Hello,

Foreword: i already had problem with FF browsing session when i had two windows open and somehow the secondary with not important tabs was closed as the last one and then there was problem to restore the main one.

Question: So in short i have important session open and two browser windows and i want to make a quick backup of the main one or of the both sessions and be able to restore all the opened tabs from this backup easily.

What is the best approach to do it?

Related FAQ: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles#w_backing-up-your-profile But it is about profile, not just opened tabs and it is manual task, not some built in GUI function.

My OS and findings: I am on Linux and i have found this: $ cd ~/.mozilla/firefox/; ls -l $ cd myprofilename/sessionstore-backups;ls -lt recovery.jsonlz4 recovery.baklz4 previous.jsonlz4 upgrade.jsonlz4-202010... ... Do i have to quit FF, then backup the sessionstore-backups and then after i want restore, do the same but only replace the folder? Is there more simple, better way?

This exact same problem as question : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1286412

I was changing my banking password and Firefox offered to generate the password which I clicked on. The password was changed successfully but I was NOT asked if I want to save it or not. It seems the password change was done through an AJAX call which firefox didn't handle.

My question is: How do I get that password back?

Good day!

Apologies for the probably dumb question, but I'm finding myself frustrated that I cannot interpret the image that Firefox displays on the "cannot find this site" error page. I get it is something holding a map, but what is it? Cannot figure out what are those on its head, obviously not eyes as quite strangely placed and not identical.

Appreciating if someone shares a clue

thank you!

Error message: E:\Users\Sarah\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxxx.xxx.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

I do want to mention upfront that this issue is also affecting Chrome and IE. It's not solely a Firefox issue, but I'm hoping someone here can help me anyways.

  • This happens for any filetype, from any source.
  • It started happening about a month ago.
  • Prior to that, I installed a new motherboard, RAM and processor. I'm fairly certain there was a period between these events in which it worked fine, but I am mentioning it just in case it's relevant.
  • If it's a small file and I try repeatedly, it sometimes will eventually download.
  • Even if a large file successfully starts downloading, it will eventually fail. It usually fails immediately though.
  • I sometimes have success downloading the same file in Chrome, but it also often fails. IE as well.

I have tried the following:

  • Used Refresh Firefox
  • Cleared download history
  • Changed download location
  • Reset browser.download values
  • Disabled firewalls and antivirus/spyware
  • Reinstalled Firefox using Run as Admin (first uninstalled previous version and deleted all program files that I could find, including profiles)
  • Cleared cookies and cache
  • Ran in safe mode
  • Verified Temp folder filepath was valid
  • Verified the PART file was created in that path -- it exists until I hit OK on the error message, then it disappears
  • Ran Firefox as admin

I think these are outdated methods I only found on non-official sources, but will mention them just in case:

  • I found some sources that said to delete Compreg.dat; I could not find this file in the place listed, nor could I find it with a search of the entire drive
  • Verified places.sqlite was not set to read-only
  • Removed read-only from entire profile folder and subfolders

In Options > Security: 'Block dangerous & deceptive content': true, 'Block dangerous downloads': false

Internet speed test: 58.96 Mbps download; 148.04 Mbps upload. No connection loss.

This problem is absolutely maddening. I'll be so grateful if anyone can help me out!! :( Thank you in advance, I know this was a long read!

Every time I upgrade to a newer release of Tbird, all my address books are gone such as collected addresses. Obviously those mist be retained somewhere, how to make sure when I perform an upgrade that my personal and collected addresses carry over to the new version?

If you can point me to an article on how to ensure a safe transition of these two address books, I would appreciate it!

Thanks, steve

Hi there,

Every time Firefox updates it crashes the work that I am doing on my websites and I have to restart again. In occassions, it makes my extension to stop working properly, which is more annoying cause Firefox is just a tool and the extensions are the only reason why I stay in Firefox and I do not switch to Chrome.

In the past, you could select when to update, that is I updated when I wanted and I had time and not in the middle of a process or line of daily tasks.

I have Ubuntu, and I select the repositories that I want to update everytime. It is time consuming, but I do not want to risk that Lastpass stop working and I have to look for other ways to findout my passwords.

Is there anyway to disable update in Firefox as it was in the past and made me very happy?

This post https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1199816 opted as solution "There is no reason to use an old version of Firefox"... well, congratulations for not thinking on your clients, that is a terrible response cause to take the power of your users to update whenever they want and take it for yourself.

Anyway, I will switch to Chrome as it does not autoupdate unless I want. Thanks

Thanks,

                Carlos

Ever since evolving past the 70's version, "Print to PDF" from Firefox has had sporadic problems. I have now three times "upgraded" to various 80's series releases and though sometimes Print to PDF works, it more often fails. Once again i have "downgraded" to a 70's release, and i do not experience flaws.

I have posted at least twice of the issue, yet no one is able, or has done anything, about it. Fine. But to keep getting that annoying "New version available" notification is as irritating as malware, especially since "upgrading" will cause the system to malfunction, and the choice to spend time by your programmers to eliminate a safe internal method to disable this is very confusing; why was the decision made to eliminate the option to turn that annoyance off, creating an annoyance when the only time one would turn upgrades off would be when there was a malfunction with a release?

I did find the external registry fix, which, compared to pre early 60's releases having the setting, was a waste of my time to find, but more importantly, added an outside element of a breach of security. I do not understand the reasoning in the development team's thought process.

Using Firefox 78.3.1esr

We are on a closed network. We are trying to create an add-on/extension for Firefox. I am able to successfully create and install the extension using the "Install Add-On from File..." option. Using that same browser session, I can see the extension working as intended.

When I close the browser and restart it, the extension does not appear to be running. It is still listed in the Extensions section of the 'Add-ons Manager'. We have not signed the extension and have set 'xpinstall.signatures.required' to false. Because of the difficulties of getting the extension signed, we would like to proceed without it being signed.

Unsure of what else to try to get it working properly.

Thanks for any help!

I've recently encountered a problem that apparently appeared in the past for other users but not for me. It happens in youtube and not always. Back button plays the same video instead of previous one.

(Most but not all) steps to repro: 1. Open a video on youtube. 2. Play some of it then go to another video on that page. 3. Play a bit then depress browser back button.

Expected outcome: A. Browser displays previous address of video in the address bar. B. Browser displays the page (video) corresponding to previous address.

Actual outcome: A. Browser displays previous address of video in the address bar. B. Browser displays the same page (video), i.e. of current address. C. The "history" stack in the back button is updated as if it had worked.

Until recently, when I use the 'pay bills' part of my banks website, it showed the full list of payees. It no longer displays the list of payees. The second image shows the current display of the payees.

If I open a 'new private window' and then log on to the bank web site and 'pay bills' it shows the full list. The first image shows the list including only the first payee.

Why does the private window work and not the ordinary window????

I have FF 81.0.2 running on a PC I'm replacing. I prefer ESR, since not so many upgrades. Installed 78.4.0ESR on the new PC & tried copying the contents of the 81 profile folder into the ESR profile folder, deleting all the content of the ESR profile folder 1st. When I try opening the ESR install, it tells me "profile contains old content, set up new profile." For the PW's, I tried copying & replacing key4.db, signons.sqlite & logins.json in the ESR profile, still no PW's or logins in the ESR. All I really need in the ESR from the 81 are the bookmarks (thousands) & passwords (about 400). There MUST be some way to do this! Thanks in advance!
