The main use of the PC in my living room is as a media center. My GUI (Plex) runs in the browser and plays videos with VLC via a custom addon. Currently it is also used for browsing from time to time and I need to keep that part of it secure. As Mozilla is about to break all my addons as well as force me onto 64 bit, I've no choice but to stop updating Firefox on that PC.

I found a old post (3 years old) about running two different versions of Firefox at the same time. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/974208

Is it still possible to do this? Does the same methods still work?

I want to freeze my current 32 bit Firefox at v54.0.1 and use it only for local content. (I've already disabled updates on it)

Then I want to then install a second 64 bit Firefox v55, use it for internet, and allow it to update normally.

If this isn't possible I'll just have to switch to a different browser.

I am so frustrated. I just built a new PC running Windows 10 pro 64 bit. I installed Firefox as I do on all my PCs. However, it used to be easy to copy all my bookmarks and my passwords from one PC to another. Now, I have spent 4 hours plus on trying to get the passwords to copy from one of my PCs to my new one. Absolutely no success, but plenty of frustration. After losing my ability to multi-row my bookmark toolbar, I was unhappy but this makes me sick. I have well over 500 passwords to different websites and now I can't copy them from one PC to another. I have tried your technique of old, but it fails every time. It would be nice if someone there actually thought about the users and the ease of doing things within your program. If you check, I am a supporter. I have financially supported your program and would again. Please write something that is CLEAR, CONCISE and EASY to understand that tells your users how to export paswords, bookmarks, etc from one PC to another. All of my PCs updated to your new browser "Firefox Legacy" and now many of my add-ons don't work. Thank you so very much! I added those programs to make things easier to use, however in someone's wisdom, they thought people didn't need them anymore since we were getting LEGACY. I am frustrated, very frustrated and I normally don't bother writing to programming companies because in general, they don't care. I am hoping that Mozilla does, although right now, it appears they changed so much and users suffer. Pale Moon is what you used to be, friendly, easy to use and you can put whatever add-on you wish. However I can't change to Pale Moon because I can't get my passwords out of your newly created mess. Thank you. Ken Bell

PROBLEM: Accessing a site I've always used with ease, and siumilar others, login pages no longer show the Captcha "I'm not a robot." that uses the images "Click on the street signs", or "cars" or... etcetera. Yet, Chrome displays it fine, as does IE.

TESTS: - Tried to access with add-ons at normal. FF has, as always, has Adobe products blocked. FF refuses to let me use it anyway, refuses to let me upgrade it because the FF "Upgrade" link just opena a Moz wall of geekinese attempting to explain that FF is protecting me - but no update. I fought FF and was still able to update Adobe stuff.

- Tried with all addons disabled.

- The "About Mozilla Firefox" screen that cannot be copied and pasted here on barely visible, very light gray font "Firefox is up to date". 52.1.2 (32-bit) Apparently, it is now called Firefox ESR. What ever that means.

I've attached an image showing both versions. The working one by the Stalker - Chrome, and the one that quit by Firefox.

How do I fix Firefox so the Captcha boxes are back?

Hi there Mozilla Support:

The other day I'm been having issues with FF. It's mainly focused on Facebook videos NOT playing at all but just loading and sometimes just blank. The issue is just Facebook videos because if I go to youtube then all videos will still work. I've done countless troubleshooting steps which is why I'm here now:) Anyhow this is what I've done so far:

1)Disabled ALL FF addons as well as individual addons to seclude any incompatibilities but still no videos

2)Restarted FF in safe mode AND REFRESH FIREFOX but still no success

3)I'm assuming that Adobe Flash could be the culprit however I've COMPLETELY UNINSTALLED (PROPER UNINSTALLATION THAT I FOLLOWED ON ADOBE'S WEBSITE) flash and reinstalled Version 17, 21, 23 and the most recent version of FLASH 25.0.0.71 but still no answer

4) Updated my Nvidia Display driver from Nvidia's site but still no answer

5)Downloaded Flash Video player (ADD ON THAT FORCES SITE TO PLAY MEDIA WITH FLASH) from Mozilla add on site, installed, but still no Facebook videos loading

