is the new name for firefox, but I would like some confirmation of that theory. If that is the case, why change the name of the process from something recognizable to something unrecognizable? Thanks for any help you can give!

Recently switched over from Chrome and I'm liking it so far with one semi-major annoyance.

If I'm watching a YouTube (or any site) video in full screen mode, I don't see any of my Mac notifications until I exit full screen. With Chrome, those notifications continue to appear while I'm in full screen.

Is there any setting in Firefox I can enable or disable to change that behavior?

I upgraded to Catalina (Mac OS 10.15.6) from High Sierra and now Firefox 79.0 won't open most web pages--it just displays a blank window and a little dot dancing left & right in the tab. A few web pages (e.g., support.mozilla.org) work OK. I restarted Firefox in safe mode; rebooted the system; and searched System Preferences/Security & Privacy in vain for a request from Firefox but nothing helps. Suggestions?

Also, Catalina crashes and restarts about twice a day, so far always when I'm out of the room, but I don't know if Firefox has a hand in it.

Hi Firefox Community!

Earlier today, I updated to the latest version of Firefox (79.0). Now, everything I saved in Pocket (my entire list) is gone. Also, when I clicked on "View Pocket List", I was prompted - for the first time ever - to sign in to access it.

I'm very confused, and upset, as I had a number of web pages and articles that were very important to me.

If anyone can help, I would be truly grateful.

Thanks, Lynda

The problem is spotting the start of a logical grouping in many tabs open at once in a window. I arrange them in order when researching something. So, there's 20 tabs open, 4 different categories of the subject topic. There has to be a way besides a sidebar, to signify fast which group starts where. Best case scenario would be marking the 1st tab of a group with a flag, or static pop-up - a short, 15 character-limit description to signify which group it is (like '4k', '1080p', '720p', for video resolution values). 2nd-best would be a mouse-hover message, i.e. a flag or balloon to pop-up with the 15-character description. Finally, I could color-code the 1st tab of a group, or even the text .I saw some good extensions that did these - looks like Firefox disabled them with the latest browser upgrade. Are there any cross-browser or Firefox persistent apps or add-ons that will let me mark up individual tabs, with either icons, messages, or background colors?

I am running Firefox Ver. 79.0 (64-bit); Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0; on Ubuntu Bionic 18.04 I use the following javascript code in <head> to open a new window: <script> </script> The body is as follows: <body bgcolor="#F2E8DE" onLoad="nameThisWindow()">

Click <a href="javascript:openHomePage()">Open Homepage</a> to open Homepage.htm in a new Window. </body> This code will not display the menubar in the new window (HomePage). The new window opens, resizes, relocates, has scrollbars, has address bar and has the [Open menu] option to the right of the address bar. The way it should except for the menubar on my desktop. If I right click on [Open Menu] in the new window it shows a check mark before Menu Bar. If I uncheck it, it closes the menubar in the window that opened it (HomePageCaller). If I click on Customize in HomePage, it opens the customize window in a new Tab in HomePageCaller. If I open a link in HomePage with "Open Link in New Tab" it opens the link in HomePageCaller. If I open a link in HomePage with "Open Link in New Window" it opens the new window with a menubar like it should. I have opened about:config to change all nine of the "dom.disable_window_open" options to "false" and restarted the computer. This did not change anything? I have removed all content from the<head> except the <title> in the new window page. I have removed all content from the <body> except a line that says it is the new window. All to no avail. Thank you for any help someone can provide, Rob

I recently did a clean install of Window's on my computer. I have a Firefox account and am signed into sync, but I don't know how to get my add-ons and settings back. When I go to "Manage Your Extensions" I see all of them there, but I don't know how to make it so that their icons are viewable in my Toolbar where I can click and use them. In the Manage Your Extensions area I can't click on them to load the extension. For example: I have Notes by Firefox where I have stored irreplaceable information, but I am unable to access any of the information stored in notes because I am unable to "reinstall" Notes. So in short how do I get the extensions listed in the attached screenshot to show up in the Toolbar(highlighted area in the screenshot)?

Our computer did an automatic Mozilla update a few days and now the hyperlinks within emails in Outlook will not open in Firefox - an error message comes up saying Application not found.

We have repeatedly updated default programs in Outlook, Firefox and Microsoft Control Panel default applications - they keep reverting to Unknown Application upon restart.

We had a problem with pdf's not opening at all after the update as well and similar problem with it reverting after restart, however have fixed that (we think) through Adobe's settings.

Any idea what else we can try re hyperlinks?

Thanks

Specific website crashes PC when using Firefox but not Chrome

Windows 7 Pro 64bit Athlon Phonom II X555 12GB DDR2 Asus M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 motherboard with integrated graphics Firefox 79.0 64bit (updated from a previous version but I did not make note of the previous version number)

Whenever I go to the login page at this site: https://community.ui.com/ using Firefox, my computer blue screens. Sometimes I will see the demo animation in on the right get all garbled and if I close FF quickly, no blue screen. Other times my whole screen just goes blank before I have a chance to do anything and then the blue screen. This does not happen with Chrome or Edge. These are 100% repeatable. ALWAYS with Firefox, NEVER with Chrome or Edge. Blue screen logs show errors related to atikmpag.sys (my graphics driver) and dxgkrnl.sys (DirectX). I checked for a graphics driver update; there was none. So I uninstalled and reinstalled using a fresh download from the motherboard manufacturer's website (using embedded graphics, no discreet GPU in this system). Did not solve the issue. I don't recall what version of Firefox I was using, but I updated to 79.0 and also tried ESR. No change. Ran Mozilla's recommended refresh procedure which removes extensions and resets settings. No change. Booted Windows into Safe Mode and the problem does NOT occur. When I booted back into normal mode, I uninstalled the graphics driver again and tried with default settings -- problem doesn't happen!

While this appears to be an issue with the graphics driver, it only happens in FF, so there seems to be an issue with the two interacting. The latest Firefox crash report listed in about:crashes is from November 2019, long before this issue was discovered. I assume that because the whole computer is crashing with a BSOD, FF doesn't register the crash.

Hello everyone,

I just bought a Macbook Air and want to use Firefox. Pardon my ignorance, I am not tech savvy, for I've a basic question. I started to install Firefox by clicking on the download button but the following message popped up:

"Do you want to allow downloads on 'www.mozilla.org'? You can change which websites can download files in website preferences."

I do not know what is right: to click on "cancel" or "allow" to proceed? I haven't a clue what is the right choice. I am not going to do anything beyond the basic, everyday stuff on my laptop, just want to make the smart choice to begin with, keepin' it simple. Thanks everyone!