I'm still running XPSP3 but unfortunately based on my work software, XP is only compatible with that software which is why I'm still using the OS. Obviously for browser purposes I've ALWAYS USED FF since I was in high school:) I just love it in terms of speed and functionality however this past week has been a drag with Facebook videos not loading. I DO NOT want to switch to another browser. I still believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel with FF:)

NOTE: I'm not sure if this contributes to the problem however a couple of days before I did a few things:

a)There was the WannaCry ransomware bug (don't worry I wasn't affected by it) and I did get a patch from Microsoft for my XP machine. I installed it and it was successfully installed in my program list. I also tried tampering with the media plugins in FF's about:config. However I thought if I refreshed FF then this should set all media plugins and others to their DEFAULT values.

Hi cor-el:

I went to the prompt you told me to do and kinda found something interesting. Every time I play a FB video and go to Tools> Web Developer > Web Console, it comes up with an error message saying something about .mp4 playback.

This is weird because I recently installed ALL codecs from K-Lite codec pack which I'm assuming includes codecs such as .mp4, .ogg, .webm, etc., Please find an attached pic of the problem and get back to me asap as I've not been able to view ANY videos,

Hi Cor-el:

I also tried the second solution you told me to do (Primetime Content Decryption Module) however the videos still don't play.

Another thing I tried was to update to the LATEST version of FF for WinXP which I believe is the ESR version 52. Still after going to Facebook and logging into my account the videos just go blank with the error shown in the attached pic.

As a temp fix I recently installed Chrome. Apparently Chrome has no issue playing the videos but then again Chrome has all their plugins built on. I never liked Chrome and never will but like I said as a temp fix I'm just using it to view my videos. I WOULD PREFER Firefox and I just don't know what the issue is! Please get back to me when you get the chance

P.S I wasn't sure if the 'replies' function as I haven't from you guys in almost a day so that's why I'm placing the replies inside the original question. Hopefully this helps:)

Anyhow there's also an attachment (jpg) file of the issue I'm having and I hope that you guys can help with the Facebook issue

Regards,

Stan

An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.1.179. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). Error code: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP

Upgraded from FF 45 to FF55.2.3 ESR and lost connection to all our routers, access points and hardware.

On FF45 had warning of insecure connection, but had advanced tab to add exception - then everything worked fine.

On FF55 there is no option to do this. Have cehcked forums etc. and tried all the security.tls etc options but same error message - of interest using the IETab plug in and using that rendering engine it connects after a warning but not in standard firefox.

Profile is the same as previous versions - all our pcs use the same profile and a FF45 still works fine on SAME profile.

These are ALL local IP and never over internet! (The IP is local https://192.168.1.179/start.htm) and they are all Netgear products with no firmware upgrades available.

Please how can I ensure that access to our equipment is continued without reverting to an older version?

Thanks for all the great work over the years, FireFox was truly the best around. It still would be if you hadn't stopped supporting Java, which is probably used on a few billion pages. By dropping Java you've rendered Firefox almost irrelevant and, while not useless, close to it. So I can either start going back and forth between FireFox and Opera now, or save myself all that hassle, as most are going to do, and just get used to Opera and stay there.

But... if you ever make FireFox fully functional again, I'll be back. I hope you do before I get too used to Opera to want to make the switch again.

Ever since Quantum came out, I have looked and looked for a replacement browser; however, Firefox ESR seems to be the best replacement. I just read the ESR lifecycle plan and noticed that 52.9.0 is going to end on 28 August 2018. Does that mean there are not any plans to keep pre-Quantum Firefox around?

I know this is a Mozilla forum, so I'm asking this in no hopes of getting an answer, but, if that's the case, does anybody know of a browser that can be made as secure as Firefox 52.x ESR? Note: I use a specific set of addons to help control what comes through my browser; for example, we have seen many Javascript attacks on systems trying to exploit the Meltdown/Spectre problems. In Quantum, I am wide open as the so-called JS toggle addons do nothing but obfuscate JS rather than switch the flag in about:config.

Thank you in advance.
